What kind of grass/plant is that? I love this setup!!
Thanks! That's carex grass
Looks amazing! Your animals are lucky to have you as their caretaker. 😊
Thank you!
Nice video! Question: If I have the Lumenize LED and ProT5 plugged in separately, I don't need the link cable and can still program them both on the same app, correct?
Hi, linked or individually powered makes no difference, they need to be individually programmed regardless.
@@norwichreptileshed Thank you for your reply. To clarify, is linking just for the convenience of using one plug outlet, then?
@@daisiesushitam984 yeah thats exactly what's it's for
Wow 😄 I’m trying to build a huge enclosure just like yours! What plants have you found to withstand repeated ball python crushing?
Great stuff mate, it looks amazing. I Absolutely love boiga I’m working with melanota and I’m after cyanea currently. all my vivs are based off of your design in teak. I Also just picked up a pair of Gonyasoma Oxycephalum, the Sliver phase they are WC24 animals. They are really stunning also.
Thanks dude!
Thanks for the video. Do you have a link to the track? Most tracks I have found that looks like yours is wider than the 18mm wood you’re using. Does your track fit flush on the wood or is there a slight overhang? Thanks again
Hi, I don't have a link as I've used various sellers on eBay due to listings being taken down. Most of my tracks are thinner than 18mm so I do have a small lip. I have that on the inside so it's not noticeable. I've never come across 4mm glass track that is wider than 18mm
@@norwichreptileshed thanks. Do you use that same size glass for any size habitat? Have you ever had an issue with a big glass door because the weight isn’t completely supported by the track? I appreciate your help.
@@cosmo9362 sorry the late reply, I use 4mm for everything except my royal python enclosure which is 6mm and is very heavy on the tracks, i occasionally lubricate it with silicone spray to help.
What size tank is that? It’s nice!!
Thanks! It's 5ft wide, 6ft tall and 2.5ft deep
Awesome❤
Are both your royal pythons living in there still? 😊 love this set up
They sure are!
This would make the guy from Reptiles and research very happy
I've chatted on a podcast with Liam and Ellie from Reptiles and Research about this vivarium
@@norwichreptileshed ha I thought it looked familiar! Very cool.
I’m looking to build my own, hopefully next year. You mentioned that PVC would be more expensive, does that take into account that you don’t need to by the stain or the water proofing sheets etc?
In the UK it's definitely more expensive but I can't speak for any other countries.
@@norwichreptileshed I am in the UK. Cambridgeshire and I often go to norfolk for work and holidays lol. I will probably go the same route as you have then.
@@360cabbage ah yes in the UK it's definitely cheaper to go with plywood and varnish
Lovely job replicating one of their natural settings. The hognose snakes in the pet trade (H. nasicus) are native to a wide range of environments, including the semi-arid ones your enclosure mimics. But in the US upper Midwest, they tend to overwinter in rodent burrows on the prairies that they live on in spring and autumn. If they have the opportunity, many will migrate to be nearer to wetlands and ponds in summer, where their favorite food (amphibians) is most abundant, and the ground temperature stays more comfortable for them. So there are a variety of options for giving them naturalistic enclosures, like grassland and shrub biomes, or greenery that won't be uprooted by their burrowing in a typical bioactive vivarium.
Thanks! That's a great native range description
Very spoiled snake, lol. If someone wanted to paint a big home made enclosure rather than stain it, what paint would be suitable that can buy bought in a big tub, and sealant for after? Would the enclosure need primed or just painted then varnished.
I painted a vivarium once with a zero voc paint but they have since gone out of business. I'm no expert in wood finishes so can't help too much with primers and paints, sorry!
I’m so glad I found a British reptile channel!! This was so helpful, I’m moving my 2 tortoises in for autumn/winter and I’ve been looking at buying a fresh vivarium to do this but I didn’t realise just how expensive they’ve got - literally even just for flat pack! But after watching this video I’m definitely looking at building my own, as you were very informative & made it look possible! Is there a way you could link the video that you said you had about putting the flooring in at the end as it didn’t come up for me? Also is there any videos on fitting a viv with electrics? Thank you so much :) keep on with this channel its great 😊
I'm glad you found me! If you search my channel for "waterproofing a wooden vivarium" that's the video about the flooring, it's in my DIY vivariums playlists. As for your tortoises, you don't have to build vivariums for them, in fact they do much better on table set ups, plus they are much easier to build! I cover electrics on most of my builds but I don't have a dedicated video as they all differ slightly depending on species.
Really enjoy watching this. If you painted it, what type of paint would you use so it was safe for the lizard? Thanks
Thanks! Sorry I don't have a recommendation on paint as I don't use it, you are looking for a water based zero voc product and then varnish over it low voc water based varnish.
Love the video! Couldn’t you maybe do the same but for ball python. Mine needs an upgrade and would love to set him up properly
Thanks! The basics are the same, you just need to change up the environment. Same UVB, a hotter heat lamp and slightly more tropical environment with plenty of hides and climbing opportunities
yum
I built a nice one tor my garden. Just as winters coming im putting the roof on.... Just didnt make a slope! So trying to work out how to now do it so it looks good still 😂
Oh no! I don't vary the height of my frames but I add a piece of timber on the high side after just to give the roof a slight slope
Great video got lots of tips. Could you show us how you fit your wiring please?
