Starting VR Perfect Dark from scratch
Hey guys! So I quit using Pavlov and Contractors VR to make separate mods for each level and I decided to start my own VR game so just started a project from scratch in Unreal Engine 5. That means making all the weapons, AI, grab system, inventory system, etc from zero...
Pavlov and Contractors are great, but ofc is not possible to edit some things because the base code is not accessible, and I really want to make the whole game in VR with the Solo missions , Multiplayer, Combat simulator, etc. So it feels more like the original game, and that way you don't have to go back to Pavlov interface to select another mod.

Just got to add, after a few days of playing the Pavlov levels I'm so impressed. I remember playing Perfect Dark on day 1 of release and watching Lawnmower man and thinking what I'd give to play it in VR, so I've literally been living the dream. I can't wait to see how the standalone version develops. Would the N64 decomp help?

This is one of my favorite games but I just don't find it fun to play with the confusing mission design and bad controls. Glad to see it getting some love years later. Hope that Rare/Microsoft doesn't shut this down like they did with Goldeneye projects. It blows my mind that the developers of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark have done so little with the potential. A modern remake of those two games would be like printing money. And putting something like that in VR would guarantee VR taking off again. So many quality games from the 90s and 2000s that really warrant a modern revamp like this. Good work so far. Hope that you are able to port the entire game with some form of co-op. You may want to also port the Goldeneye weapons over since they were technically part of Perfect Dark as an unlock/secret.

Everything about this video looks so much better than the game that was just revealed. The character design, the textures, nearly all of it looks true to the original artwork from the N64 game.

This is amazing. I've always thought the game should be more stealth like MGS rather than FPS action. She actually looks closer to the orignal concept art than I've seen in any of the other games.

As a fan of Perfect Dark, this looks so fucking amazing!! I've played Perfect Dark 64 and Perfect Dark Zero, I'm also stoked for Perfect Dark 3, but I would love to see a Perfect Dark 64 "From the Ground Up" Remake like in the video 💯.
This is incredible! Have you any plans to do more levels? Hell, I almost wanna ask if you have a Discord to perhaps try to collaborate somehow, I've been wanting to make custom levels like this for Pavlov and have yet to take the dive, but I have literal tons and tons of characters and weapons I've already modeled if you'd be interested in doing something original as a sort of scifi pavlov series of weapons and maps inspired by PD, definitely gonna be downloading and trying this later today though!
Hey @Falkrye thank you! I am making the logic from scratch in ue5 so I don't rely on Pavlov hehe, when I have the basics ready to go maybe we could do some collabs for sure! Apreciate the help. Is really fun to make mods for Pavlov or Contractors tho! you should give it a try, can be time consuming lol but still fun

I'm definitely intrigued with learning UE5 as my primary engine of choice for game development once I do make that leap, I've been mostly a hobbyist Blender user for just over a decade now and am always down for some kinda collaboration, might I ask if there's any particular tutors or learning resources you would recommend to break into UE5? ;D

Amazing- but the enemies definitely need reaction animations when being shot.
True! they had already but somehow I was getting errors like them going too fast or going crazy lol maybe because some mod compatibility, so I removed some stuff until I fix it
cool, but i feel a all 3rd person perfect dark game looks kind of weird. this gives me a "resident evil 4" feel for the 3rd person view perspective.
I feel you, I added the option to toggle between first and 3rd but I too prefer it in first person like the classic one. was a fun experiment tho
