It doesn't literally mean for him to take the wheel. It means submit as in be still and listen to direction. Then move in the direction he's instructing us to go. A compass. Your needle may be shaken but his direction is always true.

Ayy Matthew, Im also named Matthew. 19th of July 2024 My brother and I shared another birthday, and with some of our Christian friends. 13th shared birthday, 6 years apart to the day. I believe that all pain and all suffering is a result of sin being in the world. This doesn’t mean that my sin always causes my pain and suffering but that by simply living in a world where there is sin, these things will find me. God uses the pain and suffering of this world for good. “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Have you ever seen a father sacrifice his own son, and send him to hell for the sins of humanity? Tell me again what he won’t do to you. God sends you everything, to mold you into the likeness of his son.

Why did you not say at the end, “And he does not…” then loop it? It is a better message to those who *m-i-g-h-t* misunderstand!

I see where you're coming from, but this is a both/and situation. It's not this simplistic "he inflicts traumatic [blank] to teach you a lesson" like he's some harsh taskmaster. The traumatic event can be that very discipline Scripture describes. And sometimes the traumatic event is not always about discipline. Sometimes we simply don't understand the "why" behind and event until years down the road. And sometimes we will never understand. Job 42:11 explicitly ties the troubles Job went through to God himself, although he merely permitted Satan to do what ue did. If God's hand is not directing the suffering in our lives, this means we suffer randomly and without purpose. But if we recognize that God does direct our suffering, Romans 8:28 takes on a richer meaning. That's not child abuse, for abusers are wicked, warped by sin, harming and maiming our of sadistic spite, or out of some warped ethic of "toughening up" their child. God is, obviously, no such being, and we all take great comfort in that. So, you're right that he doesn't necessarily decree traumatic stuff to "teach us a lesson," although that can happen. Rather, there are many other reasons for why we suffer that which we suffer.
