You have very eclectic taste in films!! That Mission: Impossible package is really nice. I remember watching the seasons with Landau and Bain but haven't see them in decades. I need to think about choosing a soundbar or some sort of sound system. That Vizio may be what I need. Happy New Year!
Thanks very much for the comment g1951 and hope you and your family had a Merry Christmas. Italy, France, and Japan are my favorites in the foreign film market, and Germany and Hong Kong are pretty great too. Only Bollywood and Eastern European Cinema have never caught my interest. My 4K tv is also a Vizio brand so it seemed silly to not have a soundbar from them too. Definitely pick one up if you find a good deal. Happy New Year.
Hi Steven, One of my fav movies in "Raiders of the lost Ark" & still my fav in the series, never seen that movie "The Good, the bad & the ugly" 🤔🤣looks good though, giallo movies i got to be in the right mood for but "The Bird with the crystal plumage" is one of my favourites in the sub genre, love Tomas Milian & he was a total beast in "Almost human" I almost pulled the trigger on that set of "Waterloo" but its a movie i"ve never seen before, we do have "Cemetery without crosses" on our next episode on the Westerns For Life Podcast, i like the movie but do prefer others over it, Sergio Leone would be my fav director without a doubt !!!
Hi Steven, Hoping you"ve had a great Christmas, Radiance is a upcoming label that i respect their work but i tend to pick & choose my titles that i want, that"s a impressive box set of the tv series "Mission Impossible" a series that i can"t recall watching on a regular basis on UK tv & i"ve also got myself a soundbar set which i"m looking forward to getting fully set up, i messaged you the other day in regards to your package my friend, speak soon.
Thanks very much Carlos, and hope your Christmas was festive and fun as well. Radiance is quickly rising in my Top 5 and Top 10 of favorite companies. I only get the titles that interest me too, and luckily Radiance does a lot of stuff I'm interested in. It took me a while to get into Mission Impossible TV series but I'm glad to enjoy the show. The audio on my 4K Tv was decent already, but the soundbar will greatly enhance my disc viewings. Almost done getting my half of the trade to you done, will keep you updated.
Hey, I like your man cave set-up! The fridge is a cool idea. I remember years ago when I started using a spare bedroom as an upstairs TV room/retreat, I considered getting a mini fridge so I wouldn't have to keep running up and down the stairs. But as the room started to evolve into a movie room, there was no room for it. Nowadays the room is so completely full, there's no extra room for anything! Your Christmas decorations are all very nice. Is your man cave a spare bedroom, or is it a basement room? I may decide to make a change and use a downstairs bedroom instead. But I'm so lazy, it may never happen. Merry Christmas!!
Thanks very much for the comment @grey1951, glad you enjoyed it. The Movie Man Cave is a 1st floor 2nd bedroom the previous owner used as an office. As I'm on the Autistic Spectrum I do still live with my parents and when we moved into the house in 2019, I asked for the 1st floor spare room. I love having the space, and if you get the opportunity to use that extra room for a Movie Cave, definitely do it. My first ever video was a tour of the room I recommend checking out to see the room in full. There is a closet in the room I plan on turning into extra shelf space soon. Take care buddy and hope you're doing well. Happy Holidays to you.
Great video! Thanks so much for joining in and thank for the shoutout!! You have some interesting responses here. I must admit I'm not nearly as familiar with foreign films as you are, so there are many titles I really can't comment on. I like your choices for favorite film and favorite script. Wages of Fear is an amazing movie. Francesco Rosi is a director I haven't heard of, but he sounds intriguing. As for your long movie choices, I'm not a huge fan of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, and I still haven't watched my copy of The Leopard. Your choice of North By Northwest surprised me a little, but I can see your point. On the Waterfront is a great film, but I can't call it a favorite. I'll watch it again someday. Kiss Me Kate is a wonderful choice to cure a bad day. I love Scorsese's early work much more than his recent work, although there are still some of his films I haven't seen. I'm afraid I'm not a fan of Tarantino, but I do think he's shown a lot of creativity. The one film of his that I still own is Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Thanks again for doing the quiz!
