EDIT - I was correct the first time that soutache is 58" long and S-Lon is 50" long in this kit! What to do when your soutache cords won't all fit through the hole of your front-to-back drilled pendant? This video will provide an alternative. The samples used are from my Raku Rapture kits available at GlitznKitz.com.
Laramie Braid created on a Kumihimo disk
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.3 года назад
This is not a traditional Kumihimo braid. It was originally developed in 2004 by Shirley Berlin and Carol Goodwin from a 16 strand straw-plaiting braid. Shirley kindly gave permission for me to post this video from 2017 and provide credit where due.

Thank you Jamie. Great video explaining how to anchor your s-lon to your braid.
Thanks so much! Really appreciate it, Dorothy.
Really learned alot from this video. Knowing how to fit those cords thru a small hole is a great technique to learn, Thank you, Jamie
Thanks so much for watching, Dorothy! So glad you found it useful. :D
Thanks, Jamie!! Great video!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you found it useful.
Thank you so much for your video. I have a number of pendants that will suit this style. I had never heard of Soutache before . I have ordered some since watching your video, thank you. 😀
You're welcome! I'm glad you found it useful. I sell the Italian Luxury Soutache used here (made of acetate and my favorite) as well as some rayon and some polyester on my website. Soutache is not traditionally used in Kumihimo braiding but adds a lovely texture.
Great video
Thank you so very much. I need a LOT of work on my video skills, I realise that, but I hope you found it useful.
Thank you, Jamie! I've often wondered how to keep the bobbins from unwinding themselves while I am braiding.
So glad you found it useful. It is so annoying if they keep falling off!
Thank you. I was just thinking about creating a braid. I have never done a braid
@@juliekbrooks this isn't traditional Kumihimo - as mentioned it was developed by Shirley Berlin and Carol Goodman and has its origins in straw plaiting, but you use the same tools. It's fun to make. Enjoy! 😊
Thank you!!
Thank you for watching! 😊
Thank you!!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much from a very left handed person. Have ordered from you before and been so happy with everything.
You're welcome! Thank YOU for taking a look. Much appreciated.
What kind of thread is it?
Hi and sorry I missed your question! It is multiple strands per element of S-Lon Tex 210 cord. Thanks for watching!
I am so glad to have found this video. Your instructions are very clear and the result is brilliant! I am inspired!!
Thanks Jamie, instructions are great.

I love this braid, one of my favourites, great instructions, thanks Jamie
Appreciate you taking a look, Claire!
Never thought of using tape, what a great idea, my bead board will love you for that
Learned through trial and error ... and glue all over, things falling off, and such. Such a simple thing and makes a big difference! No need to dread attaching ends again and no tape residue left on your piece.
I like the painters tape trick. Thank you Jamie ♥️
Hope you find it useful. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the taping tip !! I wish that I had found your video a few days ago because I just cracked a tile trying to get it into the opening after resining it!!! May be down a Christmas gift!! Trying to do another quick one now !!!
I will purchase

Love the fact that with 7 strands we can use larger beads, very inspirational thanks Jamie
Are you still around? I have a question.
Fire away!
@@JamieNorth How do I finish beaded bracelet with the loop for the button on the end? I can not remember.
@@tiaheide477 - there are several different methods you could try, depending on the look you like. Check out the Prumihimo RUclips videos and I think Sally Bead Jewelry has a method on her RUclips channel as well.
@@JamieNorth Thank you!!
Wonderful explanation!
I'm glad you found it useful. Happy braiding!
Hi Jamie not sure if you follow Debbie coles but I’m thinking of doing this inside the indent on the lid! ruclips.net/video/pT7FqV3EkZY/видео.html
Thanks Jamie, I have the same problem with the 6" tiles vs the 6 1/4". Have you found a solution to fix the gap around the 6" tile? I reached out to Aftosa but no response yet. Beautiful pieces by the way.
I just make sure I resin the sides of the 6" tiles and not the sides of the 6.25" ones as they won't fit then. I haven't tried to fill the gap. I do think it would be helpful if Aftosa noted they fit 6.25" though. :)
Thanks so much for replying. Yes it would be helpful! I love your work by the way - have you done any videos? The 3-D centres are stunning!
Thank you. No videos on alcohol ink ... yet. I took an online class called Florals in Bloom from Alexis Bonavitacola. One of the demos in there by Kimberly Langlois touches on the middles - she doesn't go into depth, but you can get the idea - and I just went from there.
Jamie North well I’ve subscribed to your channel so if you post something I’ll get a notification! I’ll check out the class you mention. I’ve just moved from acrylic pouring to resin using inks and mica powders. Love this art form! Thanks again. Pam
Thank you for explaining how to do 7 strand kumihimo. I saw a pattern on Etsy and didn't know how to do 7 strand kumihimo and what the benefits of using it. Since I have seen this tutorial now I know!
Are you not making videos anymore?😢
Hi Mary and thanks for your question. I haven't for a while, but hope to make more soon.
Is this a hollow braid? None of the cords go across the centre hole so I think it might be?? it is so much more flexible and curvy than the 8 strand braid.
Thanks for the comment Suzen. No, it isn't hollow - there is very little room in the middle as with a hollow braid. But it really does allow for different shaped beads to work well together in the same braid. It is not a 'traditional' Kumihimo structure and has a straw plaiting origin.
Thank you =)
You are very welcome. Thanks for taking a look!
Thanks Jamie!
My pleasure Pat! Hope you found it useful and thanks for taking a look.
Great video! Thank you sharing your testing/information with everyone.
Brillant idea!! Thank you.
Really help video thank you! I always wondered how to do this! Can I ask where the craft tray comes from also? 🤔👍🏻
Thanks Hazel. The bead tray is called a Bead On It Board. They are made in the USA. I have a large one and this medium sized one. They are fabulous ... and pretty too. :D I plan to get a bit smaller one too that is easier to pack ... but at the moment, I pack this medium one when I travel.
u.
Can't wait to try this technique!
You explained the 7 strand so well. Thank you.
Thank you for making this video! U r a great teacher. I was wondering which strands got which bead .
My bobbins always slipped off. They were more trouble than they were worth. Who knew this tip makes all the difference? You did!! Thanks so much!
Glad it was helpful Lynn!
Simple, but oh so clever! Thanks heaps.
Just bought my bobbins today, thanks for the tip. :o)
You are such a great teacher!
Awww ... thanks Carmen!
Thank you so much for your video!
Glad you found it informative. Have fun!
