Winter Steam on the Ohio Central 2004

In 2004 the Ohio Central hosted a winter photo special. While I spent much of the weekend working in the shops on the restoration of LS&I #33, I did catch some of the outside action with Grand Trunk #6325.
Visiting the OC that weekend were 2 retired Grand Trunk engine men who had fired and ran the 6325 in service in the 1940s through 1961 when steam was retired. I had a brief impromptu interview with them in the cab. I hope you enjoy the video,

This video was recorded during an extended work session at Ohio Central's Morgan Run shops in winter of 2004. In 2003, OC took delivery of ex-Lake Superior & Ishpeming 2-8-0 #33 following a trade and purchase from the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway. #33 was one of 4 locomotives in an order from Baldwin Locomotive works in 1916. In 2003 Jerry Jacobson (then) owner/CEO of the Ohio Central Railroad purchased former Lake Superior & Ishpeming 2-8-0 Consolidation #33 from the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway. In 1976 Ray Krock, founder of McDonald's donated his private Pullman Business car to the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway in Nelsonville, OH. 1968 my dad changed the lights in the WLGN radio tower in Logan Ohio. He took along his 8mm movie camera and took some movies looking over the east side of Logan from high up in the air. This was before the US 33 highway bypass was built.

Prior to electrification, the pumps and mechanical devices at the water treatment facility operated by steam powered boilers and engines. Before the facility was made obsolete, my dad made some 8mm movies of the process. My dad worked for the fire department and working for the city had access (being from a small town didn't hurt either). I hope you enjoy these old movies.
