Running The SwissAlps 50K Ultramarathon in Switzerland (Self Supported)
Last October Ruben and I ran the route of the SwissAlps 50K, which is organised in august. We ran it self supported in 10 hours. We started near Fiesch and hiked up to the Aletsch Glacier, the biggest glacier of the Alps. Then we descended in the fall-coloured forest back to the valley. We enjoyed the trail so much, we signed up for the SwissAlps 100K in 2025!

Hiking 75km in The Picos de Europa with a Baby
Просмотров 2672 месяца назад
Exploring the Picos de Europa of Northern Spain and the cliffs of the Atlantic Coast with our eleven month old son. We used a Kid Carrier from Deuter and our son mostly slept while walking. Very accessible for families. We did 50km as a family and I added a 25k solo hike to the Refugio de Urriellu. These foil emergency blankets in reality are not a lot of use. The only thing they do is keep the wind off you. They act like a thermos, if you are alreqady cold, they just keep you cold, if you are still warm they do help to reflect the warmth back into the body. The trouble is by the time you use them you are already cold. We used to carry them kayaking all the time. A much better item but bulkier is a 1 or 2 man emergency shelter, called a Kissu, or bothy. Once two people get inside it warms up, you can get out of the weather, you can do first aid or eat your lunch or just rest, far more useful.

I hiked it last week, the route is open. - As long as the hut is open, they will put a daily update of the hiking conditions onto their website gleckstein ch. - If the hut is closed, you can still check the wheather by looking at their current webcam picture on that website and often still hike to the hut (but no stay over night).

Note: -many people died there before, you will find plenty of crucifixes along the way -the hike as a hole is not an official hiking route anymore (only parts of it) and therefore not maintained by anyone. The government strongly recommends not doing this hike -bring at least 5 liter of water -if there was rain two days before, don't attempt -you better be in amazing shape
