This 1953 Atmos surprised me
Просмотров 8275 месяцев назад
This is a 1953 Atmos model 519 that really surprised me after the overhaul was completed. The glass case still needs to be cleaned. Amplitude for this clock is extremely high. This customer is going to have a clock that keeps very accurate time for a long time.

Does a new suspension spring really make a difference?
Просмотров 7557 месяцев назад
Two identical clocks were serviced. A new suspension spring was installed on one clock and compared to the OEM spring on the other. Amplitude was increased on the OEM clock when the old spring was removed and a new suspension spring was installed.

How to properly position the fork on your Atmos movement before installing on the clock
Просмотров 4959 месяцев назад
One of the most frustrating steps when overhauling a clock is getting the fork in perfect position. If the fork isn’t in perfect position it will not deliver the energy from the main spring to the impulse roller properly.

Atmos spring comparison
Просмотров 3289 месяцев назад
A proper overhaul on your clock will include the mainspring. The spring must be within specifications. The mainspring will need to rotate the barrel Arbor 5 to 8 rotations. A weak mainspring should be replaced with a better mainspring. This video will help describe the difference between the two.
Making large time adjustments to your Atmos clock
Просмотров 4,4 тыс.10 месяцев назад
You may need to make large timing adjustments on your Atmos click. When the regulator lever on the top of the clock has moved too far to the left, or too far to the right, this video will describe how to reset that lever to the middle.
Proper Atmos fork position for a high amplitude clock

Proper fork position is critical. A clock that is running with a low amplitude can greatly be improved by changing its fork position.
1942 Atmos II Overhaul
Просмотров 3,1 тыс.10 месяцев назад
This is a complete overhaul of a 1942 Atmos II clock. The clock was purchased in very poor condition. It took a lot of work to get it to look like its current condition. The bellow did not have any ethyl chloride in it. A working bellow from 1947 was installed. These bellows cannot be refilled or serviced. This makes a working Atmos II a very rare clock.

Who would you recommend for an atmos clock service? I've got one that ran since 1975 to 2022
Thanks a lot for this video and the amount of information it has. I have an Atmos Jubilee 76 my dad bought at a jewelry store, and a few years ago, I damaged it by locking the pendulum while the top fork was engaged (sorry I don't use the correct words but I am sure you understand what I mean) I sent it to Jeager Lecoultre in my country where it was repaired and serviced (I cost me around $800) but once I got it back it was running much too fast (+ 20 minutes/day) after sending them back the clock, the technicians told me there was nothing wrong with the clock and it probably had to do with magnetism or something interfering with the clock at my place (?) After going back and forth without any improvement, I took it back, turned the top thing where the filament is stuck, and got it back working as much accurate as possible. It was not a great experience, but I really love this piece. I hope it keeps on working for a long time...
The clock probably should have had about an additional 5 g of weight installed on the balance to reduce the speed. Once you get accuracy to a two minutes a day, you can begin regulating using the regulation lever at the top of the clock. I hear examples every week from my clients who have taken their Atmos clocks to repair shops that have no idea what they’re working on. Let me know if I can be of some help. Atmos Clock Repair Shop
@@watchguyAtmos Thank You for your suggestion about the weight. The model is a 5861 and the balance has 6 large studs and I wonder if they didn't mess with them when reassembling it as it was working perfectly before I damage the fork... I'd love to have you check it, but it would have to cross the ocean...
I cannot decide if I think it’s gorgeous or an abomination
I didn’t like it at first. Now I love it!
Thanks for your video it helped me fix it.
Glad it helped
I live in Spain. I have a 528 from 1974 that I just bought in the USA, it was very dirty. I did a complete overhaul and everything is original including the suspension which was in very good condition, it works perfectly and I have 600º of amplitude.
Nice work!
Loved this video! My father introduced me to the Atmos clock many years ago when I was too young to appreciate the marvel of technology it is. Today, decades later, I love watches, watch repair and the beautiful precision of miniaturization that has been a part of watch design for over a century. This video was so well done with such detail. Thank you for taking the time to show all the steps in servicing the movement as well as what to look out for when looking to purchase an Atmos clock.
Thank you, I appreciate that. I enjoy educating people on what makes these clocks so special.
Hello I have my atmos who need to be faster, how to do ?
Watch the video
@ I do it on the other side and it’s perfect :)
Glad to find this video. I just bought my first Atmos clock as a consignment sale at my local watch and clock repair shop. It was serviced, but to what extent I don't know. The amplitude is around 360 degrees. Is that something that should concern me?
Everyone who sells these clocks claims it’s serviced. A clock that was serviced will not run at 360° amplitude. That is a clock that has not been serviced. Good luck.
@@watchguyAtmos Thanks. I made my post around three hours after I had started the clock, which was premature. Since that time, the amplitude has increased and seems to have settled around 490 - 515 deg. Perhaps a new balance spring was used and had to be broken in? (be kind, I am green to al this). I bought this from a clock and watch repair shop just a couple miles from my house, that has been in business for 35 years. I am confident that the owner / watchmaker performed some degree of service. One year warranty. But when dealing with remote sellers of watches or clocks, I disregard all claims of servicing without proof.
@@watchguyAtmos Under 19 seconds fast per day, BTW.
@@watchguyAtmos Checking it periodically (it sits in my office), I now see it consistently over 515 deg, and as I write this, I see 540 deg exactly. I had no idea that it could increase by 50% from starting it up. That is all.
How much does the clock cost?
Atmos clock prices can vary
Thank you so much for sharing this valuable information. I'm a new subscriber to your channel. Just one question how do you use the tool shown at the beginning of the video?
The tool is used to bend the balance tube.
very helpful
Very nice video, is quite enlightening. It is obvious it isn't your first one you overhaule. Where do you get the spring for those clocks?
The new suspension springs come from timesaver
I’ve been searching for a clock like this, the few that I did find they are wanting like 1000 bucks for them.
Quality clocks built to last generations are going to be expensive. Almost as much as a Apple Watch built to last until the next new model comes out 12 months later
Amazing video - still scary to try it - I have some experience with anniversity clocks - but scary to even to have and touch these clocks .... . But again - very very nice video. Greeting from Slovakia :)

