Amazing room!!
How do you secure your wood please? I have a large heavy boa moving into a 8x3x3 and need to secure the branches. Don’t want things moving whilst she climbs. Thanks
What about sealing the wood?
I have tons of videos that cover what I do to protect the wood. Check out my epic builds and DIY vivarium playlists
I’ve always wanted false water cobras, but my parents are rly afraid of snakes so….
When can you spray with the black water spray? Did you do it after 24h of drying?
I wait until it's dry yes
loving the videos and learning alot, and finding the confidence to doung a background. wish I had found sooner.. im currently doing a huge custom plywood build for my chinese water dragon so was very concerned about waterproofing the plywood, and was recommended yacht varnish.. but phew very smelly... is that gonna be ok once fully cured and dried or have I made boo boo and should have used low odour one. xx
Yacht varnish will be fine but takes a while to air out and stop smelling. Using a fan might help speed the process up. I did it once and never again 😂
i cant find those or similar door tracks anywhere in my country D:
What's the actual name of the floor protector? Do you know where to find it in the US? I tried searching Correx and corrugated floor protector at Lowe's and Google and I couldn't find it?
I had a quick Google using the words "temporary floor protector" and it brings up a few companies in the us that make a similar product. I'm in the UK so can't really help with brands unfortunately
My units kept coming on randomly at a 100% throughout the night when not programmed too, I find them very unreliable
I had that also, have you tried running the lamps on a different custom mode? Mine only worked on custom mode 5 for some reason
great videos ive just recently subscribed and have found your explanations very helpful and im currently building a 4 x 4 x 2 viv for my bearded dragon one suggestion i have to add is have you considered spray contact adhesive for applying the plastic liners ??
Thanks! Personally it hasn't crossed my mind to use spray glue, HA6 silicone works great for everything I do
@norwichreptileshed thanks for a reply ha6 definitely the tried and tested solution happy new year
I don't build my own, but great to watch.
Thanks!
What paint are you using?
I stain mine with a low voc wood stain.
@norwichreptileshed thanks
Did the grass survive, mine always die
It's going strong still but I don't mind it dying, I think it looks cool still
what kind of silicone did you use? came out great!
Thanks, I use HA6
Can they catch springtails?
I think they might be a bit small, not sure! I prefer using pre killed prey when they are young
Looks good man! I just woken up my tortoise because is was worried. A fridge seems like a good way to keep te the temperature on a good level. Maybe i gotta try that as well next year.
Silly question, does the plastic you use for waterproofing handle being scratched by lizards though?
Unfortunately not, monitor lizard claws and anything beardie size will eventually pierce it. Same as most plastic sheeting options.
Awesome build 😊😊 Do you mind if I ask for the full measurements of the build please I have 2 FWC myself
Thanks! This is 6ft wide, 2.5ft deep and 3ft tall
Looks great mate please keep uploading you do some creative and awesome stuff keep the hard work up. 👍 I do have a question though ive seen your custom vivs were do you get your glass cut.
Thanks! I order my glass from a local glass merchant in Norwich
I know it is 2 years later, but that build has me confused: for what species is the terrarium?
I can't remember what species they decided to keep in there. As I said in the video, it was a surprise gift so no particular species in mind.
Love your stuff mate
Thanks!
Was the real thick stuff also grout? Maybe I missed it.. Also, what else could I seal it with? Thanks and amazing background!!
Hi, this is flexible tile adhesive with no mould inhibitors. You can seal with varnish or epoxy pond sealer.
Thanks. I have grout to cover styrofoam and spray foam. Should I do last layer of grout thicker to get this effect?
Yes, I do a few a thin coats then a thicker coat at the end
@@norwichreptileshed Thanks.. what about sealing a water dish and humid hide.. Would like to make some out of spray foam/foam to match, but worried about safety with snake drinking out of dish and moss being wet in hide..
Where can we get suitable glass from for our custom made viv for bearded dragon?
Where do you order your glass from , im currently building one . Not sure where to get glass from
Just came across your channel a couple of days and saw this custom viv. Found the 3 part video and am considering to do something similar for bci male
Hi, I have just waterproofed a new wooden vivarium with your video from 3 years ago (thank you for these videos, they have been really helpful); in that video you put the proplex protection sheet with its print downwards, I just assumed that's fine and preferred the cleanness of just black so did that. After doing all of it I and sealing it all I then see the print on the scraps saying 'this side up' and you doing so in your other videos like this one.... have I messed up? are there any issues with glueing the print side down when waterproofing vivariums like you did 3 years ago??
Hi, as far as I can tell the proplex is the same either way up, especially for the purpose of what we are using it for. I normally lay it print side down just so it looks clean.
Is this for a full grown?
Yes
@ oh thanks
Is this for a juvenile?
Yes definitely
@@norwichreptileshed oh ok, thanks
@@d3sert_w0lf I have two builds on my channel for adults also
@@norwichreptileshed oh ok! Thanks
What is this?
Boiga cyanea / Green Cat Snake
Fantastic build , love the idea of basking light hidden by the fake wall , how have you mounted that hidden light mate , and how far away from the foam is it safe to habe a heat source
How many bits of plywood did you use did one do the whole thing or did you order quite a few
This is made with off cuts from other vivarium builds. It could be made from a single sheet but it would have to be a little smaller.
What kind of grass/plant is that? I love this setup!!
