Foundations for Lifelong Learning by John Piper | Book Review
John Piper's 2023 book entitled "Foundations for Lifelong Learning: Education in Serious Joy" is designed to give us a proper view of what exactly education and learning is. The Christian life is one of lifelong learning, and our learning is a kind of knowledge that is not merely the transfer of information into our minds, but by God's grace, the kind of knowledge that overflows into worship and delight in God. Piper does a great job of driving this point home throughout the book.

The Rat Race | Sermon on Ecclesiastes 9:11-18
Просмотров 892Год назад
How does the Incarnation relate to the human condition, known as "the rat race"? It turns out, the vicious cycle of the human existence eluded to us by Solomon is exactly what we need to come to terms with, in order to appreciate the good news of Jesus Christ. In a manner of speaking, Ecclesiastes reminds us of the bad news which makes the gospel so glorious. During a season of hustle and bustl...

The only thing I would like to add, is I believe we are bound to have something wrong, let scripture interprets scripture, and sometimes we find ourselves interpreting it ourselves rather than allowing the Holy Spirit to Interpret it
Ty this is an amazing idea. I've been saved for 33 years. Sadly, I'm just learning how to study my bible. I just found out about the inductive bible study method. It's been a blessing. For years my former pastor kept telling us not to use commentaries because it someone else is opinion. Now I know that was wrong. These people spend years of their life dedicated to learning the bible.
@@anneshirleyduncan I’m so glad you found this helpful!
ESV is more evangelical.
Thank You so much! This was very helpful...
You're welcome Tim, thanks for watching!
I'd love to see your commentary on 1 Peter 3:18-22
Both of these Study Bibles are excellent. My personal preference is the Reformatiom Study Bible. I agree that one could own both. My guess is that the NKJV edition was discontinued by Ligonier because Dr. R. C. Sproul is off the scene. He preferred the NKJV, as I do. I own both study bibles as Kindle Books and have the the Reformatiom Heritage Study Bible KJV Leather bound as my carry around bible with Zipper. It has the Three Forms of Unity and the Westminster Standards. I will check out more of your videos.
Before I gave up Facebook (feels good not having it, it was a personal choice) I posted once about how I forgot my Bible and like most who grew up in church I grabbed one from the pew in front of me and used it but at the same time i could tell a difference and it really made me realize why it’s the sword of the spirit because as soldiers are trained to use any sword they are most familiar with their own. And this video reminded me of that, rebinding your own Bible could be compared to how a soldier might have replaced leather on their hilt😄
Douay Rheims knockoff, Catholic feast days.
A worn bible is a well tended soul
one weakness of this ESV SB is it's Calvinistic
The tiny print hurts my old eyeballs , I need big print Bible. I'm old at 53 ,I did a lot of reading as a kid.
I have the Holman Rainbow Study Bible. It's already color coded and Lords words are underlined. I think I can only use pens for any additional highlights. Any suggestions on how to use this Bible if appreciated. ❤
Would love to hear the your opinion on the Modern English Version...
1783 is the correct Bible. You need to put that back on teh shelf.
🤔
WRONG! You do not even believe in the unbelievable power of God to make certain the people at the end time had his official message tyhat reached the whole world like He Said. KJB!
I think I'm going to do two colors. Orange (caution). Basically any verse with instructions as far as do and don't. Yellow for key verse and pencil for citation.
Nice!
