    FWIW, the gameplay of this is quite similar in style to the Exit board games. One of the main features is that absolutely everything about the game is fair game for clues. That's true in both the board game, where you may have to look at the game box itself or rulebook for clues, and this game, where the UI and things you can do with it are part of the clues. I never really understood when people complain that this breaks immersion, because using all the game materials is one of the explicit goals of the series. The three clues system is also the same as in the board game, except they have more space to write things. Regarding puzzles, the ones in this game are somewhat difficult (having played a dozen Exit games, both physical and digital), though as I often say, your first Exit game is probably your worst, as you come to grips with how the puzzles are designed. I do agree that they could have a bit more interactivity in terms of locations since they are not restricted by the physical format that usually only has a deck of cards and some cardboard pieces, but overall these puzzles are very similar in feel to the board game version. Being able to combine inventory would have been nice, although as implemented, each item is just a clue and is discarded when you complete a riddle, just like in the board game.

    As someone who has been playing Kingdom in 21:9 for years, it feels insanely limiting to see the game that way. Especially when you're playing zoomed in as close as you are.

    • @chaos-channelgames
      @chaos-channelgames 11 месяцев назад

      If you want more overview to react earlier, zooming out might be a very good choice. Still, I just like this view better generally, because it drags me more into the game and it feels more like the view of the chosen one - and of cause explaining things seems better close than far away, as well.

    • @Chuck_vs._The_Comment_Section

      @@chaos-channelgames So, do you always play RTS games zoomed in close because it "drags you more into the game"?

    • @chaos-channelgames
      @chaos-channelgames 11 месяцев назад

      This is not about the genre - I play Kingdom like this. I mean, you can´t compare this to AoE in respect of a RTS game, it´s more relaxed than Age and there is no micromanagemrnt and multiple troops to controll, so the basic gameplay does not really demand to be zoomed out. For me this is much more relaxing as Age and therefore I like the immersion more.

    • @chaos-channelgames
      @chaos-channelgames 11 месяцев назад

      Good point, the price is not mentioned there at the moment - but the DLC got it´s own Steam-page, that´s why it is likely to be a paid DLC. Free DLC don´t have their own page. And the rest is integrated similar to the Age2-DLCs that are paid - if I buy the Rome one, I have Rome (or Dukes or India). I don´t know how it is for ranked games, but this might work just the same. I personally think, they will release it in October for the 2nd anniversary of the game, so there is only one month to wait.

    At first I didn't play AOE4 because I could not customize my hotkeys. But now I can and it feels good to play it. Still, playing campaigns and skirmish is not the greatest experience. Campaign is boring and skirmish AI is really weak. So to get the most out of this game I believe it's better to play with friends or ranked. About the things you find strange, that make you feel "not at home", I believe they had to do stuff differently from aoe2, otherwise there would be no point in buying this game. I started to like the age up system after understanding a bit about what the buildings were supposed to do. It also makes sense to select a villager, since the age up requires to build something now. Totally agree about the bell feature. It missing affects beginners harshly. It's just hard to control the villagers to safety when you are still learning the game. About the stone walls, I don't hate it, I don't like it... it's just different. About the way scouts work, I think it makes me kinda make 2 scouts most games, one for checking the enemy, one for close scouting and getting sheep. Overall, I enjoy it. But it's a different game, so you'll not "feel at home" unless you accept things are different and play it for a while to learn and get used to it. Ask some friends to play 1v1 our 2v2 with you. Maybe you like it, maybe you don't, but it's certainly better than playing campaign or vs AI.

    • @chaos-channelgames

      Thanks for the comment. Good idea with the 2 scout option. I will soon play it with friends to check if this is more fun than the campaigns are.

    Good review. Think too it's weird MS didn't just make a major update for AoE I DE (with AoE II DE Engine in the background for unified maintenance). Crucial points for me: 1.) Integration: The final integration feels odd. AoE I is a whole own game and should not only be a game mode for AoE II. Disappointing for AoE I community. 2.) Coexisting: Now AoE I DE and AoE II DE with RoR are strangely co-existing with two communites. I'm active AoE I DE player and me and other lobby room players feel the lack of proper maintenance very frustrating, lobby games in AoE I DE crashing very often. 3.) Graphics: Another sad point for me is that - in my opinion - the very beautiful crafted graphics of AoE I DE looks actually better than RoR. Second looks too much like AoE II and lacks the feeling of AoE I. I do not understand why MS didn't just use the already lovely remastered 4K-graphics as skin over the AoE II DE engine. Hope in the future MS listens to the community and provide a standalone AoE I game again as separate title next to AoE II, III and IV.

    It's a good idea the problem is that Microsoft doesn't have a good anti-cheat system. Doesn't have a ladder system like Battlenet yet. They lack patience also they need to host tournaments if they really want this game to another level. Invite Koreans, Chinese and Vietnamese to play tournaments and it will live for like 15 years more.

    I feel like if they just went further with changes like you said at the end of the video, it would just be age of empires 2 with an age of empires 1 skin which i am strongly against. I love age of empires 1, and the gameplay changes they made here were good and enough to make age of empires 1 much more playable but kept things faithful to keep the gameplay from being completely unrecognizable from the original. I think the problem with the dlc was how buggy it was and the lack of original campaigns. But luckily they are adding those in too. I still think they should have had a discount for age of empires 1 DE owners though.

    I dunno, but for the price of a burger these days - just to put things in relative perspective - much of the current online agonizing with regards to this DLC comes across as pretty lame to me. Overall, it's been good value for money in terms of getting a new civ to play, along with providing an interesting reboot of the much beloved (and hated in some respects; horrendously bugged pathfinding, for example) original that incorporates many features from AOE II DE. While the somewhat redundant development path is a bit curious in this instance, if nothing else, it's good to know that Microsoft is still devoting resources to the AOE game franchise as an ongoing venture, which is more than can be said about most long-deceased RTS games. Perhaps its aim was targeted more at casual fans (both new and old) of the game rather than the still sizeable corps of diehard fanatics that play it competitively online.