Thanks! That's carex grass
Looks amazing! Your animals are lucky to have you as their caretaker. 😊
Thank you!
Nice video! Question: If I have the Lumenize LED and ProT5 plugged in separately, I don't need the link cable and can still program them both on the same app, correct?
Hi, linked or individually powered makes no difference, they need to be individually programmed regardless.
@@norwichreptileshed Thank you for your reply. To clarify, is linking just for the convenience of using one plug outlet, then?
@@daisiesushitam984 yeah thats exactly what's it's for
Wow 😄 I’m trying to build a huge enclosure just like yours! What plants have you found to withstand repeated ball python crushing?
Great stuff mate, it looks amazing. I Absolutely love boiga I’m working with melanota and I’m after cyanea currently. all my vivs are based off of your design in teak. I Also just picked up a pair of Gonyasoma Oxycephalum, the Sliver phase they are WC24 animals. They are really stunning also.
Thanks dude!
Thanks for the video. Do you have a link to the track? Most tracks I have found that looks like yours is wider than the 18mm wood you’re using. Does your track fit flush on the wood or is there a slight overhang? Thanks again
Hi, I don't have a link as I've used various sellers on eBay due to listings being taken down. Most of my tracks are thinner than 18mm so I do have a small lip. I have that on the inside so it's not noticeable. I've never come across 4mm glass track that is wider than 18mm
@@norwichreptileshed thanks. Do you use that same size glass for any size habitat? Have you ever had an issue with a big glass door because the weight isn’t completely supported by the track? I appreciate your help.
@@cosmo9362 sorry the late reply, I use 4mm for everything except my royal python enclosure which is 6mm and is very heavy on the tracks, i occasionally lubricate it with silicone spray to help.
What size tank is that? It’s nice!!
Thanks! It's 5ft wide, 6ft tall and 2.5ft deep
Awesome❤
Are both your royal pythons living in there still? 😊 love this set up
They sure are!
This would make the guy from Reptiles and research very happy
I've chatted on a podcast with Liam and Ellie from Reptiles and Research about this vivarium
@@norwichreptileshed ha I thought it looked familiar! Very cool.
I’m looking to build my own, hopefully next year. You mentioned that PVC would be more expensive, does that take into account that you don’t need to by the stain or the water proofing sheets etc?
In the UK it's definitely more expensive but I can't speak for any other countries.
@@norwichreptileshed I am in the UK. Cambridgeshire and I often go to norfolk for work and holidays lol. I will probably go the same route as you have then.
@@360cabbage ah yes in the UK it's definitely cheaper to go with plywood and varnish
Lovely job replicating one of their natural settings. The hognose snakes in the pet trade (H. nasicus) are native to a wide range of environments, including the semi-arid ones your enclosure mimics. But in the US upper Midwest, they tend to overwinter in rodent burrows on the prairies that they live on in spring and autumn. If they have the opportunity, many will migrate to be nearer to wetlands and ponds in summer, where their favorite food (amphibians) is most abundant, and the ground temperature stays more comfortable for them. So there are a variety of options for giving them naturalistic enclosures, like grassland and shrub biomes, or greenery that won't be uprooted by their burrowing in a typical bioactive vivarium.
Thanks! That's a great native range description
Very spoiled snake, lol. If someone wanted to paint a big home made enclosure rather than stain it, what paint would be suitable that can buy bought in a big tub, and sealant for after? Would the enclosure need primed or just painted then varnished.
I painted a vivarium once with a zero voc paint but they have since gone out of business. I'm no expert in wood finishes so can't help too much with primers and paints, sorry!
I’m so glad I found a British reptile channel!! This was so helpful, I’m moving my 2 tortoises in for autumn/winter and I’ve been looking at buying a fresh vivarium to do this but I didn’t realise just how expensive they’ve got - literally even just for flat pack! But after watching this video I’m definitely looking at building my own, as you were very informative & made it look possible! Is there a way you could link the video that you said you had about putting the flooring in at the end as it didn’t come up for me? Also is there any videos on fitting a viv with electrics? Thank you so much :) keep on with this channel its great 😊
I'm glad you found me! If you search my channel for "waterproofing a wooden vivarium" that's the video about the flooring, it's in my DIY vivariums playlists. As for your tortoises, you don't have to build vivariums for them, in fact they do much better on table set ups, plus they are much easier to build! I cover electrics on most of my builds but I don't have a dedicated video as they all differ slightly depending on species.
Really enjoy watching this. If you painted it, what type of paint would you use so it was safe for the lizard? Thanks
Thanks! Sorry I don't have a recommendation on paint as I don't use it, you are looking for a water based zero voc product and then varnish over it low voc water based varnish.
Love the video! Couldn’t you maybe do the same but for ball python. Mine needs an upgrade and would love to set him up properly
Thanks! The basics are the same, you just need to change up the environment. Same UVB, a hotter heat lamp and slightly more tropical environment with plenty of hides and climbing opportunities
yum
I built a nice one tor my garden. Just as winters coming im putting the roof on.... Just didnt make a slope! So trying to work out how to now do it so it looks good still 😂
Oh no! I don't vary the height of my frames but I add a piece of timber on the high side after just to give the roof a slight slope
Great video got lots of tips. Could you show us how you fit your wiring please?
Hi, I don't have a dedicated video as they vary depending on the equipment I need but I cover electricals on most of my specific builds