Dual tip Studio series highliters are very for the bible. And they have fine tip and thick tip
Thank God this video. I've seen other videos, but they have too many colors and markings, i think im gonna follow your system, cause the others are overwelming me
I noticed a few months ago that my Bible journaling notes were drawing my eyes instead of scripture, (massive problem, because the focus was on my words, not God’s. Total self idolatry.) So I started fresh with a new ESV Reader's Edition and the Story of Redemption Journals from the Daily Grace Co. Its a set of four journals with half a page of space per chapter of the Bible. It's not enough space, but I'm utilizing tip ins and sticky notes which expands my square inches for notes. It feels like a win-win because I still get all the benefits of Bible journaling but when I'm reading the word of God, all I've got in front of me is the word of God. It didn't occur to me until I saw your video that I'm basically writing my own commentaries. 😅
That's an interesting observation and sounds like you found a way to strike a nice balance! Thanks for sharing
Hmm, when reading resources about Biblical Archaeology always put the text of Scripture first and foremost, case in point, where was Sodom? Right where Genesis says it was, basically east of Jericho on the western side of the Jordan River, not the southern end of the Dead Sea. It is called Tell El-Hammam today maps.app.goo.gl/GSVMUKqwDN2TdWEi9 When was the Exodus? During the reign of Pharaoh Ramses as many scholars state? What does Scripture say? According to 1 Kings 6:1 (1599 Geneva Bible) And in the four hundred and fourscore year (after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt) and in the fourth year of the reign of Solomon over Israel, in the month Ziv, (which is the second month) he built the house of the Lord.
Excellent: I like the 3 color and pen idea better. It's simpler IMO. Thanks for making this and sharing.
Thank you!! I enjoyed this 🤓
You "beautiful" biblos are a false copy of the original 1611 Scrip. The reason for saying this is because your copy has not the Name of the Creator in it. They changed it by placing "the Lord" in it. The original 1611 Scrip does not have the word "The Lord" in it but rather YHUH, and it does not mention Jesus but rather Yahusha. Why did they changed it? Because Jesus are the new god of the joined pagan Mashiahiyim (Christendom). The true name of YHUH "son" are YAHUSHA and not Jesus. You sir, and million others worship the son of suez, iesous chrisna.
Great tutorial I really like the bible hub and use it a lot.I'ts a wealth of knowledge and best of all it's free. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed day😅😅
Thank you for sharing. This system seems to work well. I just need to get myself a wide margin Bible
Goodness gracious, 11:30 in before he even started discussing the actual bibles.
Is your green highlight only for an exact reference or a cross reference that’s similar? For instance when Jesus says this generation asks for a sign. Would you reference Jonah in the whales belly. Even thought it’s not a direct quote ?
I watched this on a whim and never thought it was going to be so good. I agree more markers have made if more difficult for me like another commenter mentioned.
You are supposed to be using the 1783, not 1611.
I got a second hand ESV in great condition in its box and I can’t wait to get home and spend time with it. It’s a beauty.
Thanks for having me on the show! I had a great time. You are doing excellent work!
Off topic a bit but I have vision problems and am to the point that I can only read the Bible on an electronic Bible with a black page and white print and that enlarged significantly and I hold it right up to my face about 6 inches away. Is it considered rude or even questionable to use that device in a church service?
Not in most services. Please use your electronic Bible if you need to!!
Thanks for the podcast. Came in late but will rewatch the recording.
The 1611 is not perfect like the 1783.
The 1783 is perfect?
Nope. The Baker Illustrated Study Bible is better. ESV Study Bible has great features and lots of content, but too Reformed/Calvinist in it's commentary.
It wasn't Olde English, as in the style of English. it was modern English in the Gothic font. January 1st wasn't new years in the 1611, April 1st was😊 142 years later January 1st became new years.
