Highlights from the 2024 Cordele Railfan Festival
After a one year absence, a friend and I attended the 2024 Cordele Railfan Festival. We spent three days in Cordele, and got footage from all three days. Here are the locos I saw plus some additional highlights of the weekend.

On a Saturday in May, I was treated to sixteen trains in only a little over six hours at Cordele, GA. This video contains the 37 locomotives from those trains. Unfortunately, nothing too special; just ordinary NS and CSX locomotives. Nevertheless, it was a fun day. Sources for locomotive information: CSX: thedieselshop.us NS: nsdash9.com

Alexander Park in McDonough, GA has several good vantage points for viewing trains. Here are a couple of trains I caught over the last several weeks.
December Austell Afternoon

Wasn't too busy at Austell when I went there on a recent Friday. Nice variety of trains and locos though. Sorry for the lack of content lately, but I really haven't had the chance to get out when the weather has been cooperating. I hope to do better for 2024. Gotta love the enthusiasm from young rail fans! ☺
Great video, thanks for sharing! Great horn salute.
@ 9:25 something very vibrant caught my eye. 😉
This is almost like being there, thanks for posting, Rail Geek.
Nice trains...looks like it was a good day.
I ❤️ love the American flag
Thank you for this....I somehow find your videos soothing.
You're very welcome, my friend.
NOOOOOOO
Hope i see you there some day
4:46 that little car i rare
i might see you there one day i usually railfan there
You made a mistake at the Time stamp: 1:30. It says CSX 762 Is an EMD SD70MAC which is not true and is actually an ES44AC.
I wonder if i ever saw you once in Locust grove or Jodeco road / Flippin road i believe? or Stockbridge GA but somehow i never saw you
man wish i saw that there
This spot is Dead Cause this line gets barely any trains
wrong, usually theres alot of trains at 8AM on Saturdays
@@vuurvrproductions4656 well over here by my house, It’s dead in the afternoon
@@DTRProductions. says that theres always trains every hour but that seems wrong now.
Not an emergency, but thanks for the click bait.
Very cool!
3:36 that container moved a bot after that force slack
did you know if your at Jodeco road then going to locust grove now those trees are gone and you can see the tracks from far away i bet its gonna be more useless warehouses 😒
Most likely indeed.
@@railgeekusa Stupid warehouses man its so annoying!
hey there UP 8231 is a GE ES44, not an EMD SD90 , and UP 4742 is an EMD SD 70M, not an SD40-2 as labelled in the video, just EYI
Really quick stop, but im not 100% sure if it was emergency because I never heard no air dump.
csx 762 is an es44ac-h not an sd70mac
Is that loud noise at 2:25 a sign of the brakes?
slack action between the cars because of the sudden brake application so yes
sir, The first engine is a ET44AC, DPU, IS not sd70mac, where the hell did you get this from, also thats an ES44AC.
Horrible pain job looks like a 10 year old did it
Definitely was not emergency. Air never shot out. Combo of hard brake setting and dynamic braking most likely
I was also in Ashland the same time it happend
That would suck having a train go there the center of town
The engineers don't wave from the trains anymore, not like they did back in 1954.chris
Well I dunno, I get waved at and tooted at fairly often....
At I just hope it's not to those cellphones; thanks, chris
The engineers don't wave from the trains anymore, like they did back in 1954.
Omg look it’s a csx passenger train
I just realized this was on my birthday
Just so you Know, That Engine you so Called a "EMD SD70MAC" is Actually a ES44AH, Just An FYI.
No emergency application, maybe a full service application, but not even close to an emergency application..click bait title..thumbs down 👎
My calculation puts the stop at about 1000', as 18 cars passed the point of emergency.
what was the cause of the emergency
Probably a coupler seberit
quietest emergency ive ever heard
Too bad you didn't have a Radio to Monitor Train Traffic! I always carried Amateur Radio that could Cover RR Frequencies, or just a ICOM IC-R20 2-wave simultaneous wideband receiver.
I have bc75xlt scanner
The mid train helper was not an sd 70 mac !
Not emergency at all. Click bait. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Uhhhh yes it did. That’s why it stopped so fast. EOT or a loco probably had air issues
How did the train 'unemergency' it's self so that it could be on it's way again ?? Didn't someone have to reconnect the air hoses, or was it an application by the engineer himself for some why ?? Aarre Peltomaa
@MARKIBEAN I'm a tractor-trailer driver, and I drive a cornbinder (International). I like the tractor, except, sometimes the airpressure is too low to switch gears in the automatic shifter transmission. There is Drive, Low, Neutral, and Reverse. Sometimes I have to park it at the dock, and then rev the engine for minutes until the air pressure in both the primary and secondary tanks is about 110 psi; Only then can I shift to Drive to leave. I love the automatic shifters except for this one nuisance point; not too much of a problem at all. It would be embarrassing at a customs booth at the border though. So how did the trains air pressure get too low ? Did he apply and let go of the brakes too frequently in a short span of time so that air was lost faster than the compressor could rebuild it ? In a tractor trailer, this would only happen when doing too many small moves in a yard, with too many frequent brake applications. On the highway, it would never happen unless you had an air leak; if it did happen one MUST PULL TO THE SHOULDER AND PARK IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BEFORE THE BRAKES LOCK UP AND YOU LOSE DRIVEABILITY. Aarre Peltomaa
2:25
I heard that bang noise when after the the blue CSX Container passed Buy the 📷 then that noise.
Unless CSX changed it's rules, the conductor should have had to walk the train to make sure all cars were upright and on the rails after an emergency stop. Anybody hear the radio chatter from this event?
I did not have my radio on me. I was standing on the west side of the tracks, and it's very possible that the conductor walked up and down the east side.
On NS, if the train meets certain length and tonnage requirements and the air is restoring at the rear, we don't have to walk the train.
@@NSHorseheadSD70 Well, that's NS, and it was the rule on CSX 20 years ago, but it changed in the early 00's. Maybe it changed back in the last 10 or so years as they try and get to one-man crews?
@@paulw.woodring7304 Why does it matter so much to you? You seem awfully bothered by it.
@@stevec5829 I was a CSX engineer until 2008.
The diamonds are control by CSX Jacksonville FL.
Nice to know! Thanks.
Any idea why it went into emergency?
No, and I don't want to speculate.
Knuckle got Destroyed
3:36 i was waiting for something to happen so i turned my volume to max, my whole class heard it lol
It’s pronounced “sham-blee”
Why do the coal trains have BNSF power
Since they travel directly from mine to power plant, it would be inefficient to stop and change out the locomotives.
Never see an emergency stop in such a quiet style.
From my vantage point the "bang" was pretty loud, but overall the train came to a stop without a lot of screeching.
I didn't even hear the air.
@@railgeekusa 2:25 sounds more like something burst instead of air bleeding. And maybe this section of train just got its wheels and brake shoes serviced, so it is so quite?
@@blake_edwards Yup, it sounds more like something burst.
