Easy to see why they need double deckers to serve this route. Lot of passengers even at this time in the morning, still Birmingham is the UK'S second largest city.

A lot of roadworks going on in the centre of Birmingham right now. Bus drivers need to have their wits about themselves at all times and employ many of their bus driving skills - I don't really think a lot of people appreciate just how skilled a bus driver is required to be.
I honestly don't believe bus drivers are appreciated. This is one of the reason I started this channel, just to capture some of the obstacles drivers face on the road and the things they have to deal with daily. They have skills and patience.

You realise this does not do the full route as it misses out the whole of Woodgate Valley South due to a road closure. It should turn right after the Simmons Leasow stop just after the traffic lights. It would come out again by the Bartley Green Business Park just before the Woodgate Valley Country Park car park.

Sorry, only Wolverhampton covers the 79 now. I was thinking of the route 74 which ran alongside the 79 and 78, which is covered by West Bromwich Garage. Then, there used to be the 75 that ran from Birmingham, via West Bromwich to Wednesday that ceased ten years ago. Better to have clarified that before I was corrected.
10 years go so quick but you are defiantly correct with your facts.
I remember the good old days on this route, when it used to go all the way to Birmingham, before the Midland Meyro really got into its stride, and restricted it to West Bromwich. Three depots used to cover it twenty years ago, those of West Bromwich, Wolverhampton and Hockley Garage. 7 buses from Wolverhampton, and 8 , I think, from Hockley. Now only West Bromwich covers it.
Thanks for watching. I do remember the days when the 79 use to run all the way to Birmingham. It was a really busy and popular route. I still think it was better than needing two buses to get to Birmingham. I even remember briefly there was a number 7 that went from Wolverhampton to Birmingham via Oldbury.
@buspass44 Yes, it was the X7, run in conjunction with the X8. Only ran for about a couple of years. Rode on it a few times. It met the 82, 87, and 126 along the way. Wolverhampton had the 126, the X7, and X8 on a direct run to the city. Only X8 survives. 126 is run from Pensnett Garage and just routes Dudley to Birmingham. And they call that an improvement in public services!?
@@stuartsharman3055 sometime you have to wonder who make the decision because they surely don't think about the passengers.
This would have been greatly improved by having captions telling us where we were.

One of the worst bus routes. Never on time late most time it just disappears on the time sheet. It used to be called 46 same then no inprovement at all.

@buspass44 Wolverhampton used to be a vibrant, bustling, treasure chest of a town. The problems started when they granted it City status which never should have happened. It is a sad, deprived state, but then do is Stoke, Grimsby, Walsall, Dudley. It makes me very depressed to walk through it nowadays. Other favourite bus routes of mine are the 934, Walsall to Birmingham via Phessey, and the 997 from Walsall to Birmingham via Aldridge and Kingstanding. These are some of the more scenic routes National Express offer. Great videos. I play them over often, as I am laid up with knee ligament problems, and can't venture out at the moment.
Aaahhhmm, "bustling" CITY of Wolverhampton? This journey is lobg, pleasant and stunningly pucturesque...until you glide down Snow Hill, (whats left of it!) and the grim, steel facade that is the shanty-town market, and into the flat-line deprived centre to the bus station. Come on, mate, Wolverhampton has,had it since long before Beatties closed. Not a lot of positives about this huge mass of car parks and empty tower blocks. I should know. I live here.😢