Enjoyable video, you've given me a lot of films I want to watch. Gonna start getting westerns as my knowledge of them isn't good and rated the ones I have seen. Fantastic taste in films, thank you on the tag. Gonna try and get a response done, when I get a chance
Thanks very much for viewing and commenting Tim, very much appreciated. You're in for real treats with a lot of the films I picked, especially the French ones. Some of the films I'm thinking only have US/Canada releases, so you may want to invest in an All-Region Blu Ray player, which I do highly recommend. The Jess Franco title is unfortunately out of print, but I think you can find it on secondary markets still. Take care my friend, and speak to you soon.
Loads of great choices there, especially some fascinating euro movies. Bob's Vintage Movies also chose Wages Of Fear as best script (I chose Back To The Future). I'm really interested to track down Cemetery Without Crosses. Toshiro Mifune in Yojimbo is a perfect choice for protagonist. North By Northwest is my 5th favourite film of all time, so you lose 1 point for that one 😂. Great stuff though 👍
Thanks very much for watching and commenting. I wanted to have a good mixture of films to talk about and mention. I kicked myself afterwards for not including Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Cercle Rouge as a double to Best Script as it honestly was the height of his prowess. Cemetery Without Crosses is one of the best SW's that wasn't made by Leone or Corbucci, I believe the Arrow edition is still available. Nothing wrong with a little difference of opinion with North by Northwest, I respect that. I don't really hate it actually I just find it frustrating that Hitchcock really believed no one would care about why James Mason was doing what he did. Take care and speak to you soon.
This was one of my favourite first watches earlier in the year. A superb film. Well worth giving this film more praise. I've not seen the upgraded version, so hope to pick it up at some point. 👍
Thanks very much for commenting, the upgrade is definitely worth it.
Stephen that's Rachel I just subscribed and saw your beautiful tribute to Robert's Birthday that"s wonderful how you give amazing details about his best performance, to me also it's my favourite western even if I discovered him through Star Black when I was very young thank you so much
@robertwoodstribute5472 Merci beaucoup Rachel, for both the comment and subscribing. All my videos I try to keep fresh and interesting, but this one for Robert Woods felt extra special for a reason I still can't figure out, I just felt this extra sense of pride and accomplishment with how it turned out. I hope you enjoy my other content just as much. Take care and hope you're well.
Hi Stephen, I never do the spag fest ☹️as I’ve never joined the Spaghetti western database even though I do use the site 😎. I should join the forum with you guys, it’s a decent 70’s spaghetti western & somewhat of a different themed movie but enjoyable as I’ve always enjoyed anything that Tomas Milian is in, “Four of the Apocalypse” isn’t a stone cold classic in the sub genre in my opinion like previous movies. Worth watching indeed, excellent job on this video.
You'd like the SWDb forum a lot Carlos, it's a pretty cool space and a lot of nice guys to chat with. I'm happy to have finally seen Four of the Apocalypse, it's a pretty good movie, but one you kind of have to be in the mood for as it is a pretty somber SW. Milian is definitely the best part of the film, even his role is kind of brief. Take care and speak to you soon buddy.
Really interesting as I don't know a lot about westerns so good to get some information, good video matey
Hi there Tim, and thanks very much for watching and commenting. The Italian Westerns are very fun watches and there's quite a lot of hidden gems within the genre. I would recommend starting with the Sergio Leone ones: Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and Once Upon a Time in the West. Most fans of the genre began with these titles, and then started seeking out the others I talk about in the video. Take care and speak to you soon.
@tvnash Thank you and appreciate the recommendations matey
Fantastic Spaghetti Western !. One of my favorites ;)
Good commentaries on both films. Although I haven't seen either of them, the titles are familiar. And I think I've seen a trailer for the Fulci film. I admit I tend to avoid Fulci because I've heard so much about his love of violence and gore. But the Barbara Shelley film sounds like something I would like. I considered getting a region free player, but so far haven't done it. Maybe at some point in the future, I'll change my mind. Take care!
Thanks very much for commenting buddy, glad you enjoyed the video. I highly recommend getting a Region Free Blu Ray player, one of the best investments I ever made. It opened up so many doors for me. There's a company called 220-Electronics that sells them for under $120. It's a little expensive, but totally worth it. Lucio Fulci's Thrillers like The Psychic aka Seven Notes in Black and One on Top of the Other aka Perversion Story aren't too violent or gory, are well made, and worth watching. The Black Cat is my one exception to his Horror output. Shadow of the Cat is one of Hammer Films unsung early 60's gems, I think you'd get a kick out of it. Take care, hope you're well, and speak to you soon.
