This was the puzzle I have been solving for almost 3 decades now 😂

This was outside the box thinking by changing the environment from flatland to torus-land. Nice! I Guess it should be also possible to fold the paper like a curtain(or like sawtooth waves), if you know what i mean. If the paper is unfolded you draw some lines ending before they reach the houses(not directly connected lines) some other lines will be directly connected to the houses. After you made all 9 Lines in this manner then if you fold it like a curtain(or like sawtooth waves) then everything should be connected without intersecting. What do you think?

So the problem is solvable on the shape of a torus. Real-Life manager: Engineer fullfill the requirements engineer: One does not simply fullfill the requirements without a donut. This was outside the box thinking by changing the environment(from flatland to torus-land)

This is a problem of misdirection. It is bringing a 3-dimensional world into a 2-dimensional world. We know gas and water run underground and the electric grid is above ground, therefore, we have to represent the gas company and the water company as one. When we do that, we are left with the energy "E", the water/gas "WG", and the 3 houses between them connected to the utilities by 6 lines. A pyramid in the 3D world is a triangle in the 2D world. The same thing happens here. Trying to bring the problem to the 3D world defeats the purpose.

i solved it by just running the raw aewage line through the power station, i know it's kinda cheating but sometimes it's the only way

place the utilities over the houses. for the sake of simplicity beginning with the upper left utility draw a line around to the lower right house in the center of the bottom. now from the middle utility, and then from the right until all the utility lines terminate at the same point under the bottom right house. now simply draw three lines from this exact point to the bottom center of the next and repeat the process to terminate all lines at the bottom left house. no lines have crossed and in life they would be connected level and apart and not crossing. only graph science people object to the solution when it solved, as the trolly track problem is solved, within its stated parameters

This Puzzle forms part of the infamous `Idiot Tests`. its not actually a puzzle , it is meant to be a trick Question to catch you out. Question - Houses A - B and C. you have Electricity, Gas and Water Pipes. put all three into each house without crossing the pipes. Answer - Its impossible, Electricity flows throw a `CABLE` not a `PIPE` . Simple.

It's a 2D problem. So try do this on a wall

The graph you have created is no longer planar. The key idea of the three utilities problem is to maintain the planar structure and by folding the paper, you have introduced ellipses to the problem which violate the laws established by the problem.

My dad gave my this puzzle 15+ years ago and I have tried well over 1000 times to solve it. I gave up like 5 or so years ago (would do it every now and then as i found it cathartic). After all this time I decided to Google and found this. It's comforting to see there is no "legit" solution. You're video was very helpful.

I just found a scrap of paper in a pile of notes with this puzzle on it, along with the Ten Horses and nine stables puzzle, no rules just a pattern of lines and letters,.. Took me a moment to remember what it was and had to find if anyone else had had success, so found this video, thank you your demonstation is very clear... For now this scrap of paper is going in my memories book ( with added rules) to ensure impossible utilities can be attempted and enjoyed again and again.

But the lines do "magically" pass through the paper, just on the edge rather than the middle.

Pretty clever theory but this can be solved using the 3 utiliteis& 3 house method, im 60 yrs old and was shown this solved puzzle years ago by my father...I will see if I can remember how it was done...I'll be back!!!

Got into a big argument at work about this, some guy said he'd solved it. By definition, it's impossible, these guys were too thick to realise they were basically cheating..🤣❤️

OMG after 12 years i got the solution 😭

The solution divides the torus surface into only three regions, which violates Euler's formula F+V=E+2, giving 3+6<>9+2 thus proving the impossibility on a 2D surface.
