Master Jin stood atop a mountain covered with cherry blossoms. It was not his first time seeing the sight, but it was the first time he had seen it in this life. A breeze rustled the cherry blossoms taking a few of the flowers as it blew by. At that altitude, the air was cold and nipped at his nose and ears as it caressed his cheeks. The sensation was such a familiar one that a flood of memories flashed before his mind’s eyes. There were too many memories for him to latch on to so he just let them pass by as a blur. However, one memory was as clear and gripping as the sight before him. “Huh!… a thousand,” he chuckled under his breath. The slight satisfaction and irony he felt as a couple hundred memories flashed by in which his parents or friends in each life would scold him in different languages for the many risks he would take by saying, “With the stupidity you have, the heavens would never let you see your next life, let alone a thousand…” Aah the irony! To his better knowledge, he was the only person in existence to have reached a thousand with his memories still intact… and in his gut he knew that it was exceedingly rare enough for anyone to even experience their thousandth life, with or without their memories. Four thousand seven hundred and ninety six years lived. Albeit, most of his lives were not long. Often caused by war, sickness, starvation and all of the other common causes. However He had lived long in many of his later lives, once even reaching a hundred and twelve, only to die from a simple fall. There were a few times when he ended it himself, either from despair and sometimes for the greater good as he been born into royalty a few times. In this life, he had been born to the emperor of small but well established kingdom and was fourth in line to the throne. He would rule the kingdom if the responsibility was given to him, but otherwise, he preferred to stay out of the course of history except under certain situations where it would be necessary to intervene. “Your highness. It is nearly time for the announcement in the throne room,” said the eunuch that had accompanied him up the small mountain. He seemed somewhat exhausted. “Very well, we shall return at once. Fetch me my horse,” he replied. They left soon after. Jin knew what the announcement was for. There would be a large scale invasion onto their territory by a neighboring kingdom from the north east, and Jin preferred to keep this land untainted by preventing bloodshed on this land. To do so, he would lead a preemptive offensive as general in command to annex their enemy before they can act. He knew he would win. After all, this was his twenty third great war, and he had won eighteen of them.