Thanks for talking about Crypt of the Vampire, a film that took me quite a while to appreciate. It used to play on TV back in the 1970s under the title Terror In the Crypt in a cut version that didn't make a lot of sense. And the copy I used to have from Sinister Cinema was pretty bad in quality. The Severin remastered version finally gave me a chance to see it in excellent condition and see its many good points. It has all the ambience of a typical Italian Gothic horror movie, but, really, there isn't much happening, so it turns out to be as much a character study and a mystery as much as anything. The presence of Christopher Lee in such a setting, and yet playing a decent, somewhat weak character, is sort of disorienting. But he gives a really good performance. The film can justifiably be called slow, but I think the long wait for action is worth it. The second film you discuss is totally new to me, but it sounds like it's worth seeing. I love The Wurdulak segment in Black Sabbath!!
Thanks very much for the comment my friend, glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah, I wasn't too sure what to make of Crypt of the Vampire at first, but there was definitely more to like about the film than to not like. Christopher Lee in a more passive kind of role is unusual for sure, but I started looking at it toward the end as this being something totally out of the character's depth and needed all the help he could get. The setting and atmosphere is the big selling point. I think you'd enjoy Night of the Devils, it's a little bloody, but the setting and folklore background is well worth viewing. And it's interesting to Gianni Garko outside the Westen genre. Take care and speak to you soon.
Hey, thank you so much for the tag and for the nice shout out!! This is certainly a topic and an actress I can enjoy hearing about and talking about. I enjoyed your comments very much, and I appreciate your giving some love to the amazing Barbara. I will definitely accept your tag and do a video response. I'm having a little webcam trouble right now, so I will try and get a video posted as soon as I can. Take care and thanks again!!
You should check out the original Fright Night, it's an 80's classic and one of my favorite movies. Some of those gems you recommended are hard to find here in Canada.
Hi there, and thanks very much for the comment. I have seen Fright Night and wasn't a fan to be honest, but I understand and appreciate the appeal it holds for fans. I did see Abigail over the summer on Peacock and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. They could've toned down on the gore a little though. Gothic Horror and Folk Horror are my main interests, with the occasional exception here and there. I have heard pricing on physical media in Canada is outrageous, but keep up the hunt, I'm sure you'll score some OK prices soon.
@@tvnash Yeah Abigail was a good one. Ever seen Midsomar? That's a good one too.
All sorts of useful info, thanks. It would be really appreciated if you can do a comparison of different bluray prints among these & other various releases that you have.
As an English speaking person I had no idea WTF the titles were & had to guess from the pictures. One of the most irritating things about on-line spaghetti western fans is their often 'arrogant petty purity' with film titles in the original language. In this case are they even the original titles! That fact (of lingo fanaticism) is possibly the biggest hurdle for newcomers to the SWMDB site, other than the cliquey nature of the forum. Instead of it being a place to quickly research & cross check films it is a laborious slog of hunting & translating. The perverse arrogance of the 'lingo fanatics' is so ludicrous that there are numerous poseurs who think an Italian language track is the most authentic (even when the film was made with no specific single nationality), yet ignore the fact that the film is set in AMERICA with American signs, names, & intended locations. Even more risible than the 'lingo fanatics' is the fact that so many of the commentators on the forum have almost no sense of humour at all . Lets see how many of them get triggered about this insight?!
Congrats on picking up your first 4K player. That edition of The Psychic looks awesome.
Congrats on your purchase. You sound excited. Thanks for the review. That being said, I simply don't have a desire to watch any movies these days. They are too unrealistic, overpriced and lack in talent. Seems like I've seen them all, even the ones that haven't been filmed yet. $200 for a DVD player? I'm surprised they cost that much anymore. Didn't think people still used disc's for movies? I don't think I know anyone with a DVD player. I thought most people downloaded their movies, whether legal or illegal and then transferred them to flash drive, the cloud, or something like that. Hollywood lost my interest years ago. 6000 cameras trained on one scene so that if things look screwy with one cam, there's 5999 more angles to look at. Actors dont really have to be actors anymore. They only have to remember 5 words per scene, then the cam jiggles around so the viewer can't see just how ignorantly unskilled they are. Yet people pay to keep them all filthy rich while they distort childrens brains. Happy watching
Thanks very much for the comment and enjoying the video. Yes, there's still quite a big community of film lovers out there who still collect DVDs, Blu-Rays, and 4K discs. The last couple years have been great for us collectors with some cool releases. This particular player was the most expensive I've purchased, but I was able to get a good deal for it and had some leftover gift cards to even out the cost. Streaming's OK for some things, but nothing beats a physical copy of a film or TV show in your hands that you can play anytime you want without commercials.
