I 3D printed an iMac Case
In this video I attempt to build a 3D Printed iMac Case to be able to take it on a journey across the Atlantic. This adventure consisted of measuring the Imac case with a mechanical Jig and then designing the case in SolidWorks. After heavy refinement, I can 3D print the case in peices, assemble it, and take it as my chegged bag. I focused on a sleek erganomic design, that protects the case while allowing the iMac to still be used, similar to an iphone case.
The 3D printer Im using is an upgraded P1P which I have made a video about.
I also have a video making the desk which I used in this video.

I would recommend getting a jigsaw, even a handheld one, and getting rid of the cheese grater. Screw on a fan grill to be safe, and you should have much less air restriction and maybe noise.
Traveling to America indefinitely from the UK whyyyyyyy?! But also I'm not sure if you're aware that a lot of calipers have Data ports you could have collected the data electronically
That’s a very good point, if I had known I definitely would have gotten a digital output one like the absolute mituoyo. I have a big project coming up that I’m going to do in North America :)
You sold your 3D printer?
Never :0 unlike the iMac Its a smaller standard size that can be shipped via postal plane for 100$.
Dude, just put a couple of pillows :)
But then I wouldn’t have a cool project to design!
@ yea you’re right, I also learned a couple things, thanks for the video!
the age old tale of finding out you need to use surfaces too late... been there
Haha I will try anything just to avoid surface modelling xd
Another sick video mate, loving the time-lapses and the realness you showed by including the low moments. Good luck in the states, looking forward to van life content!!! 🚐 🇺🇸
Thanks Mikey for the day 1 support 🙌 Will get some some sick vanlife timelapse’s as promised :))
I like the video, but why not buy a used box?
I wanted a more reusable practical solution as I go back and forth a lot
Im at 2:00 Why wasn't it possible to use the original apple packaging?
Packaging only survived the first couple trips in the suitcase before crumbling over time so I wanted a more long lasting solution!
That's one hell of a job! GG and great Video!
Thanks so much!
I know you are just finding excuse to print a case for your iMac. I often do the same with my 3d printer. Since bubble wrap exist, you can just use that.
Yeah any excuse to print something! I’ll let you in on a secret I’ve actually been using bubble wrap for years to transport it back and forth it just gets super tedious!
I like the edge case design. I would have also gone for a hard cover to then snap over the screen. Giving it space to hover over the screen and extra thick so it hopefully wouldn't crush in. Also steel dowels are totally underrated. So much better than the filament pieces people love to use for hinges etc.
Thanks! I agree with the snap fit I might try to do this in the future! Yes I’m still surprised most people don’t use steel dowels, I think the hobby is maturing still but eventually it will get there!
How are you making these floating spnning 3d graphics really awesome.
Hey. I have a pro tip for you: Save your files on a stick or drive or icloud, go to the US, buy one there, and sell it when you go home. But your print looks awsome!
Good idea not sure if it’s worth it as the price difference isn’t as big as it used to be. Thanks a lot!
Crazy stuff! Got a new subscriber. ;)
Awesome thank you :)
But more importantly, how did you ship your printer?
Shipped it via postal plane! It fits in the largest standard shipping box for 100$. Unlike the IMac which is too wide and would of cost $300+ to ship.
That's a great experience despite all ups and downs. The signature humour is unbeatable as always)
That’s very nice of you thanks so much for the support!
Why'd you move back? You from NY originally?
I have a big project planed in North America :)
Next stop a jig making jig surely?
A jig is always the next stop!
Okay so I don’t usually comment but seeing like 70 views on this was crazy, honestly such a detailed video and I want to say keep going because you’ll get the appreciation deserve if you perceiver. Had a great time watching, thanks a lot :) Also, if you have any tips on how to improve cad skills then lmk because I’m a student learning design and I’d say I’m like mediocre at best and I want to improve but my teachers focus on more practical aspects rather than cad
Hey thanks so much for the supportive comment! I’ll keep pushing and creating more videos :) As for CAD I recommend a channel called CAD CAM tutorial, the mans a CAD Wizard, he even helped me with this video and surface modelling!
