Apple Pay directly linked to your bankaccount. Is widely accepted.
Wow just found your channel and your content is awesome!! My wife and I are moving to the Netherlands in about 6 months. Would love more content on the DAFT visa or budgeting etc. great video! ❤
Dutch have been growing fruits and veggies for dozens of years. Every year the greenhouses replace their plants. So they try to get a stronger plant every year. One of the things I noticed through the years is that the proces of rotting got less and less. So it stays good for longer periods of time
Nice that i was on the vid it was Nice to meat you and what a Nice video 😍
In the netherlands we have a saying. “ we work to live, we do not live to work”.
You weigh your own produce so you can use the hand scanners and not worry about having to go through the cashier if you get produce. I love the hand scanners since I can then throw the items in my bag and pay and go without unpacking and repacking my grocery sacks to pay.
The produce in the Netherlands is about two days old and just a few hours from where they are grown. In the U.S., they go through packaging and shipping for up to a week in refrigerated trucks. Also, the GMOs of the U.S. are more about size and color and not taste and longevity (except bananas). Here there are less GMOs and more pest and environmental resistance.
If the scales in the store are out of order, your produce will just be weighed at the check-out. I don't think you're getting free produce 😅
❤😊
1 thing cash is not king no more it alll card card card and the the don't accepts mastercard visa O it's so Weird and I lived Here all my life that the don't accept those cards. I had to upfrunt fore famely from the us A few times They officially can't refuse cash but sometimes happens only in special circumstances that can refuse cash because it's a law fol paying mechanism
2:01 I saw a story about a kid who’s mom had to go to the doctor with her other child. The kid was like 10 and walked in his own for less than a mile to a grocery store. The local sheriff saw him walking and later arrested the mom for reckless endangerment. They treated her like she committed some kind of heinous crime and it just felt insane to me. That sheriff could arrest at least half the parents in the Netherlands if he was here.
In the United States purchasing processed foods is the norm as convenient. In Europe it seems like they prefer cooking more than a quick food fix. I could be wrong about this but based on my own experience from visiting family members outside the US, cooking seems to be the preferred method when preparing meals.
In the PLUS, you can leave without a receipt when you go to " de kassa" Because they don't want anyone to leave without paying. But I like your way with cats, because😊 I'am the same.
My hometown! Videos like these make me appreciate my hometown even more. Sometimes I forget how beautiful it is. Amersfoort ❤❤
I really don't like the system going away, they are also to let people know when there are toxins in the air because of bad fire or something that went from with a big factory which can cause risks etc. Also, not everyone has a phone or always has one on hand. It just feels very unsafe to assume that you can warn everyone, no matter where they are. Also, the dog thing is mostly in smaller cities and towns or at places where it won't cause problems. An example would be walking areas. Officially, dogs off leash are illegal but as long as your dog listens and doesn't disturb anyone, no one really cares.
Amersfoort ❤
Very refreshing to watch! Very positive outlook :)
Little tip. In case nobody brought it up, but I've your stuck at one of the supermarket exit gates, just walk up to the cashier how's keeping a eye the self checkout floor. They'll be happy to open the gate for you. They rather not have you walk out with other shoppers. As that often how a thief tries to out of the store.
Plus actually does accept Visa in most of their stores! I never experienced any issues with my Visa. Mastercard and American express aren’t widely accepted, but even some Jumbo’s won’t accept those.
Maybe the fruit and veggies in the US have travelled already so long because of the big distances in the US that they are already rather óld'when they arrive in the shops?
Just to be clear; NO ONE uses hot air balloons as a means of transport, it's just a hobby for people to fly around or a way to provide aerial views of the country for those who want to experience that. Videos like this always make me appreciate my country even more, when sometimes I've been taking it for granted. Thanks!
If you had children, would you relocate there? I have a trip scheduled, but we are considering relocating.
yes! I actually think I’d be happier relocating here with children. As of right now I think being an American outside of Amsterdam is pretty tough for people without kids. There are a lot of support circles for people with kids here and kids are just so happy!!
Welcome to our little, quaint and rainy country. Hope you enjoy yourself. Greetings from Breda
lil tip if they accept ur card they usualy have a sticker on the door
that mom was like hey stop trying to kidnap my kid
The most advanced technology is used to keep produce fresh in special warehouses.