I have an Atmos 528 S/N 346175 (1971 I think) that I got ~13 years ago. It's been running great ever since. I think I tinker with the time about monthly and it's only off a minute or so, but I don't really remember exactly. I know that it's always close. Anyway, I'm 80 now and the kids don't want it and I'd like to see it go to a good home to be appreciated like we have. I love the technology of this clock. It's almost a perpetual motion machine. Amazingly it only needs 1 degree of change to wind (or so I've read). My question is: How much longer can it be expected to run without service. I don't know if it's ever been serviced. I got it from an antique shop in Pennsylvania after tourning the The National Watch & Clock Museum. I paid, what I thought was a TON of $$$ for it but was impressed with it. OK, when do you suggest it gets serviced? And if the kids sell it what would you tell them it's worth. I have tons of pictures and even videos of it. We LOVE it and want a good owner for it when we're gone. Thanks for reading this and any help, suggestiong, and/or comments.😉 Oh, I really appreciate not only your talent in working on these beauties but your skill in describing what's going on while you're doing it AND your video talent. EXCELLENT! 👍👍
If you have a clean household and non-smokers, you can probably go another 13 maybe 15 years before needing a service. You will know it needs to be serviced if you keep having to nudge the regulator to the “+”position. A 528 in exceptional condition can go for $1k.
Hallo, what LACQUER SPRAY - do you use to protact the clock. I have seen the normal once make the metal dull and it loses it shine. Kind Regards,

@@watchguyAtmos Thank you very much - appreciated - I have a Atmos clock but want to know what model it is? can I upload picture? It has a rectangular dial and physical size is larger than the normal atmos clock
Hi Martin, what temperature is room temperature?
It was 74°F
Stunningly beautiful clock!
Many thanks!
Great video! Im watch collector and always know about Atmos but never really understand how it work. Now i know how it works and how to service one ;) Best wishes
Glad to help!
I just love these Athmos clocks but they're very expensive. Thank you for sharing this video to show me how the clock works without having to take one apart myself (which would probably be a one way function).
Thanks.
Hello, I am fan of you channel and I have learned a lot from your videos, now I need your help, where do you buy the suspension spring, because the ones I have bought I think are little thicker than the genuine and gets the clock fast almost 20 minutes per day, I will really appreciate if you share your supplier. The suspension spring is the same for a528 and 540 Atmos ? Thanks Carlos
The suspension spring from timesaver can be used from the Atmos 2 all the way to the modern 540. You will need to add weights to the balance to slow the clock to within three minutes a day. Now you regulate using the regulator on the top of the clock.