Thumbs up for the patience!
👍👍 Thanks!
The time and attention you put into storytelling is really top tier, I love watching these videos !
Thank you Tara for the support xxx
Have you noticed any decline in print quality, such as surface lines or overhang performance, after switching to harder steel extruder gears?
No not particularly :)
Im so happy I went ahead and got the P1S right away. Swapping the extruder and cogs took about 10 mins and I was ready to rock PA. Must say though, having it with LED and seethrough sides is very very cool.
Yes definitely the right decision! I bought my P1P when I didn’t have the budget but the P1S is definitely worth it for the long term :)
If you know you want print material like this, why you dont put more $ and dont buy X1C model directly???
LMAO @ the pickup code in the first 30 seconds. 42069

Thank you for the support!
Had me dying with the fans 😂
Good editing!
Omg... There is "engineer" in your name and you drill holes like the first human xD. And i did´not want to say anything about your "electric" skills :P Protipp: Put that vacuumed bag of nylon in another airtight container. Ikea Box 10,6l for example. The transparent bags can let some moisture in over the time. This is fine for ABS/PETG and so on. For Nylon better use the silver bags with aluminium coating.
Hey, awesome video, but please turn the volume up and give to your voice a little energy I know it may be hard at first, but it will help a lot when watching a video.
Dude, make more vids because I wanna binge your stuff but i'm left wanting! Great videos, happy the holy algo introduced me to your stuff 🤘
Dude, you rule! Happy to discover this channel, and great explanation of why nylon warps off of the bed. (I've been humble bragging 3d printing nylon for years now... you do it much more good than me) // Edit: Dude, I love that somebody else uses the phrase "Little Timmy"
Came here from the old WoT Blitz videos!
Is this possible to be done to the A1?
are you using a special tip for the Pinecil soldering iron?
Or you could have paid $150 for a perfect p1s upgrade kit, but where’s the fun in that?
Great video, but you really really need to fix your audio levels. Your volume is far less than the average youtube video - I tested 8 other videos for a baseline, and your volume is at 11% of that baseline.
ew is this canada? an amazon delivery locker at a gas station is ghetto af.
Nylon is nowhere near from being the "Toughest"..... PEEK is superior in basically...... everything... Let's not even talk about, PEEK-GF or PEEK-CF... "MAINTAINING MODULUS To further illustrate the high temperature capability of PEEK, Figure 5 shows how the flexural moduli (bending stiffness) of nylon 6/6 and PEEK vary as a function of temperature. Nylon, like many common plastics, loses much of its mechanical stiffness once the material is heated to 176 F°. In contrast, PEEK maintains most of its stiffness up to temperatures approaching 300 F°. PEEK's ability to maintain stiffness at elevated temperatures is one of the reasons that it is so often specified for high temperature applications in the aerospace, semiconductor, medical, and food processing industries. The stiffness of PEEK can be greatly increased by adding various fillers and reinforcements including glass or carbon fibers. Figure 6 shows the flexural modulus of unfilled PEEK as well as 30% glass fiber filled PEEK and 30% carbon fiber filled PEEK at various temperatures. As shown on the graph, the addition of glass reinforcement essentially doubles the stiffness of PEEK and the addition of carbon fiber more than quadruples the stiffness of the material. In fact, the room temperature flexural modulus of carbon fiber filled PEEK is 3300 kpsi, one of the highest values of any commercially available thermoplastic." Alternative title:turning my p1p into a x1c
"I may have f⁰cked up slightly" 😂 great video my guy
I don’t think so guy it’s actually Z Polymers Tullomer
What was the cause of the stringing on the x1c printed parts?
This looks like such a fun project it almost makes me want to buy a P1P instead of a P1S just so I can enjoy the build. Great video. 👍
PLEASE use PPE for dremeling composites! CF become airborn when sanding. Gloves and facemask. The fibres constantly fall off even the normal filament, and they never go away.
The part of the close up with the filament going through the print head was playing as I was away from my PC and i assumed my print failed/printer was sparking. I panicked .
OR you could have just bought a p1s
Great video, love the paver idea.
