Holland has a similar Mound called "Pyramid of Austerlitz" near the city of Utrecht. It was built in 1804 in only 27 days by Marmont's boys.
Absolutely right. Yes, I had forgotten that. I think I went there about 40 years ago! Thanks for adding that...
i've visited this museum last april. it was cool to learn about the architecture and culture of different chinese ethnic groups. However half the park was closed due to "renovations", which in my opinion was just poor upkeep even on the parts that were open, there were no shows and food/drinks were non existent that day. Might have been there on a bad day but i was kind of let down.
I fear you might be right regarding the upkeep of the ethnic park. Even back in 2013 it could have done with a good makeover. And there were zero food/drinks back then too; though on a freezing cold winter's day that was no surprise. Thanks for writing in. Let me know if there is any specific museum or park etc you'd like me to include. I have about 250 more posts "waiting in the wings" and I'm happy to change the order of posting...

Dumplings are called momos in India . They were brought in by the Nepalese people
And lovely they are too! Thanks for writing in...
In fact, these two sites belong to the same museum. They, as different branch, share the same booking system and social media. The one located near Tian'anmen (Zhengyangmen branch “正阳门馆”) used to be a train station and has been preserved for historical reasons, primarily showcasing documents and models. The other one located in the northeastern part of Beijing (Dongjiao branch "东郊馆"), near the loop railway testing center(“环形铁道”), has sufficient space to place rolling stock. I have been both places many times and I recommend the latter one although there isn’t a single convenience store or restaurant around.
Thanks for that. Yes, you're right: they are under the same management - now, but back in 2012 when the original article for thsi was written, there was great confusion online and if you looked up one museum, it was very common for it to have a write up of the building of one with the innards of the other totally mixed up. And don't even get me started on the third rail museum (Zhan Tianyou Memorial Museum) in Badaling! I agree with you, the loco museum in the north east is an amazing place and I too went many times. Thanks for your interest in this podcast series... I already have over 250 lined up for the foreseeable future, tracing my time spent in Beijing from 2011 to 2018.

You're right. The artwork on Beijing's Subway is truly awesome. Every day for the next three weeks I will be posting videos from all the other Beijing lines. Some are way better than line 2. Enjoy!

Thanks for uploading photos of the NRM when it was still relatively good. Since this was recorded, Aerolite, LMS 2500 and L&YR 1008 (all next to each other) have been cast out and sent to other locations. The museum is just an empty shell of its former self. Most of the old locos have left, and it’s much more gloomy than it once was. Good for you if you enjoyed it.
I'm afraid you're right. I remember the museum years ago when it was so special. Today it is a shadow of its former self. Hopefully after all the restorations etc are out of the way things will improve again, but I am not holding my breath.
Did they fix the 6 tv area? The f1 car stimulator? The vr thing? The golf sim was working when i was there
The TV area is now working fine (or was last month when I was there). I never saw an F1 sim or VR or even Golf sim. But I didn't make a point of going to the gaming section at the end.
@HB-Travel Yeah, there is a golf sim there and if u go to the left of it there is a narrow path way about 4 metres long which leads to a narrow bridge which goes to a open sitting area. Im going to visit the lounge in 3 days again so thanks

Dogs are allowed on the beach anytime during the low season. They are also allowed during peak season early morning or late evenings but not during the day .
You are right. The problem is when in the high season pet owners believe the ban doesn't apply to them. Thanks for pointing that out.

What a great video. Did you notice the knave is 6 degrees out of kilter with the rest of the cathedral? It's easy to spot standing by the doors at the back. Apparently that was so as to line up with the original St Mary's. Although no-one has been able to explain to me why they didn't keep the rest of the cathedral on that line. I also argue it has FOUR spires; what else would you call the tall pointy green thing on the St Mary's aisle?
Thank you for your kind comments. Yes, I knew about the 6degs misalignment. But most people miss that. And I hadn't even thought about the "4th spire". I guess it goes to show we tend to believe what we read rather than think for ourselves. I'll definitely have to rethink that one!
In fact if you look at the matchstick model in this video it is clear as anything. So you're right. Four spires! haha
Produced and edited by a total dish indeed !