after watching the hole video, i'm going to buy a quartz clock.. kkkkkkk
There’s a lot of advantages to buying a quartz clock. I wonder if it will be around in 82 years and running like the day it was made? That’s what I have 😁
Great content as always ❤
When I get some funds saved up mine will head your way.
Thank you I would be happy to help
Hello Watch Guy; Michael here from Melbourne, Australia. I have a basic Atmos clock (no complications) and I suspect it has a flat bellows. It is in excellent condition otherwise; I bought it from Capetown Diamond about 10 years ago. It ran for about 18 months and stopped. The bellows chain is up around 12 o’clock on the pulley and the clock only runs for about 45 mins. I am most impressed by your thoroughness and care for each clock you work on. Are you able to repair this clock for me if I send it to you, please? Thank you, in anticipation. Michael
Yes, Michael I can repair this clock for you. Please contact me at atmosclockrepairshop@gmail.com for shipping instructions. We can go over if you need an overhaul or just need your bellow refilled.
Really appreciate all your content. I have a 526 movement i cannot disassemble. Vis are blocked. Do you have tips ?
The overhaul process isn’t for everyone. Some have attempted the process with success. Most clockmakers avoid working on these clocks. I’d be more than happy to assist you. You can visit my website at atmosclockrepairs.com for my prices and contact information. I do understand the videos make the overhaul appear to be easy. I can assure you these are difficult clocks to repair.
Hi, how are you? I'm Leo from Argentina! Do you know what type of treatment or coating the parts and boxes of Atmos watches have? Your videos are very good, congratulations. greetings
All of the gold parts of the clock are covered with lacquer
thanks a lot
I just pulled my 528 to diagnose thanks to your great videos. The bellows are perfect, measuring great and expanding and contacting in specification. However I tried hand winding by pushing the bellows spring in and it doesn't return by itself, it pushes in fine but does not return unless I lightly pull it, what would your diagnosis be for this? Once hand wound it starts and continuously runs at 450 degrees amplitude, so obviously needs a service, so the fault lies with the winding mechanism
Your main spring is sticky. The clock will need to be taken apart and overhauled.
@@watchguyAtmos Many thanks, I will do that, thanks for your excellent video's!
Great skills, up there with glass blowing and electronic vacuum valve manufacture. Good to see the old skills kept alive for a perennial niche market at least. Some beautiful engineering there used to be, gorgeous even. Elegant, beautiful clocks btw.
Always wondered how those worked without a way to wind them, wound with the change in air pressure.
Great Overhaul ! 519/522/526-28 seems to be really reliable. Amplitude on 540/560 are so weak...
The amplitude on a 540 is weaker than a 528 for a number of reasons. Every component on a 540 is smaller and lighter weight. They just don’t need to travel at 600° amplitude. A 540 that operates over 450° is fantastic. 540s can also have service intervals longer than a 528 or earlier models.
Thanks for the video. Quick question, if the stem that holds the hands is broken( in the area away from the movement closer to the hands), would i theoretically be able to glue the broken stem back and it work fine despite (assuming i do a good glue job)?
I’m going to assume your minute hand will not attach to the clock. You will require a new fourth wheel. This part cannot be glued back together. It’s very common this part gets broken especially in Atmos II clock. They get broken when the upper case is removed from the clock and snag on the minute hand.
@@watchguyAtmos what would be the labor cost if I sent over a clock along with the correct part?
Hello, can you tell me which grade of movement this is please? Standard, Special, Premium...
I think it elabore
I'm a 26 year old collector and just got my Atmos 528-8 in as well! Thank you for the insightful video 🙏

Thanks for both these video's, I really enjoyed them and the level of detail shown. My case is crusty, what did you clean yours with? It looks magnificent!