Thank you for the helpful information. May God richly bless you and your family. GOD'S BLESSINGS TO ALL NATIONS AND PEOPLES Mark 16:15 Gospel! The good news about Jesus Christ and salvation from judgment on our sins. Jesus dined with His disciples the night before He went to the cross. Mark 14:22-25. Jesus and His disciples were eating a Passover meal together at the Last Supper. After partaking of bread and wine (His body and His blood), the Bible mentions the hymn Jesus sang with His disciples. “And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.” Mark 14:26. What were they singing on such an occasion? PRAISE! Psalms 113-118. THE GOOD NEWS "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me." John 14:6 Jesus Christ loves us! We believe this! John 3:16-17. We believe Him and who He is! He is our Savior! GOD THE SON! ONLY HE SAVES. Ephesians 2:8 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 not of works, lest any man should boast." JESUS GAVE HIS LIFE FOR US AND LIVES AGAIN! 1 Corinthians 15: 3 "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" Blood coming from his body, NAKED, hanging on that cross like Roman torture weapon! What a Lord God and Savior! He had to. HE is God the Son. Only His sinless blood could pay for all our sins. 1 John 2:1-2. He died on our behalf! We believe in Him and who He is, trusting the shedding of His blood as payment for ALL our sins, and His burial and resurrection from the dead the third day for our eternal life! John 20:24-31. HE LIVES EVERMORE! We can live forever through Him. God forgives our sins through Him otherwise our sins will prevent us from living in Glory with Him and our family in the faith the Bible describes. We study to show ourselves approved in wisdom and further truths about Him! We are in a family! God's family. CHRIST'S BRIDE! We got to know Jesus Christ better and better! Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates his love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more than, now justified by his blood, we will be saved from wrath through him." HE LIVES! JESUS LIVES!
Actually, the bible *IS* leather...a bonded leather, at least based on the link in the description. YOUR bible appears to be _super smooth_ & shiny like a vinyl...the pic @ the link doesn't provide a good picture to even see what it looks like, but they may have "upgraded" the cover to a bonded leather since your purchase. It's $52 @ the link you provided as of *April 14, 2024.*
Just spotted it for *35* on a few other sites, the publisher's site being one of them.
I like the look of the lamp wicks instead of traditional ribbons. " Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." PSALM 119:105, it surely does fit, God bless.
Yes, it is the absolute best for desk study... IMHO. Not for carry....
James 1:8
Does anyone know if the study notes are the same in the ESV and NKJV reformation bibles?
That's a good question. I'm not sure of the answer since I don't have both to compare
This Bible is one of my primary sources as I do my Sunday school lessons.
I have both as well. Wish I’d gotten the RSB in NKJV. I can say I’m glad my ESVSB is genuine leather, that leather soft don’t hold up at all!
You're absolutely right
JI Packer was small letter r "reformed" but he was Anglican through and through.
There's definitely polarizing opinions about how to compare reformed and Anglican. It sounds like you think they are more dissimilar than similar. What denominations do you think belong in the reformed category?
Very simplified method of highlighting in your bible, very refreshing video.Kee up the good work.
Great video thanks for sharing
I really wish they had the genealogy tree's.... i would buy in a second if it did.
Genealogy trees?
@betterbiblereading The original 1611 and facsimile's have the ancestry Tree's of all the prophets and people of the bible! Super cool.
17 min mark (ish) These translation charts are a joke 😂 The ESV is not more literal than the KJV/NKJV. I’ve read from the KJV/NKJV/NASB/ESV. Of those four the ESV is the most hyped and least literal of the four. If you want to see an honest chart look up Grant Jones’ charts.
Thanks for your thoughts. I understand that the chart might give that impression, but the chart is actually trying to show that the NASB is more literal than the ESV (Critical Text traditions), and the KJV is more literal than the NKJV (Textus Receptus tradition). I could have emphasized that more for clarity. I made the point that their differences lie in the manuscript traditions being used (Critical Text, Textus Receptus, etc..). The chart isn't perfect and there wasn't a great way to really compare all of those since they're so different. That's why I made the point that all of the translations on that end of the spectrum are good for what they're tring to do. It's the difference in manuscripts that determines how someone might consider one more literal than the other, but comparing manuscript traditions between those 4 is an entirely different topic.
It took me 81 days to read the ESV StudyBible large print. It was the best experience in reading I’ve ever had. I have never read more than 3 books in a year. Opened my eyes to Christianity and gave me a love for reading. 360 books later since 2020 in the 3rd month of 2024, I must thank this Bible for everything. Happy Easter Everyone!!
that's way too little time, make sure you're studying it and not just reading it
Why cant you get these ESV Study Bible's in giant print ?
