Fly tying
Olive Wally Wing Caddis
This Caddis size 14 dry fly can be an effective performer on the water during the beginning and the end of a caddis hatch when caddis are emerging and then when they are spent. The CDC and partrige fibers give this fly a life like movement when floating on the water surface.

Parachute Variant - Green Drake
Просмотров 4353 года назад
Effective pattern for a Green Drake hatch in that the fly resembles an emerger as well as a dun on the water. My experience with Green Drake hatches is that trout tend to take emergers over duns. The CDC hackle allows more movement of the fibers in fly's parachute post. Hence, the fly has more of a life like performance on the water. Yes, size, shape and color of a fly are important to its succ...
Madam X Attractor Dry Fly
Просмотров 2193 года назад
The Madam "X" is a solid performer on the water. The fly sits low in the water surface and be tied in different sizes and color variations to imitate a stonefly or hopper. An effective pattern to use when searching for trout during the quiet times on the water. Materials list: Hook: Firehole #718 Size 12 Thread: Tan & Orange 14/0 Gordon Griffith's Sheer Rib: Gold Ultrawire Small Whitting Hackle...
Hackle Stacker Emerger
Просмотров 5023 года назад
This Hackle Stacker (Para-Loop) Emerger ia an effective pattern to use during a PMD hatch when trout are feeding on emergers or during the hatch when PMD duns are not working. This is a killer fly to use during a BWO hatch since BWOs spend considerable time floating on the water before hatching into duns. This emerger tied in an olive color, sizes 18 to 22, will duplicate the real BWO emergers....
Bug Eye Stimulator

Effective attractor dry fly that can be used when hopper, stoneflies or large caddis are on the water. Great dry and dropper pattern. Can be tied in different sizes and color variations to match the bugs on the water. Pattern floats like a cork. Can purchase this fly on etsy.com "Millerkillerflies" shop. Ghost Wing CDC Hatch Master
Просмотров 5535 лет назад
The Ghost Wing CDC Hatch Master is a great little fly to use during a BWO hatch. When the fly is dry, it can be fished as a dry and when wet, the fly can be fished as an emerger. Best results for me have been as an emerger, size 18 and 20.
Organza Crawler Nymph
Просмотров 2045 лет назад
Organza Crawler Nymph is one of my favorite go to nymphs during quite times on the water. Great searching pattern. Used generally as the up fly on a two fly nymphing rig.
Wally Wing Dun Cripple
Просмотров 3615 лет назад
The Wally Wing Dun Cripple can be tied as PMD, BWO (Baetis), Flav, Green or Brown Drake type of mayfly. Great fly to fish during a mayfly hatch in that it gives the fish a look at something different. At times, fish just key in on cripples. Best luck with pattern on the water is when tied at a size 18 and 20 BWO and a size 16 PMD.
Wally Wing Preparation - My Version

