    You should never bolt the new attic floor rafters to the ceiling rafters they should always be independent to each other so weight and movement on the converted attic floor has no bearing on the bedroom ceilings underneath. The new rafters should be set a half inch gap so they don't touch the plasterboard if they sag over time.

    • @ANCarpentry
      @ANCarpentry Месяц назад

      I agree that if you fit new joists alongside of the existing sealing joist the should be kept separated to prevent noise transfer , but in this case where they are cut of on one end there is not much you can do about that as they can’t be left floating unfixed as still taking weight of ceiling, whats left of original.

    Thanks for going over depth setting lock. I need something i can trust. On my last job my makita kept loosening at the depth setting knob and it would go to deepest setting. Seriously scary kickbacks if i didnt double check it ripping 2x4s on sleeper subfloors. I just found out the closest cut to a wall is is 31mm for mafell and 12mm for makita. I need under 3/4” for cutting perimeters around hardwood floors. May just have to keep both tracksaws.

    Just a couple of point to what looks like a job you have done quite well if it’s DIY. I’d always prefer to replace rotten timber rafters rather than use a ‘sister’. I also understand why you choose secret gutters under the tiles, but the problem with them is they become blocked after a few years and require clearing. With the walls projecting above the roof my guess is this is southern England. Given the cap-stones don’t overlap you might consider replacement. Mortar joints open up after a few years and rain water gets in the top of the wall.

      I am not a roofer but have helped doing some in past, as long as follow specifications of materials should be all good, I agree I would prefer to change timber( rafters my self) but was up against time, as weather is so unpredictable so I could not risk house getting drenched, with secret gutters that is second line of defence, you will see in the video, but thanks for coment👍

      I am not a roofer originally but have been helping some in past, I find as long as follow material instructions and bit of common sense then all should work, with secret gutters that is going to be second line of defence as I will be dressig lead over it as normally would be done, yes it is Southern England, correct, I did manage to find fibreglass trim’s after all which where sold locally so after all cap-stones finished job (mainly to way down on fibreglass capping as it was originally on one of the sides) which you will be able to see later on video.

    • @ANCarpentry

    What do you do when the protruding joint between the cill and the frame sat on it is higher than the top of the window board? Joint being 35mm high and window board only 25mm thick?

    • @ANCarpentry
      @ANCarpentry 3 месяца назад

      It would depend on customer, I would give him option, first one; sitting against the window board and ignoring the protruding edge or second ; packing the window board so it sits above the window cill edge, you can also always reduce thickness of the window boards edge at top that way you can reduce the gap between window board and the opening, it would most likely depend on what is the smallest gap you could potentially get so It can be caulked, I would say (max 5 mm) otherwise it would need filling and decorating, to achieve good finish.

    • @handle1196
      @handle1196 3 месяца назад

      @ANCarpentry the issue I'm trying to overcome in the design phase is probably unavoidable unless the window board is packed up. What do you use to pack up? It would then mean the window board didnt have a continuous bead of adhesive so maybe have to use screws.

    • @ANCarpentry
      @ANCarpentry 3 месяца назад

    Nice review, bought one after this video. Question tho; do you have a part number for that attachment you bought separately? I see multiple online