We can buy our groceries easy with a normal bank card in the Netherlands. The fact that our fruit and vegetables have a long shelf life is due to various factors. The Netherlands has the largest port in Europe, huge loads of fruit and vegetables are traded and transhipped in Rotterdam. Being close to the supply lines has its advantages. In addition to the fact that a great deal of fruit and vegetables are grown in the Netherlands (glass and horticulture). That also reduces costs and increases the shelf life. Do you have any idea how much commission they charge for credit cards? It is very normal for these companies to pocket 10-15% of the payment instead of asking for a very, very small percentage per payment. Certainly for supermarkets that trade with small margins, 10-15% less income due to payments to credit card companies is far too much. Many large companies, such as supermarkets, have contracts with banks when it comes to transaction costs. In addition to the fact that you have the idea that a supermarket is owned by the name on the facade, they are often entrepreneurs who run their business under the flag of a large group. They have the advantages of the big company (read: brand awareness and distribution) but can also put their own stamp on the sales of certain products or vision of business management. That is why it seems that every supermarket with the same logo has the same owner, but that is not always the case. Amsterdam does indeed have many more expats or tourists, so companies there will often have contracts with the credit card companies when it comes to transaction costs. Amersfoort therefore much less. - - - No, I have not experienced it myself that I can only leave a supermarket if I have a receipt. But there is often a checkout/counter where you can leave the store without a 'receipt gate'. They also do this to prevent theft. This store probably suffers too much from theft. Also most likely because many cashiers are now being replaced by scan-checkouts (which I am absolutely not in favor of).
Don’t forget to get a Jumbo extra’s pas and a AH bonuskaart to get discounts.
No credits cards in super markets (also not in Amsterdam where more expats live) but a debit card will always work, cash is never needed. The reason is that credit card companies charge the vendor. Almost all other shops (clothing etc.) accept credit cards. You do not need a receipt to get out of a supermarket, only if you use the self cashier.
Klopt bijna. Van de week in Tilburg betaald aan een "normale "kassa. Toch de kassabon nodig gehad om een poortje te openen. Maar is idd niet de normale gang van zaken.
I wonder how much the Dutch government pays these influencers buttering up the Netherlands lately. We're constantly in the news with stuff that makes us look really bad and now there are suddenly a ton of videos everywhere saying how great the country is.
From $37K to $45K that's the minimum range of profit return every week I thinks it's not a bad one for me, now I have enough to pay bills and take care of my family.
Could you please explain how beginners like me can start making this much
Last week, I tried trading on my own and ended up losing $3K
I have Charlotte Junko Walsh to thank
She is a licensed broker and a FINRA AGENT here in the States.
Sounds familiar, I have heard her names on several occasions.. And both her success stories on wall street journey!
“It’s not Djambo but Jambo”. Well actually it’s Jumbo 😇 Also it’s Plus and not Plas (which means pee or puddle).
I am a frequent visitor of Chicago and I love the city but I fully agree. The standard of living in The Netherlands is so much better, saver, relaxed, better health services. If Trump calls this socialistic I buy it however I have never voted socialistic.
Almost all of the cashier "kassas" have scales in them. However the self weighing is available because it is need for the self service/ unmanned check outs
Dogs can only be off the leash in certain area's. Not everybody follows that rule and you can be fined for it. There's probably a sign at the entrance of the park/wood that says that dogs should be leashed or are allowed off leash
The Dutch are direct, but you already know that by now 😜 When my American customer would ask how inwas doing I gave a honest answer. Nah, it could be better. I've had a rough week, bla bla.. That wasn't what he expected 😂😂 In smaller towns it is normal to greet everyone you meet. With a 'goedemorgen' or 'morgen'. In bigger towns and cities that isn't the case sadly.
In the Netherlands it has become quite normal to organize evenings for certain specific groups of people such as queer (which I saw in what you linked). In the more village-like environments, many of the cultural centers (ACU, it is just a name ;) ) are used to bring people with like thoughts together. Elderly people who are alone can then do something together, even if it is just having a chat. Very often there are nursing homes or many assisted living homes nearby. It was quite rude of the mother to address you like that when you asked if everything was okay with the child. I would have asked why you asked something, but that's just me. A short chat would have been enough to get a mutual understanding of why you asked that question and the reassurance for the parent that you simply do not know our Dutch culture. You can't learn to understand it if we don't explain it, right! - - - I have come to appreciate my country more and more since I have seen and learned more about how things can be done elsewhere. As a nation/Dutch people we are not perfect, absolutely not! But I do see that there are things that are much better organized than in the US, for example. Utrecht is a beautiful city, but I had the feeling that I saw more than just Utrecht, in the shopping streets the houses were too low ;) . I thought I recognized Deventer for a moment. I have lived near Utrecht for about 20 years. (it was Amersfoort) In the Netherlands we often do not stop to think about the fact that we are surrounded by cultural heritage. People often do not look up and see what buildings there are. We are so used to it that it has become normal, but it is not.
I'd keep the air raids, especially because its a tried and true tested system. And in the case of emergencies a phone might not always work.....
