I'm a high school science teacher that will be transitioning from NGSS to Openscied Physics this up-coming school year. I'm considering changing the way that I grade my students in part because the inquiry based style pushed by the Openscied curriculum aligns to a standards based grading system. However, my district's gradebook is not a standards based gradebook system. I'm leaning towards replacing my categories (i.e., HW, Tests & Quizzes, Classwork, Labs, Participation, Final) with the 8 SEPs and 4 essential standards that I will be covering in the first semester. I'll be grading each assignment based on at least 1 SEP and 1 DCI. I'll appreciate any suggestions or comments on this approach to transition to grade based on standards.

I also explain how I then convert the standards based grades into a single percentage/letter grade at the end of the grading period.
