July 12 2013 I lost my Go-Pro whilst using it for the first time. After a few unsuccessful attempts by divers to locate it, I decided to build my own ROV to find and retrieve the missing camera. 2.5 months later I found it after 4 days of searching! This video features both the footage from the Go-Pro and the ROV's camera. I do not own the music tracks featured, they belong to the following tal...

Hi, I’ve had the exact same problem with mine, it started about 5 years ago and I’ve never been able to fix it. Have you managed to resolve the problem? 🙏

Hi 8 Ball - Sorry i didnt reply sooner i have been at work offshore. I am still trying to get to the bottom of this and after studying the schematics and testing, i am almost certain this is a tube fault. Have you ever changed the tubes in your amp?? The volume control has no affect on the sound, yet the presence control does... that means the fault is after the pre-amp stage. You will notice from the last clip on the video the amp makes the same noise but the amp was turned off but with the standby switch on! The caps are obviously driving the curcuit and the fault occurs. So i have ruled out the solid state side. And the schematic leaves very little else that could introduce noise into the circuit (even when switched off). That is leading me towards the tubes. I have ordered another set. I will install them an bias them and let you know how it goes.

@@Sosijdog hi, thanks for the reply. No I’ve never replaced the tubes, I suspected it may have something to do with it, but not sure how to replace them, I guess there may be a video on here somewhere. It would be great if you could let me know if it works for you, and I’ll try changing them if so. Maybe you could record how to change the tubes whilst you’re doing it 😂 kill two of my birds with one stone 👍 Good luck, hope it works.

Hello again 8 Ball! I changed the tubes and it cured the fault! 😃 Unfortunately i did not make a video of it for you. 😁 However, changing the tubes is very easy - but they MUST be biased in order to ensure they work correctly. As this is the case and you need to be inside the amp with some lethal high voltages kicking about, i wouldn’t want you to attempt it if you weren’t sure. You can physically change the tubes yourself (a few screws and pull them out, and new ones in) but biasing requires the amp to be fully powered up to set it. Again its very simple if you want to check out a tutorial vid. But it would be a 5 minute job for an amp tech. Glad to have the old amp back! Good luck. 😃👍🏻

As a fellow cinematographer and film constructor I must say the choice of music "There Goes My Hero" was a golden song selection for a video about losing your GoPro HERO camera. 5 Stars from me = Like, Subscribe, and a comment!

Love it, seems to be working very very well! How do you control your depth? Is the ROV always positively buoyant and the prop spinning to keep it at the right depth?

This is why you should always tie a float to your cameras in deep water. Do you have any plains? I like this design.

I lost my phantom with gimbel and gopro and I gave up. it was in the woods and I'm not even sure wheread and flew over the areas i suspected it was for hours and looked at it on bigscreen. Never found it. I like this thing you built. What is your background? It is very nice. I want to buy it. How much would you sell it for?

YOUR QUOTE "Man finds missing camera with homebuilt ROV" sounds a hell of alot better than "Man walks into shop and buys something" is awesome, well done for be persistent/stubborn and an great story to go along with it. Now I can only hope I lose my GoPro to get me motivated to build an ROV. Thanks!

GREAT vid !!! Can I ask you what did you make the camera from and how did you make it waterproof to such a press ? thanks a lot, I always wanted to make one of these, but I'm a doctor, the electric circuits are too much for me.. I could make all of it, but making the joysitck a proper "operating-knob" is imposssible for me.. tell me when you'll be selling yours ;-)