The land of the free means freedom of speach in an absolute way, freedom to carry guns, as little influence of the government as possible and maximum individualism. Here, in the Netherlands, we believe in being part of a society, contributing to the common wellness by paying taxes and by ceding some of our individual freedom and power to the government to mitigate some of these individual freedoms and powers, in order to have a more or less egalitarian.society. This should not be confused with communism, as many Americans do. The communists also (said that they) strived to an egalitarian.society, but they misjudged that every human being wants to be an individual and wants to be free to live his/her life they way he/she wants. The communists wanted to make everyone so equal (apart from the people who were in power), that they ignored the essence of being a person. And they ignored that people who do their job well, want to be appraised for doing a good job, both in money as well as in other forms of appraisal. In the Netherlands we are highly competitive. We are one of the biggest economies in the world whereas we are on of the smallest countries in the world. The way we do that is by education, innovation and cooperation. The boss of a company in the Netherlands is only the boss when he/she really needs to be. Before that, he/she listens to the employees, tries to take account of the needs of the employees and weighs all the relevant interests (of the company, of the shareholders, of the employees, of the clients, of the providers, etc etc etc). That's what distinguishes the Netherlands from Germany, France, Italy and the U.K. where companies are led much more centric with one big boss who decides everything according to his/her opinion. But that's just one opinion and no person can ever oversee every stakeholder's point of view and interest. That's why we believe in cooperation,. We even have a name for it that relates to the way our country is formed. We call it the 'poldermodel'. Half of our land is conquered by the sea and made into land. We call these types of land 'polder'. Since this is so extremely typical Dutch, we named our way of governing, which is also extremely typical Dutch, to it. Hence: the poldermodel The reason for that is an economical one. The Dutch conquered half of the world an were always focussed on making money. And we very quickly found out, that we made money when we got along with the people we traded with, rather than standing by our principles. We quickly learned, that when we let everyone say his thing, said that we will look into it (without promising anything of course) and give everyone the feeling that they were heard and that they probably made a difference, doing business went a lot easier. And what worked abroad, worked on a national level too. Soon a political system of coalitions, making deals, giving everyone a bit and making everyone feel attached, was the new system in the Netherlands. Because in the end, no one always gets everything he wants without making enemies. And in order to go forwards, it's better not to have enemies. So the Dutch found out, that a system based on making coalitions, give and take a bit, I scratch your back if you scratch mine, etc etc, was the most effective way to reach economical prosper. This is what the Netherlands made so great. As I said before: we are one of the biggest economies in the world, whereas we are one of the smallest countries in the world. We are happy to give in some of our freedoms to the government, knowing she will do the best for the country and its citizens. And we participate in that in the way everyone knows us: we are extremely direct. We say what we think. We don't sugarcoat things, because nothing good comes from that. So, if you want to live in true land of the free, move to the Netherlands, but only if you can handle our Ditch directness. Snowflakes and Cotton Candies won't last long in the Dutch climate.
Trader Jo’s is a German company Aldi
It is for us Dutch very unusual to do groceries using a credit card. Credit cards are more an American 'thing'. We just use our ATM card and the amount you have to pay is directly debited from your bankaccount. The only reason I have a credit card myself (as a Dutch) is because if I want to buy something abroad, but I practically never use it in my own country. Furthermore, I notice in a lot of "American tries Netherlands" video's those Americans ALWAYS wind up either with Jumbo or Albert Heijn. These two are also the most expensive grocery stores, while the Lidl and ALDI are more cheaper and offer also more variety in cheaper brands. It's also a pity you did not cover the self scanners at Jumbo and Albert Heijn. With Jumbo you take a hand held with you, scan each product and once you have all your groceries you give the scanner to the cashier and you can pay. With Albert Heijn you can take your groceries to an unmanned payment terminal, scan each item manually until you are done, and then the payment terminal tells you how to pay and gives you a receipt, which contains a barcode to open to port that leads outside.
According to the consumentenbond Jumbo and Albert Heijn are exactly average in supermarket prices. Aldi and Lidl are only 1% and 3% cheaper. Spar Poiesz and Coop are the expensive supermarkets.
Most real american food cant be sold here. Lots of american ingredients are banned here because they can kill you
In north holland and the south you have the gasstations that are open 24 hrs. In the east not. And every gasstation have a smal supermarket/grocerystore inside them
We already have them by phone, they test those also but not as much as the sirene. They also use the text with weather warnings.
Americans are shocked so easily. So it is the first day of the month at exactly 12:00. What a coincidence.... Have little gray cells and use them. Have sirens in Alaska: Russia is only 55 miles away!
In the south of the Netherlands we have in all cities , Eindhoven , Breda, 's-Hertogenbosch etc night shops open 24/7. The sirens are a general disaster warning system. We don't do small talk. Dogs in our so called nature are obliged to be on a leash causse of the risk that the dogs may atack small animals. Don't be so often shocked about all the things you experience.
You can have small talk in your supermarket in the Netherlands. I always have a talk with the cashier. I know them all and I know the names of their kids and they know me. A regular customer is something different than a tourist or a one time customer. Give it sone time and invest in start a conversation. You will be surprised.
Welcome, I hope you will feel at home here!
What in the world you need in the F …nicht at the AH ? What do you need ? Go to sleep if it is so dam fine good go back to the USA and go shoping in the nicht .Klaar is kees opgelost nonsens
My boyfriend throughout the video "heey I know that cat". With every shown cat 😂