@@tvnash I agree with you regarding discs over flash drives. Its seems as though bits of data gets lost when using a thumb drive, which causes missing areas, loss of quality. I mainly collect music and I've noticed the difference between MP3's vs. Wave and Flac files. Take care my friend.
4K UHD is the way to go today in 2024
Thanks very much for the comment. I'm enjoying 4K a lot so far.
Who tf cares ?!? Podcasts, horse-hockey reviewers, 'my faves' . . . Who tf cares ?!?
Awesome response video. I used to do a similar series. Private Crimes looks interesting, I will have to keep an eye out for that title. Have a great rest of your weekend my friend.
Heya Stephen. Thank you for the shoutout !. I think you will quite like What Have They Done To Your Daughter. Massimo brilliantly blends the giallo and the poliziotteschi genre together, just like Sergio Martino did in The Suspicious Death Of A Minor. I hope you will end up liking The House That Screamed. I still have to pick up Borsalino myself. Cheers and take care bud.
Thanks very much Thijs buddy, one of these days I'm definitely checking out What Have They Done to Your Daughters as I've liked Bandidos and Colt .38 Special, two other classics by Dellamano. House That Screamed is on my watch pile for October this year. Take care and speak to you soon.
Hey, thanks so much for the nice shout out! And I'm glad to see you join in on this project. The House That Screamed is an excellent horror film. I'd never seen it until I picked up the Arrow release a few years ago, and I was really surprised. It's loaded with atmosphere and has some good scares, but it's not overdone with violence. I hope you like it. The rest of the titles you show here are ones I'm not familiar with. Private Crimes looks like something I would like. Thanks again!
Thanks very much friend, I think you'd get a kick out of seeing Borsalino with Delon and Belmondo, an old school style Gangster story done in the early 70's. Turner Classic Movies has it on their On Demand section if you have Xfinity and are interested in checking it out. Take care and speak to you soon.
This is an excellent film, and a testament to Mario Bava's ability to create a near masterpiece with a low budget. He was one of the few directors who knew how to use color cinematography as if it were black & white. I haven't seen all of his films, and I haven't necessarily loved all the ones I have seen. But I think his other color classics are Black Sabbath and Kill Baby, Kill. Blood and Black Lace is also amazing to look at. The scene in Terror in Space where the two astronauts explore the ancient spaceship with the giant is absolutely one of THE best sequences in all of science fiction cinema. There is simply nothing else like it. I first had the Planet of the Vampires release on VHS, then bought the Midnight Movies release, and now I have the Blu-ray from Kino-Lorber, which is really beautiful I've heard very good things about the Italian version. The AIP title Planet of the Vampires is very catchy, but also misleading, as the film has nothing at all to do with vampires!! Great video!
Thanks very much friend. The only Mario Bava films I felt were below par so far are Bay of Blood and 5 Dolls for an August Moon. Pretty much anything else he's done and has thrilled me immensely. that artistic flavor of his shines through every time. Terrore Nello Spazio is Top 5 and Top 10 list worthy of his filmography.
Hey Stephen, sorry to hear you have had some bad health mate!! Hopefully after this, it will get you back to full health and I enjoyed seeing your neighbourhood (looks really nice and quiet 👍) take care my friend and good health buddy 🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍
Thanks very much for the kind words John, I really do appreciate them. I'm feeling better every day, only short spurts of pain when I'm in bed, and even then it's not too bad. The neighborhood is really nice isn't it, suits my folks and I fine.
Hope you continue to recover well.
Thanks very much my friend.
Heya Stephen. Very cool video !. I think it's great that you write reviews as well :). Keep it up because you always have great inside and points of view. Don't worry about taking a bit longer. I will await your package with excitement. I will probably do more podcasts from september onward because i still have a lot of great ideas. And you are welcome to appear again ofcourse ;). Cheers bud.
