Mont Chauve
Просмотров 28710 месяцев назад
A quiet and rewarding out-and-back climb just above Nice, Mont Chauve’s south-facing slopes provide ideal grounds for some mild winter climbing. There's nothing overly demanding about the gradients but continuous glimpses of the hill and switchbacks above you threaten to induce some serious lassitude if your legs aren’t feeling top-notch (mine weren’t). great video as per usual. the other cyclist are trying their hardest not to stop whilst Illi is just casually flying bye.
21:15 those guys wondering who the hell just came flying past them 😂 38:05 those hikers did know better 😅 39:20 Brave of you for just getting back on your bike, I would’ve been afraid of mounting my bike after stopping on such a steep gradient
17:25 that light on your back tire makes it look like you ride with a Zwift bike 😅
You have to try in Mount Grappa the climbing from Cismon to the top ( 21% ) or the goat jump from the south side of Mount Grappa more east from Campocroce ( the climbing you did in the video )
Chapeau on that last climb 🫡
Bolzano and Monte Varagna look amazing! Highlight was "this corner wasn't actually that bad" while the display says 38%. Fantastic efforts up some fantastic climbs there, Welsh gradients at continental lengths is truly terrifying and that's an inspirational haul of QOMs. With content like this, this has got to be the best cycling channel on RUclips these days.
I thought you might like the look of those ones! Does make me wonder how many other similarly great/crazy climbs there are that are overshadowed by the super famous ones in these popular cycling destinations. Thanks so much, glad I was able to create something watchable despite my usual lack of forethought during the trip😄Great to see you’re back riding -- been missing your videos!
Incredible work, your strength of character is inspirational
Thank you so much!
The glamorous Stelvio finale 🤣
Dear lord, watching you bury the gen-pop on the way up is surreal.
damn 🔥
I am truly impressed! Thanks for the video!
Illi, if you can't find enough hill climb races in Europe, spend some time in the US: Mt Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hill Climb, Mt Baker Hill Climb, Blue Sky Hill Climb, Snowbird Hill Climb, Race to the top of Vermont.... There are Gran Fondo style events on some big peaks tool, like Mt. Lemmon and Mt. Mitchell. Plan a trip to take in a bunch of them.
I've heard a bit about some of the events in the US -- turns out there are even more than I thought! Would love to make a big trip out of it one day if I manage to sort out the logistics
Yesssss!
34:17 Van Vleuten in pink saying goodbye to her QOM
Will text you this week Illi!
Wow, so much information. Thanks….
Very cool
No snow! Summer only please 😂Which trip was better, les Alpes françaises or the big Italian climbs?
Haha you can say that again! Ah far too difficult to choose...Italy was really exciting as everything was brand new but at the same time it was cool to explore some of the quieter climbs in France. Both were pretty fantastic!
@@illicgardner looking forward to the next video; maybe a trip to the Spanish mountains would round it out 😬⛰️🚠🚵
You are a total champ and a gem!! keep up the good work!
Dad is MVP
So nice sharing between your father and you, and how passioned you are :-)))
When I younger and racing I went looking for the climbs loved the. Thanks for taking me back to those days 👍it’s funny seeing the faces on the cyclists you pass ( who the hell is that )🤣🤣
Nice video thanks, impressive climbing. Funny you got flagged, guess someone thought you were on an ebike? Kudos to your dad you're lucky to have that level of support.
The quality of editing here! Feels like I'm watching a Netflix short film!! LoVe iT 🤩
A rear view pov is quality? It's like the worst shot while riding
That last climb looks brutal!
I did a few of these. But on the HT. Drivers are too crazy in Italy.
Did Pico do Areiro in 2003 in February (a time of the year when legs are a bit wobbly) on a crappy hired mountain bike. It was tough!! There is some gorgeous mountain walking as well on the island. One of the famous tourist attractions on the steep roads descending into Funchal is to be guided on wheeled baskets down to the coast. It's a fairly hairy experience - I prefer disc brakes!!
Looking forward to riding out there next week. Defo taking my 11-34 😅
4th against the lads who sat on hehe. Good work! Get a cat eye bm45. It will be a game changer for you.
Finishing ahead of Pogacar on the Strava leaderboard has got to be extremely satisfying! Also, Strava needs to update their rating formula. It rates this Cat 2. That's absurd. This looks way harder than plenty of hc climbs.
Great video!
Great video, cant wait for St Jean de Maurienne in June! Madeleine is a vicious col like Ventoux.
Great vid.
Been saving this until I was in a state to actually enjoy it and it did not disappoint 😍 what a cracking video, a proper tribute to a wonderful part of the world, well beyond just the headline climbs and Instagram style snapshots. Thanks for sharing this, I'm in a bit of a funny mindset thinking about cycling at the moment but this was a cracking reminder of everything I love about it.
Thanks so much Nick, really glad I was able to capture that somewhat! Hope your recovery is going well, can't imagine how frustrating it all must be. But the hills aren't going anywhere and (as I'm sure you're probably sick of hearing) you'll be back before you know it!
Can you elaborate in the amount and type of training that you do to be in this kind of shape?
Absolutely amazing video! Thanks for creating it and writing the Guide - and wow, you make climbing look like so easy! 🙂 I started climbing in the eastern alps and work my way up to the west and this is so helpful! 🚵♂😍 One question: How do you create the overlays (cadence, heartrate, power etc)? Is this done with Garmin Virb? (thx!)
Thank you so much! I use Garmin Virb Edit although it can be a bit difficult to use as it's no longer maintained. For now it just about does the job but may have to look for alternatives in the future!
Very cool rides and video! You hammer past people left & right - chapeau! The tunnels were bonkers! It's cool you did the HR Alpes '22; I did the HR Alpes '23 version & got destroyed. It was amazing to see the familiar climbs along with the lesser known ones too. What's your day job? I need a gig that lets me go to Europe and cycle more 😁
Thanks so much! The tunnels were certainly more than I'd bargained for 😨Last year's HR looked brutal, some massive days there! I'm a VFX compositor -- hopefully my actual work is to a higher standard than these videos though 😆Super appreciative of the ability to be remote/abroad (thank you Starlink!)
Excellent, well done, LMAO at the guy on your wheel swinging like a barn door in a Gale when your wheel is rock steady 😂, we were there at the same time fir the Marmotte, I think we even stayed at the same site, I’m surprised you didn’t hear us, my friend is by far the loudest thing there, first thing one hears in the morning and last thing you hear in the evening 🙈 Great effort, well done
Thanks so much! Haha we had a group of partying cyclists next door for a few days who probably drowned out any other noise at the site 😆 hope you had a good Marmotte, thanks again!
So strong you are on climbs 🎉❤
Coming 4th was very impressive a natural born climber as was I many moons ago. Love the videos 👍
that cheese outro made me laugh out load not gonna lie. great vid
You make an epic series of rides look easy 😊
Nice surprise
NUL-
Was looking at strava stats and stumbled along into the channel. Legend!🎉
great video and very informative.. very helpful as I'm planning to visit Nice this month.. any suggestion on where to stay so as to enjoy most of the climbs u have ridden & filmed
Why are you cycling backwards?
Great video. In Zwift I think you can put difficulty up to 100% and as far as I know it will make it feel as close as possible to the real climb.
Love your videos but even better when you run commentary either it
shameless attack from #11064 after he let u do all the work in the headwind on that terrible straight line! but his yoyo-ing behind u was pretty entertaining to watch tbh, so i guess he s forgiven :)
