The NOT Ultimate Sipsey Wilderness Adventure
I had a grand idea for the ultimate Sipsey backpacking route, but some things don't always go as planned. Still a solid overnight in a beautiful place. A second attempt will be made... with some better planning and way better weather.

👍 might not have been “ultimate “ but it looked like a lot of fun!! I’d trade that trip for several “not ultimate “ trips that I’ve been on ! 😄 one of these days I hope our trails connect ! Would love to walk a mile or two w you !! Take care !
@@michaelpetersonbackpacking6077 very well said. Yeah I hope so too. I’m sure they will
Guadalupe exertion was immense. I enjoyed every minute of this video. I climbed Guadalupe last year in August and will be heading to Big Bend to do the South Rim
@@charleswilliams9757 that’s awesome! Thanks for watching
Not all trips are perfect for sure. Still better than work anyday!!
100% agree with you there my friend. Hey I’ve been really enjoying your Big Bend videos. Hope things are going well for you out there.
@wildwithwindjammer8664 it's pretty awesome here. Beautiful. I'd kill for some clear streams though!
@ I’ve only been there once, but I liked it. If you get the chance, I was really impressed with Guadalupe National Park the time I got out there. Really cool place, and I don’t think it’s that far of a drive, maybe 3 and a half hours or so
Back at it again!
@@Lori-u7d lol absolutely. Hey, you have an instagram or anything?
Great trail to hike. Especially being able to finish with a climb up to Mt Whitney!! Thanx for sharing this great trek. BTW, I just found your channel and watched both episodes, liked and subscribed. I’ll be checking out some of your other hikes too.
@@hope2someday691 thank you! Yes, this trail is a very special one. When I think back on trips I’ve taken and moments that meant a lot to me, The High Sierra keeps coming to mind.

@ next time I’m up there I’m 100% getting more cream ale lol

@@Lori-u7d I very much agree. I also think it’s a great little overnight trip for people looking to get into backpacking.

Can people hunt there?
@@Lori-u7d absolutely. I passed many hunters around the various trailheads and service roads. Even passed one that was in his stand lol, that was a first for me. Just wear orange and you’ll be fine.
Nice! Wind noise sometimes loud but enjoyed the overview and the music!
Yep, the southern parts of Canyonlands Nat'l is spectacular. Especially because there are so much fewer people!

Hidden gem, agreed. North unit is a must see in my book. I feel like it has the most stunning views. The trails are pretty neat. Haven’t spent much time in the South Unit but driven through many times.
@@JAYFEATHERBOONDOCKS I’m definitely coming back for the North Unit. I had my eyes set on the Achenbach loop just couldn’t swing it with my other plans. Beautiful place!
Feeling pretty good watching this from my bed 🛏️ lol. Just feeling the memory of fatigue in my body from similar trips I've done watching you. Great video!
@@katherineedman4857 lol. Its always worth it though haha
You should definitely return to TRNP and find some of the wild horses that live in the park. There are also bison, pronghorns, whitetail and mule deer, elk, and lots of other wildlife. The park has no rules about staying on the trail so you are free to go wherever you want. It's a beautiful place with many things to explore.
@@wildkindphotos7670 I love it! I did see bison and pronghorn on my trip. Truly feels like one of the legitimately wild spaces. I can’t wait to get back.
Pretty badass place. I've got to get up there someday!
@@BackpackingwithBuckley man it was awesome. I really wanted to get up to the North unit and do the Achenbach loop, but I didn’t have the time. Incredible place
Quick questions - did you park at Sylvan lake? Any issues or fees with that? Also, any long water carries along your route? My brother and I are taking almost the same route you took.
@@DavidonEarth Yes and yes lol. I parked at Sylvan Lake, I think it was $20 something like that, and hiked counterclockwise. For water, I started with three liters, topped off along the grizzly bear creek trail for night one. Second day I filled up four liters at Horsethief Lake that lasted me all that day, camp on Harney Trail before Black Elk, and the morning hiking out. That was my largest and longest water carry. I was in the bubble of a strong heat wave when I did the loop. If you have any more questions hit me up. Hope y’all have a good trip.
Happy Belated Birthday🎉 I love that area…hiked it many times and ridden a few of the trails on horseback❤Tim is a great resource for hiking in South Dakota and just an overall awesome guy!! I’m headed back there in a couple weeks and I can’t wait🌲

the newly built butter gap shelter is really nice now; cedar rock mountain is a pluton, ie it was formed by lava coming up and solidifying before it broke the surface, thats why its solid rock/granite; beautiful video of hiking in pisgah nat'l foredt in the fall, few things are better than a long fall hike in the woods
Thanks! Yeah I had a friend recently hike the Art Loeb. The new shelter looked great from what he showed me.
Hey Mississippi! I met you on the shuttle! Great video. It popped up in my feed, and then I realized hey, I know that guy! 😂

What a gorgeous time of year to go! Great video. Love your attitude. My family has done the south to north thru hike of the ALT twice. Incredible challenge! I just did a one-day SOBO thru hike of the trail. Talk about intense! It was a crazy 16 hr day 😅

Thank you! :)
Hey man great video! Beautiful! My fam and I will likely be there in (unfortunately) August. And we want to do a nice multiday backpack trip like you. We are considering what you did or similar. But would need more time to complete. Taking it easy and maybe only doing 8-10 miles max a day, how long might this be? Do you think there are camping spots easy enough to find doing it this way? What spots would be best if we also wanted to use a camp spot as a couple-of-day layover to do some side quest explorations? And do you recommend other hikes or versions of this hike? I suppose we could spend 4-7 days if we can bring enuf food and find enough water. Thanks for any help?
Hey thanks for watching! Honestly, I’d suggest keeping to the Middle Fork. All of the exciting stuff I saw was mainly in the middle fork. There’s tons of wonderful campsites, and including side trips, I’m sure you’d be able to make a few days out of it. Happy trails!
Well done!!
Thanks! Appreciate you watching
Great video! Love watching it.
That’s awesome thank you! :)
Joey doesn't seem to be doing RUclips anymore.
If you’re talking about me, I’ll be back lol. Small hiatus while I had some stuff going with my kiddo. The woods are calling though.
No, I was referring to Joey Coconino. I don't know what's going on with him. Probably working and no time for videography. I know he was in military for a while but don't know what type of cash gigs he had outside of RUclips, which is not a sizable or sufficient income...@@wildwithwindjammer8664

Thanks for the video. I'm planning on hiking this loop in April next year. What month did you hike the loop? Should I be concern with the water crossings in April?
I hiked it in May. Highest I crossed was probably mid thigh (I am a short dude though lol). I’d definitely suggesting keeping an eye on the weather in the time leading up to your trip. I would imagine a lot of rain can swell that area up greatly.
The Alum Cave a trail is the most beautiful with amazing views. I’m gonna take The Rainbow Trail up next. It looks just as beautiful. I can’t wait. Those views look amazing.
I agree Alum Cave is definitely the best route up in terms of overall experience. Bullhead was a fun alternative though. Thanks for watching!
Loved your videos! I live in CA but am also from MS. Where in MS are you from? Also, what month did you do the HST? I hear we are going to have another wet year and am trying to plan to do this in 2024 at a time when there will be the least snow/cold weather possible....unsure of when to plan for!