Wally Wing - a great wing for a mayfly dry fly that is both realistic looking and delicate. This is a wing that increases a dry fly's performance on the water, especially on spring creeks.
Wired Zebra Midge Emerger/Pupa - Options
Просмотров 3016 лет назад
Five (5) Zebra Midge emerger/pupa flies are tied in this video using a wired abdomen template and different thorax configurations. Great little midge flies to have in your fly box that can be used anytime of the year.
Baetis Parachute Fly with a twist
Просмотров 2916 лет назад
A great little parachute fly to use as a emerger during a baetis hatch or as an indicator fly for trailing a baetis emerger or cripple. An easy fly to tie.
Wally Wing Spinner - My Version
Просмотров 5386 лет назад
A simple, but effective fly that gets the job done whether tied as a PMD , size 16, or a small Trico, size 20. Also, tie this fly pattern in a burnt orange color for a Rusty Spinner, size 14 and 16. This fly can be purchased at JansToReGift on Etsy. Trailing this spinner behind a large dry fly (hopper or stimulator) is an effective way to fish it.
Braided wire caddis pupa
Просмотров 1956 лет назад
This is a caddis pupa that performs well when it is caddis time on the water. Sizes 14 and 16 have been very effective using this color and size combination. The organza material used as the body cape could be a game changer - Gary LaFontaine's great idea. Suggest practicing braiding (weaving) wire on hook before tying this fly.
Blue Damsel Dry Fly
Просмотров 2586 лет назад
An effective fly on the water, especially after a mayfly hatch or when Blue Damsels are buzzing around. Been good fly for me after a PMD hatch during the summer at Silver Creek in Idaho. This fly is time consuming to tie; however, it is worth the effort.
Ghost Wing Baetis Dry Fly Emerger
Просмотров 2086 лет назад
A great little fly to fish during a Baetis hatch. Will land on the water as a dry fly and then, become an emerger as the fly becomes water logged. Sizes 18 and 20 will bring the best results.
What materials did you use for the legs. Nice pattern
Very nice!! Tight lines🕷️🐜🐛!!!!
Size 17??
17??
That’s great!! Thanks for the info. Tight lines🐜🪰🐛🪲!!!!!!
Beautiful work! Dot you have a web page where you sell these? Thanks.🐜🦗🪰 tight lines!!!!
Un'opera d'arte!
Great demo thanks
I always grab 2 fibres and pull down because when doing a Wally wing fly 9 times out of 10 one of the fibres will break. I just finished tying a wally wing pattern and out of 6 I tied 4 broke one of the pull fibres. I prefer a hackle on my Hatch masters.
See my video - Wally Wing Preparation "My Version". This will help. Thanks for your comment.
Thank You for writing the best book ever on fly tying!!
I just bought a dozen flies from you. I can't believe how much effort said detail is required on each fly.
very nice fly.
Top....
Vise is a Jvice with midge jaws.
Beautiful fly
Very cool fly.
Thanks for the comment, James. Great fly for spring creeks and streams with smooth runs.
Bill, that is a great looking fly. There are some flies that just have that "fish catcher" look....I think that is one of them. Thanks for the video.
I just ran into this video Bill, that is a great looking fly! Thank you for the instruction it was a joy to watch.
professionally👌скажи модель тисков
Sure is fun watching a master make it look so easy.....now to try and imitate that, might take a few hooks but will be worth it.
Great fly im gonna whip some up
Beautiful, delicate, true to the life form!Supa, brother! Fish hard.
I’m falling asleep. Speed it up.
Good night!!!
hackle pliers works wonders to wrap biots.just saying.
💗💖💙💛💚💜🖤
I'm now given to tying all mayfly patterns with the W.Wing; I'm convinced the tying time is worth it as it is the most productive wing design, ever ... the one bite fragility of the Wally Wing, notwithstanding. Excellent version and elegant result, Bill. Thanks for the video.
Excellent pattern. I hope I can master those wings after making a few of those. Best wings I've seen. Very good demo. Thanks
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THESES FLIES! These are by far the absolute best artificial bait I’ve ever used for any fish. I caught fish on the very first cast on two of his flies. My personal best fresh water fish!
How well does it hold up? Is it pretty much a one fish wonder?
Can be, Franz if thr fish swallows the fly or you take the fly out of the fish's mouth with pliers tearing the wing. A torn wally wing hatch master sometimes performs better since the fly takes on characteristics of an emerger or cripple - just what the fish may want. Normally, land 3 to 4 fish on a hatch master, especially if the fly is removed by pinching the wings together by hand and rotating the hook out of the fish's mouth.
@@billmiller1168 thanks for the quick response! They look exceptionally realistic and I've just learned wally wings, so I'm definitely going to tie some up!
@@No_NetMan You will definitely enjoy the performance of a wally wing dry fly on the water. Don't use any floatant on a wally wing hatch master. The duck flank feathers are naturally impregnated with floatant. Additional floatant will only weigh the fly down and negatively impact performance.
@@billmiller1168I can't tell you how much I appreciate this little extra information! I'm sure I'll have a more enjoyable time because of it!
Thanks for the comment, Howard. Good point.
Why wear a dark shirt while tying a dark fly? It makes it so difficult to see material placements. Great method hard to view.
Отличная мушка.
Great tying Bill
Nice.
Love CDC. What kind of vise are you using?
A Damaseal Vise
Nice fly Bill!
Best and simplest explanation and tutorial on a Wally wing, thank you. Do you ever try to pull the " holes" out when the barbs don't lay close? Saw on this one you trimmed off 2 barbs to get rid of most if the hole on the right wing.
Thanks for the kind remarks. Actually, I trimmed the bards to show how to make the wings smaller. Technique could also be used to pull the holes out as you suggested.
Thanks for showing your technic. This is the best and easiest way I have ever seen to tie this fly.
Wonderful! Looks like it could just fly away.
💙💚💜
Thanks
thanks this is a great pattern I will be tieing some of these for sure
I pick up allot of mallard flank feathers these are nice. does color matter that much, or can you dye these with food coloring? Hey thanks for that Video I am impressed. You are a very patient tying master. I am just now getting back into doing some tying after retirement. Hopefully I can catch up with you tying masters.
Color does matter. The wings and abdomen will vary in color depending on what type of mayfly you are tying. I use permanent markers to color the feathers.
Мушка супер.
+1👍🤔👌🤝
Elegant
Very nice tail. Thx for sharing.
Hi Bill Are you going to do a Dragonfly with this pattern video. There are a lot of dragon fly out there but I think you will finally do it right. I have you Subscribed if you go there, please do let me know as well.
Will give the dragon fly a try. Currently, tie an extended body Blue Damsel using a foam body and wings that I have had good success with, especially at Silver Creek in Idaho.
Have your back will look forward to your dragon fly...cheers.
That is a hell of a fly. Well done!
Fantastic .....
Thanks for the comment, Fred. The Wally Wings on a fly not only look great in the box, but also help set up the fly beautifully in the water for a very realistic look. Will also try to tie a Dragonfly with this pattern. Thanks again, Bill.
