    Alexander was ridiculously powerful. Carried that Colorado defender from the 20 yard line deep into the endzone without really losing any stride.

    these were both really really goods back, but they were not top tier backs. nebraska had the best o line and the best running attack, but coach solich was never able to recruit a top tier running back. i dont know why, he always had very good, very tough backs, but not top tier. his gback was always his best runner. i still dont think we should have fired him or polini. things just kept getting worse.

    • @jeffreyk5734
      @jeffreyk5734 Год назад

      Solich bounced back from the sub-par 7-6 2002 season in 2003 with the 9-3 record and wasn't even allowed to coach in the bowl game. Damn we would have been good in 2004 too. We had former Nebraska All American Linebacker Jimmy Williams coaching the LB's. Marvin Sanders as secondary coach both in their first year in 2003 and Bo and Karl Pelini were in their first years too on the staff. We led the nation in sacks and interceptions in 2003. Stupid athletic director Steve Peterson just through it all away. Hired Bill Callihan and we struggled to win 4 games in 2004. I think we might have been back in the conference title hunt at the very least. Nebraska could have won a couple National titles under Solich. The 1999 and 2000 teams would have beaten any team in the nation at the end of the year. Solich was fired for the collapse at the end of the 2001 season and the terrible by the standards of the day 2002 campaign. That team was damn good in 2003 and the Nucules was in place to return to the top in another season or two.

    2 underrated Husker I-backs. Buckhalter had a long but injury filled NFL career.

    • @seanmacmillan6
      @seanmacmillan6 5 лет назад

      Raymond Johnson I played football with Buckhalter at a Mississippi North vs South allstar game. We snuck out at night and had a cold beer with a few others. The North won the game but that was the only thing that sucked!... blessing to ya

    • @jeffreyk5734
      @jeffreyk5734 Год назад

      The knock on Buckhalter was always that he couldn't break the big one to the house. Wasn't fast enough. Then at the NFL combine he turned out to be one of the 4 or 5 the fastest backs there. So that notion was totally false. Especially at 225-230 he surprised the scouts.

    They would have had to have had a sixth star to rate Ahman as a recruit

    • @jeffreyk5734
      @jeffreyk5734 3 месяца назад

      The thing that is amazing is that Green wasn't even the leading Rusher on the team at Omaha Central as a High school Senior in 1994. Damion Morrow was. Green had over 1500 yards, but Morrow rushed for nearly 2000. I think went over 2000 in the state playoffs. I never really understood why Nebraska didn't recruit Morrow. He was damn impressive. It's hard to believe that Ahman never made a single first team All American team after the 1997 season. If he would have returned in 1998, he would have been one of the leading if not the leading Heisman Canidate. It's also noteworthy to think that Green was kind of in the dog house with fans in 1996 as a Sophomore. Injuries (Turf Toe and ankle) slowed him and he had trouble with fumbling. Many people thought that True freshman DeAngelo Evans should have replaced him as the starter as the season wore on. I remember reading comments like "DeAngelo hits the holes allot quicker Green". Who knows how good Evens might have been if he hadn't torn both hamstrings. That's the reason Mike Rozier took over as the starter from Roger Craig in 1981. Craig kept fumbling the football. Mike didn't start until the 5th game of his Sophomore year against Colorado. Then he and Roger had virtually the exact same numbers in that game. Craig had another fumble in the clear on his way to the endzone after juking several guys. That would have been one of his greatest runs. Rozier had a phenomenal run where he broke about 7 tackles down the sideline, cut back at about the 20 and outran another guy to the endzone. About 72 yards I believe it was. However, another officially overruled the one that signaled touchdown as Rozier had stepped out of bounds after a 33 yard gain. If that had counted it would have been one of Mike's finest runs, and he did it in his first ever start. You can find the footage online in an episode of "Cornhusker Football". The only episode of that series that I could find on RUclips.