Hi, I don't have a dedicated video as they vary depending on the equipment I need but I cover electricals on most of my specific builds
Looks really good and I'm in the process of building two for my hognoses but worry a 4x2x2 is too big for a male. Just wondering what percentage and size is the shade dwellers?
Thanks! I use 7% for most of my snakes
Is it possible to do this in a aquarium ?
I couldn't say, sorry.
How much does this build cost to build?
If you adjusted the measurements to use one sheet of plywood then I think you could make it for £110 with glass, tracks and vents
Amazing work m8
Thanks!
Glass is so cheap in your country it's crazy.
What environment should i try to replicate in my terrarium for this snake?
A fairly humid, warm jungle. I research their native range on a website called weatherspark and try to replicate real life weather data
measure depth of top track -1-2mm then add that to the opening dimension. Much more easierer
I have a question. Hoping you can help me. Can't find an answer on google. I've acquired a custom viv built from mdf. It's around 4yrs old and has previously had a fogger in it so it's done a great job at standing up against humidity. It's currently green, I've no idea what paint has been used on it. I'm wanting to change the colour to black but no idea what to use on it. I was thinking maybe ronseal fence life plus but I don't know. Any help is much appreciated
I'm not sure I have the answer for that one sorry! I don't use MDF and I know it can be a pain to paint. I don't use paint in the shed, just stains and they won't on MDF.
@@norwichreptileshed OK. I was looking forward to building one for the very first time and planned to use plywood but then this one was given to me and it's just the size I wanted. Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply anyway 👍
this is great and has given me the motivation to look into costs for building my own rather than buying a ready made as i am very new to reptiles and we are getting our first snake next week and a small viv for the time being as it is a baby.
That's great to hear!
Love to see it - hognose is spoiled in that tank! The music is so epic lol
How do you install the heat lamps and lights in a way that make the enclosures stackable? Do you have any videos where you demonstrate installing the lamp holders?
Hi, I normally cut two little strips of plywood to mount my lights on so air can flow around the fitting. I mainly use hanging lamp domes in my big enclosures
How did you work out the other half of the water pump? Like, how does the filter system take in water from the front of the enclosure?
Hi, in this build the cork divider allowed water to pass underneath so the pump that was fitted beneath the soil circulated the water back to the front again
Thank you
What flower is that please ? And what other flowers do you feed bearded dragons pls in the uk
That's lavatera, I also used to feed mallow, hibiscus, rose and dandelions
How do you keep up with the humidity
I don't do anything special with the humidity, my room sits at around 50%
Just discovered your channel, and subscribed. Will start from the 1st one after I've watched this 2nd half. Finally someone from UK so I know I can get the bits for building etc. And easy to follow methods. I'm about to embark on a 4x4x2 ft enclosure for my corn boy. I will like all your videos, in the hope that it helps spread your channel. 😊
Thank you! Hope you enjoy them! Good luck with your build
Beautiful 💚
Isn't she! Upgraded vivarium build coming soon for this girl
Love these videos
Thanks!
Hi, have you got any links to the glass track?
Hi, I normally use a seller on eBay called lotus_nut
Hi, What is the name of the plastic/product?
Hi, in Wickes it's called proplex floor protection sheets, but there is a few brands that make the same thing
I am in the US and having trouble finding that... Is it the same or is it safe to use like: GoBoard 3-ft x 5-ft x 1/2-in Waterproof Polyisocyanurate Backer Board Or a cement backer board type thing? I currently have the bottom lined with reptile shelf liner type thing, but had to cut extra pieces to completely cover bottom, and so there are slight gaps in-between pieces and I don't want urate or anything leaking through? Does that make sense lol
They look fantastic. I have built a Degu enclosure out of 18mm MDF before but despite that was a little hesitant to make a vivarium. Not anymore 😅
Awesome!
Laaaaaad, how have I not found ypu yet.. legend for the videos.. I got alot to catch up on lol.
Welcome to the party! I do have tons of stuff on here. Hope you enjoy
How does it lock??
I use rubber glass wedges
How does it lock??
What type of plywood did you use?
18mm hardwood plywood
Awesome 😊
Thanks!
How do you make them waterproof so the wood doesn’t mold with humidity?
I line the substrate area with floor protection sheeting, check out my other videos all about it. As for the wood in general, I stain and varnish the plywood
@@norwichreptileshed thank you!
Da muss ein Schutz ran so verbrennen die sich
Amazing work. Do you use 1/2 or 3/4 plywood
Thanks! I use 18mm plywood so that's around 3/4 or 23/32
@@norwichreptileshed ok ty again 😊😊keep up work love watching your videos
does your croc skink climb up the hide wall at all?
Yeah he uses all the background and soil areas
@@norwichreptileshed that's awesome