Thanks Thijs, I had a real good time with this Giallo. There was a moment during the finale I wish hadn't happened, but other than that Lamberto Bava impressed me a lot. Looking forward to more podcasts with you buddy. Will update you on package soon.
Good review! Not many people covering this set, let alone just this movie on RUclips. I'm mainly interested in this movie so it's hard to pull the trigger for $78 even on sale haha.
Thanks very much for commenting, I try to incorporate many different films on the channel as much as a can.
Hey buddy. Thank you for the shoutout !. I hope you enjoy the movies. We'll keep in touch ;).
Thank you, buddy
Hi Steve! I'm glad you've received the package safe and sound. I still need to grab a copy of Django Shoots First myself someday. That's a very nice edition of Planet of the Vampires. I picked up the Radiance release recently and saw the Italian cut last week. It's a fun movie. You can clearly see that Ridley Scott was inspired by it when he made Alien and Prometheus. Looking forward to see what you are going to send me, buddy. Take care!
Thanks very much for the comment Donny, and for doing this 2nd trade my friend. I'll be sending out my half to you on Monday. Definitely pick up a copy of Django Shoots First for your collection, it's the best presentation I've seen thus far. I ordered myself a copy of Radiance Films release of Planet of the Vampires too, Mario Bava is one of a handful of filmmakers I double dip on when the releases are that fantastic. Plus, I'm curious to read the English translated text of the short story the film is based off of. Take care my friend, and speak to you soon.
Hey bud. I think i will pick up Danza Macabre Volume 2 this month ;). Cheers.
Thanks for commenting Thijs, you'll get a kick out of the set I'm sure.
It's all because of Karma, you know? It's Karma in Sanskrit, it's God's grace in English. etc. etc. in other Languages under the Sun. Everything depends on it. If it's A Good Karma, regardless of ANY NEGATIVE REASONS OR FACTORS, the person having that Karma, SHALL FLOURISH. However, it's not so with respect to Shri Timothy Dalton .....
Interesting. Thanks for the comment.
Hi Steven, I too have been collecting these editions for my spaghetti western collection, & like yourself need the last few, i"m super excited that the next release is "The Five man army" which is a very good spaghetti western & do hope for more releases on this line, i"m hearing they going up to 15 editions but i do hope for more, "Death rides a horse" is a personal fav of mine & would be in my top 10 all time Italian westerns. What i do like abut these releases is that some of these movies are released on the blu ray format for the first time, so Plaion Pictures are giving them a nice special collectors l treatment release.
Thanks very much for commenting Carlos, love your feedback. I believe the upcoming Five Man Army Blu Ray is a stand-alone release and is in Mediabook form, though it would've been an excellent title to include in the Western all'Arrabiata line. Looking forward to what else they have planned to release.
Great Haul Stephen. I have The Road To Fort Alamo as well but i still have to see it. And yes, there was a problem with the transfer i believe. Goodbye And Amen was a really good film and an interesting "take" by Damiano on a political thriller. That release of The Psychic is a great edition. I have it as well. Great picture quality and Severin put soo much special features on there. By the way: I don't know if you are aware but Umbrella Entertainment is releasing A Lizard In A Woman's Skin, which i already pre-ordered. Savage Guns is my favorite western box from Arrow so far and i think you are gonna love Four Of The Apocalypse. The violence is not really straight up in your face. I still have to get Danza Macabre 2 though. I have volume one which is a great box set. You can still get it i believe. Cheers.
Thanks very much for the comment Thijs, and I'm sure I'll enjoy Four of the Apocalypse. I've seen stills of the Umbrella edition of Lizard in a Woman's Skin, and I may indeed pick that one up down the road. Take care my friend, and speak to you soon.
The Indiana Jones is a huge childhood icon of mine as well and The Good, The Bad & The Ugly is still one of my favorite westerns of all time. Great stuff !
The Indiana Jones trilogy, The Wizard of Oz, King Kong, and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly are all great films! Perfect movies for becoming a film buff.
Great video! I have recently watched le samourai for the first time and really enjoyed it, I'm trying to get into french cinema and I definitely want to watch more of Melville films great collection by the way! And sub to your channel
Hi there and thanks for viewing and commenting. Definitely start with Melville's crime films, that's where his talent shined the brightest.
