Not true re no accidents. No major accidents, but accidents have been filed re complaints, and on RUclips. For example, AI addict was doing a video where FSD ran into a pylon before he could manage to stop it, and shows it doing that and the resulting damage on camera. Claiming "no accidents" just because of a random Musk claim is a bad idea, given Musk's reputation for making random claims about things that impact Tesla. And I say this as a long term Tesla shareholder (who puts up with Musk, but don't like his antics).

It's slowly improving, but it's clearly light years away from the Musk claim of "better than human drivers" for competent drivers that are paying attention. The progress overall is clearly incremental and slow, which is EXACTLY what all the credible AV competitors to Tesla claimed it would be.

Appreciate your insightful thoughts on acceptability of having people use FSD beta on public roads. I agree with you 100%. I also have and use FSD beta every day and on every drive. So does my wife. Even though FSD beta is sometimes challenged in various scenarios and needs interventions, I do feel that I can always take control at a moments notice and that nobody around me is any less safe than if I was the one driving. Your example of society being ok allowing a 15 year-old to drive on public streets is very relevant and appropriate. In that case your interface, as the licensed driver, with the car's controls is a soft one at best since it is through voice commands filtered through a teenage brain which then needs to apply proper steering/braking/acceleration without having sufficient experience in doing this. With FSD beta the safety-score-screened and licensed adult driver has direct access to the car's controls which are easy to overtake. I agree that the statistics so far on the 60K drivers using FSD beta appear to be encouraging. Time will tell how the accident stats compare with the average human driver and with Tesla Autopilot.

I think Beta testing seems reasonably safe for now, while the system is in its early development stage. The accidents aren't there, so it the evidence says it's not so dangerous at the moment. But as the system gets better, it will probably reach a stage where it's pretty good, but still makes a bad mistake once a week, or maybe once a month. That kind of 'apparently autonomous' car combined with 100,000 Tesla fans, many of whom will think they will have a robotaxi in another update, seems like a bad situation and is risky for Tesla. If your car takes you to work and shopping every day for a month with no problem, and it suddenly makes a terrible move in a tight situation where it normally has no problem, will all these testers react quickly enough to prevent an accident? Many bad moves require less than 2 seconds of reaction time to prevent an accident. This is a situation that Elon himself has highlighted as potentially dangerous, as well as all the other autonomy companies.

Thanks for the video, Dr. Lilly - I'm the FSD Beta tester that mentioned the gated community issue that we have where we live - and I saw that you entered a gated area that was not quite the same as our situation, but still had to choose between either the left gate (that was closed) or the right gate - and it made the right decision ... in our case, the "gate" consists of a left side area with an arm that the security folks will raise for any guests after the guest has given the guards some info (like who they are visiting, etc.) and there is the right side area that has its own arm that will automatically raise if your car has the magic resident sticker on the rear window of the left side of the car - there is actually a red stop light that our Model Y seems to recognize, so it slows down to stop - but when it gets close enough, the sticker is detected and the right side gate arm raises automatically - and our Model Y will then proceed - but it doesn't always choose the correct side because it depends on where it will be going just after passing through the gate - if the map says to turn left (which is just past the gate area), then the car tries to go through the left-side gate, which is designed for guests - but that is wrong - it needs to *always* take the right side gate since we are residents - and THEN it can make the left turn ... if I have given it a route that has it turning right after the gate, it will choose the right side gate (which is correct) since it knows it will be needing to turn right ... if the route tells it to go straight just after the gate, it will sometimes make the right choice, but sometimes make the wrong choice (it depends on how we've entered the gate area - either making a left turn into the gate area or coming from the other direction, making a right turn into the gate area) - so I think the eventual solution will be to have the car default to the right side if the gated area is close to your "Home" location (meaning within a few miles) - or at least provide us with an option to specify what the default choice should be when encountering a gated area with a choice of 2 different gates ... for an eventual Robotaxi service, this will be an interesting problem for Tesla to ultimately solve, although it's just one of those less common edge-type cases.

Great video - I just discovered your channel today - nice pacing of the video with both the music as well as cutting out the "boring parts" (I'm an FSD Beta tester, too - but haven't tried to record any of my drives yet) ... good commentary ... do you by chance have any experience with gated communities? We live in one and the car hasn't yet learned how to always use the resident side of the gate since we have a pass (instead of the left gate that is used for guests) - I'm guessing that Tesla will eventually provide either an option for how to deal with security gates that have a left side and right side - or it will just default to the right side (standard for residents of the gated community) if your "Home" location is defined to be within a relatively short distance from the gate (like within a few miles) - like yourself, really looking forward to the 11.0 release that gives us the single stack!

In the last few weeks I have noticed a couple of you Tesla RUclipsrs posting zero disengagement drives. I guess the next benchmark for the cars to meet is having disengagement drives in rainy conditions, rush hour traffic etc.

How long have you been using FSD 10.8? We just started using it for 2 days and it's very shaky when our model 3 does the turns. We did have her (ours' name is Tofu) do a roundabout, a sharp U turn and a couple of regular turns but it was pretty scary. It could be that we are not used to how she drives but watching your Tesla drive is a whole different story.. tips and tricks?

It's all very well patting an FSD system on the head on a good manuever, but the bottom line is always the WORST offence. In this case it might have heen a serious accident potentially ending in death. That's how ALL FSD systems need to be judged because that is ultimately how the legislative authorities will judge it on whether to allow them free range on the road.

A lot of people have been using the term "go pedal" since it's not as long as "accelerator pedal"

Blinkers are not needed in roundabouts because of enter/exit lanes (maybe it's just Michigan).

Flash the lights! Make it diagonal in the road. Do anything that might be confusing for FSD. You are the only person that has this freedom to test it

I would have expected the car to stop and slowly drive around once the area is clear. There could be somebody behind the vehicle with a higher than normal chance.

I think the problem AP had was not with emergency vehicles fully parked on the road, but with vehicles parked near the road, with only a small part of the vehicle intruding into the road. Can you try something like that? For example with only the left rear corner of the vehicle on the road?

One wonders how FSD would react if it had been dark, both with and without the fire engine's emergency lights on and off.

Uh, wut? No one’s ever claimed FSD has had an issue with emergency vehicles - you’re conflating Navigate on AP with the FSD Beta

It's was using the tu8rn spots to create distance between you and the lorry. If you watch the blue line it just nips out quickly and comes back in. Not ideal, but not as drastic as wanting to turn and then changing it's mind and then running into a lorry.

lol, the left blinker is correct. its left blinker until you are at your exit and than right blinker.

Hey I just noticed that the words seem not parallel to the Tesla logo(the second bottle from the left side, and words are at the right side of the circle) . It is not ''OK'' from me as each of them costs 250$ and I cant expect any error from Elon . May be it's an illusion but , you should have a look on it. Expecting a video of how they tastes.
