Talks With Kerry Part I The Mind Body Problem
Chris Ott discusses the mind-body problem of philosophy with Kerry McPherson.
Recorded at the AMB Circle Center, Myrtle Beach, SC, USA, on Oct. 29, 2019. I plan to organize these videos with Kerry into a new series later on. They will eventually be numbered consecutively. This series of 11 videos is largely a repeat of 'Baba and the Future' but with important added material at the end.
Kerry is 100% blind. He agreed to be my listener, my 'Fred McMan,' for this series of talks. He is a great listener, a real wit, and did a great job.

Discussion of issues surrounding causation. Includes discussion of: 1. Causal chains 2. Cause as explanation vs. mere nominal causes The points to take away from this 30 minute talk are that, in the strongest sense of the word cause (as that which is truly responsible for an ultimate outcome), there can only be a single cause for all occurrences. It comes down to 'things present in the form that they do' or 'experience happens as it does.' If we presume there is a witness to this experience, we are making the mistake of taking that from the experience itself which is in itself unreliable. Yes. This was a dress rehearsal from the RMB Starlight Classics in March 2018 in Cape Town, South Africa. Amira was just shy of 15 years old. Sunnyboy Dlada is an extremely accomplished opera singer and member of the Berlin Opera. I heard that after this he told Amira he would be happy to perform with her anytime.

Escher also suggests a kind of delusion or over-confidence that 2 dimensions of perception can truthfully represent 3, a breakdown in the functionality of that sort of representation that can create a passing frisson almost like Zen stuff, an intimation of dimensionality and a sort of semiotic crisis. The ability to correlate map and territory or word and referent seems to depend on an imaginative leap, self-corrective only in actual engagement with the externalized/objectified territory or referent .

Maybe I'll give the talk again. The topic is timely and important, because governments and NGOs have begun to impose paid fact checkers. This notion that the determination of facts can be turned over to governing authorities is absurd and is dumbing people down. It is all leading to the "Ministry of Truth" from 1984. Sadly people don't know this. They think this is fine. Similarly they have created the meme "Trust the science," which makes a church out of science and is entirely anti-scientific. Add to this the soon to be introduced phrase "Trust the A.I." It is also very interesting that much of the plan for future surveillance and control includes 'reading and writing people's thoughts' based on unproven theories of mind -- and people don't know this either. Philosophy may have a role to play very soon when people are ready to climb out of this growing dark age. ruclips.net/video/2GcV8hA9PFI/видео.html

I agree that philosophy has a role in this and I am glad you are doing this series. I do see a part of the people who become mesmerized by all these artificial trends, but I also see a huge part that is reacting to all this. People still have an intuition about what is human and what just mascarades as such to establish something inhuman. Maybe this is not so evident in places like some parts of the US and UK, but even there I see plenty of reactions. Sadly it all becomes mixed with political ideologies. It is an obfuscating and hard to avoid factor.

Advaita Vedanta is a philosophical and spiritual tradition that originated in ancient India and is considered one of the main schools of Vedanta. It is primarily based on the Upanishads, which are ancient Hindu scriptures, and the Brahma Sutras, which are aphorisms on the nature of ultimate reality. Advaita means "non-dual" or "not two," and the central teaching of Advaita Vedanta is the concept of non-duality. It posits that the ultimate reality, known as Brahman, is beyond the realm of duality and is the only true existence. According to Advaita Vedanta, the perceived diversity and multiplicity of the world is an illusion (maya), while Brahman is the underlying unity that pervades everything.. Advaita Vedanta can be seen as a spiritual science in the sense that it provides a systematic and logical inquiry into the nature of reality. It encourages individuals to use their intellect and reason to discern the truth.. The methodology of Advaita Vedanta involves a process of self-inquiry and introspection, aiming to realize one's true nature as Brahman.. It employs logical analysis, contemplation, and meditation to reveal the underlying unity of existence.. Advaita Vedanta emphasizes the importance of direct experience and personal realization rather than blind faith or dogma. It asserts that one's true nature is not separate from Brahman but is identical to it. Through the removal of ignorance (avidya) and the realization of one's true nature, liberation (moksha) is attained, which is the ultimate goal of Advaita Vedanta... From a metaphysical perspective, Advaita Vedanta posits three fundamental entities or levels of reality.. Brahman is the absolute reality, the ultimate ground of being. It is considered to be limitless, formless, and beyond all attributes.. Brahman is described as Sat-Chit-Ananda, meaning existence, consciousness, and bliss.. It is the only true and eternal reality that underlies and pervades all phenomena.. Atman refers to the individual self or soul. Advaita Vedanta teaches that the true nature of the individual self is identical to Brahman. Atman is considered to be pure consciousness, beyond the limitations of the body, mind, and ego. Realizing the non-dual nature of Atman and Brahman is the central aim of Advaita Vedanta.. Maya is the power of illusion or ignorance that veils the true nature of reality. It is the principle that gives rise to the appearance of the world and creates the sense of duality and separation.. Maya is responsible for the perception of multiplicity and individuality, which is considered an illusion..Through the removal of maya, one can realize the underlying unity of Brahman.. Advaita Vedanta asserts that the ultimate reality is beyond the grasp of ordinary perception and conceptual understanding. It encourages seekers to transcend the limitations of the mind and senses to directly experience the non-dual nature of existence.. It deals with the nature of consciousness, reality, and liberation from a philosophical and spiritual standpoint rather than through empirical investigation or experimental validation..
