I am a beauty loving below the knee amputee.
I love to learn new things and always enjoy a good laugh. I am a wife, mum of two adults (term used loosely), Software Developer, Qualified Nail Technician (on hiatus) and currently studying Psychology with Massey University. I am working through my amputation rehab and have decided to share what life brings me with my new challenges.

I have had a massive few months but it really culminated over the past three weeks, starting with my sons wedding, this video is all about my take on the day.

I was so nervous before this holiday. Worried about what might go wrong and if I would keep up with everything. There were loads of firsts and stuff to solve but I got there and pulled off a super busy 5 days away. Its been over a week since I posted a video and its been super busy, with two foster puppies as well as our 3 dogs and 3 cats. I have been increasing my hours working and even did someone's make up in the weekend and they didn't look like a clown and even went out in public! And I have been working on an assignment for Uni and doing my Amputation Rehab so yeah...watch to catch up. Thank you so ...

I seem to have alot of limb center visits which consist of taking a cast of my limb, they build a socket, we fuss with the socket and foot and I go home and shrink out of the socket ...and repeat. 😂 This is very normal for the first year I am told. Today we finally found the car we wanted to trade my older car in for! It's a Fiat Abarth 595 Competizione and is absolutely fun to drive.

both parts of the Video are pretty cool! Off course its super you are able to walk on a comfortable Prosthesis! The car you bought is a very very nice ones! I know what I speak, here in Germany we don't have speed limit at some parts of ouer highways!!!!!!!

How much does one those cost?
The sockets? I'm not sure to be honest. The country I live in has a government funded accident insurance company and they cover the costs.

This was very interesting and probably the most introspective and analytical of any similar telling of the amputation story that I have read. You have a different perspective than most and, as such, we learn more from your experience. Well done. I'm a mechanical engineer and most interested in prosthetics and the human/mechanical interface. With the work in robotics, as well, there are huge strides being made on that front, I think. However, I don't think most of that work helps the BK amputee very much. Anyway, thank you, and I hope to read more of your story as you traverse the road to the new normal...and I have confidence you will explain and define that new normal as well as you have presented your journey, so far, in this video.
Thank you for such great feedback. I'd love to learn more about prosthetics myself and tend to pick my specialists brain. I think it's a great time to live in.
@@kirstybowden3388 You're very kind in your reply. Well, like Dickens said, "It's the best of times and the worst of times..." but I do think the outlook for actualizing the "6 Million Dollar Man/Woman" is very positive. So from that standpoint it is truly the best of times.

While I'm not an amputee per se, but I've had a bone disappear due to bone infection. So yeah, I now have 9 functional toes and a boneless toe. It's weird to see that one toe not moving at all while I wiggle my toes. And this month, I've been feeling phantom sensations on the boneless part of my foot. Like constant electric shocks. But most of the time, I pay no attention to it.
That definitely sounds like phantom pain. Can you talk to a doctor about getting help with it?
@@kirstybowden3388 nah, not gonna bother with it. I've come to actually enjoy these phantom sensations. Only downside is my boneless toe looks very unsightly. Like my toes are up here but baby toe is slouching all the way down there.
General anesthesia takes at least a week to clear from your body. That is one of the most difficult things right after surgeries. I had not heard about the option of a spinal and sedation. Gonna have to add that to my research.
I think sometimes it's takes even longer to leave your body when you're not up and about too much to start with. I hope the research is helpful for you!

At the moment it's a combination of wheelchair and crutches with a prosthetic. Just easing back into things. Thanks for the great feedback and question.
