@@MegaDrive20XX I definitely want to give the PC Engine version a go. A PC Engine Duo or a Turbo Grafx 16 is high on the list of hardware to adopt into the family next if money and circumstances permit. :)

@jessicasretrolunacy PC Engine is the cheaper route to take, once I obtain one? I keep my TG16 on the back burner, but I adore both still.

@MegaDrive20XX Yeah I definitely prefer cheaper, but dang it I do like the look and form factor of the TG16, it would fit in very unintrusively to the setup. We'll see how it goes!

@@AngryDadGaming Americans spend way too much money, time, energy, and drama on elections. Most other countries that hold votes and elections make way less of a reality tv production out of it. It's prepostrous that it ever got to this point in the first place.

@@Gold2thGaming Yeah basically when I multitask, what really happens is only one thing gets done then all the other plates just fall to the floor. :D I do have a really fun set of ideas for Xmas to try to make it enjoyable again for me, so a few weeks to chill out should help while the election blows over. Erection is a better problem to have than election I'd wager. :D

@@benstylus I'll have to give it a looksee then. It does make me scratch my head that Sega hasn't tried to do anything with the IP beyond that, it's still a famous name from their catalog and has a wealth of untapped potential.

@@TheCriticalWranker Yeah Bram Stoker's Dracula is just... not pleasant. :D I still kinda like it in a macabre, masochistic way. And thank you! My whole household is essentially interlaced. I was gonna play Corpse Killer as well for the medley but my Sega CD's internal RAM is knackered so I could not get the game to launch properly.

@@jessicasretrolunacy That's strange, the Sega CD requires the internal ram to pass a check to even boot. Is it perhaps the SRAM? That is easily fixed by changing the 3.2v coin cell. This old hardware is a nightmare, I had to rebuild my Mega CD's motherboard to get it working again, those cheap electrolyte capacitors Sega used leak everywhere.

@TheCriticalWranker I've had the battery coin replaced and it didn't help, I think there's some kind of fault with the RAM chip itself. It will act like it's formatted then just reset itself when you boot a game. So I can play most of my collection still but certain titles like Road Rash are locked out.

@@jessicasretrolunacy Don't want to spam your comment section with a full conversation, but maybe the backup SRAM feature on an everdrive will help? Best of luck with it, Sega CD's are getting very expensive unfortunately.

@@TheCriticalWranker Oh I don't mind, I appreciate these kinds of discussions. An Everdrive with Sega CD functionality is in my future for sure. I figure I can still play most Sega CD games as is, if I can't repair this one I may also get a model 2 later for games that need the RAM to be functional. I'm enough of a lunatic to want both models 1 and 2 in my household. :D

@@benstylus Yeah it utterly sucks that Sega blocked compatibility between their light gun and American Dreamcast. House of the Dead 2 is absolutely awesome though and I will be playing it more. Might need to switch to the bigger CRT so I can play it comfortably from further away.

@@Gold2thGaming You know, I'm trying to go all the way back to 1996 and wonder how it felt the first time, it's responsive and fun to play right away, but the game will chew you up until you get a grip on turning and rolling, you have to continually adjust based on all the different terrain types. I love it to death, it's my favorite racer, but be prepared to get smacked around the first time you play. The beach babes are worth it though, and that music too. ;)

@@88yo88 It really does, I love it more every time I revisit it. I'm trying to recall what would have been closest to this on SNES... maybe Capcom fantasy beat em ups like Dungeons & Dragons and the like. I miss those days when different machines had different games that looked, sounded, and played distinctly across platforms.

@@AvexFuddle Aw thanks! Forcing myself to do manual transmission helped me get better. Still need to practice gear drifting and the Expert course, but wow has it been satisfying to get this far.

Virtua Fighter never clicked for me until the really thorough training mode in VF4 on PS2. Since then, the series has been my one true fighting game love.

@@Gold2thGaming Thank you! Yeah I like 90s Sonic as much as the next fangirl but I'm pretty much over it, there's too much else in Sega's catalog that deserves attention. I really hope the new Golden Axe does right by the classics.

@@Numocron Yees, I have gone through all of them except Soul Blade on PSX and Soul Calibur III, which I somehow missed upon release. I definitely sank an unreasonable amount of time into Soul Calibur IV's tower mode. This game on Dreamcast though, it remains my favorite, it's so smooth and infinitely replayable.

@@BuddyYellek 1 is a total mood, I love playing it to soak in the music and atmosphere, 3 did a lot of things right with combat, the improved specials, running, rolling, but yeah, SoR 2 really manages to be a fantastic balance of everything to love about to franchise, it's still the one to top from where I stand now.

@@jessicasretrolunacy I think the problem with Sega nowadays is that they’re way too single minded. They always want to think everything should always revolve around Sonic The Hedgehog. But at some point in time, they’re gonna have to move on to something else for a change.

@@Numocron I agree to an extent, since the Dreamcast days and the merger with Sammy, Sega's stock doesn't trade for much and they don't have the weight to throw around on a lot of risks, so to stay financially healthy they've leaned heavily on Sonic, Yakuza, and their Atlus titles. I hope these New Era games are good and sell well, that might lead to a true Sega renaissance where they aren't just seen as the Sonic and Yakuza company.

@@Numocron Absolutely, his work here on VectorMan grabbed my attention immediately and helped me get immersed in that world. This probably counts as one of my first forays into exploring and appreciating techno and electronica.

@@Numocron I totally agree, VectorMan is rad to the max! VectorMan 3 getting canceled was a huge blow to us fans, I hope someone at Sega will someday consider our pleas and revisit the IP.

Yeah the longer I stew on it, the more ridiculous it seems that someone in a relatively comfy position financially, who makes that living off of ostensibly helping people with health issues, can be so judgmental and aggressive toward others just because they aren't as outwardly enraged on social media. I am upset by what's happening to our fellow human beings but I don't think yelling at people on Twitter or Instagram is the way to make that better.

@@jessicasretrolunacy lately I’ve come to realize I need to get off Instagram and Twitter altogether. Bluesky has some issues too, but it’s far quieter and less addictive.

@@retrobeliever Thanks for chiming in, Rob, I always appreciate your perspective on things. I haven't gone into a lot of detail yet on my channel about this but I have a long history of being forced to give up things close to me because of trusting the wrong people or making some bad decisions, the one that hurts the most is giving up my drum kit and my car years ago (and a previous home if you wanna count that amongst possessions). You are correct that stuff is stuff, people, friendships, connections, and memories are more important. Where I think I'm landing on this in my heart and head is that while I am tired of sacrificing so much and my health is too fragile to go into the trenches, maybe I have an obligation to use my knowledge and what I have in my possession to create something good and uplifting for other people.

Believe me if there was a situation where I could literally save a life directly by selling a game I certainly would. As it stands now, at least if I can do my part to make people smile and have a better day, and maybe play my part in game preservation too, then that seems like a good purpose to have.

@@88yo88 I wouldn't ever put my piloting skills up there with Wash, but thank you. :) It took a lot of practice and coming to grips with manual transmission, but wow it sure was satisfying to figure out how to properly powerslide through those corners. The excitement of getting a turn just right, the tight controls, the music, there is nothing like Sega's arcade magic.
