Eduard Spitfire Mk.IX | 1/72 Scale
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.Год назад
Today I'm building Eduard's excellent 1/72 Spitfire Mk. IX kit, but with a twist: I also built my. first ever diorama base, and I walk through exactly how to make one for yourself using just a couple of products. It's so simple that you can build one for yourself in just a single afternoon, and I think you'd be quite pleased with the results. The aircraft is depicted as a vehicle in American se...
How I Built (and weathered) the New 1/48 Tamiya BF-109
Просмотров 20 тыс.Год назад
Today we're building the new dual boxing of Tamiya's awesome BF-109. I had to overcome a few challenges and figure out how to do the weathering, but I hope you enjoy the result- I definitely did.
How To: Build the Tamiya 1/48 P-38G Lightning
Просмотров 8 тыс.Год назад
Today I'm building the Tamiya 1/48 P-38 Lightning as a way of learning how to paint and weather Olive Drab WW2 vehicles. It includes lots of oil paints and hairspray chipping- hopefully, with a few tricks you can learn from.
Eduard 1/48 P-51D Mustang | Full Kit Build
Просмотров 11 тыс.Год назад
Hello RUclips! Today we're building the Eduard 1/48 P-51D Weekend Edition. A very affordable kit that builds into a great model - out of the box no less! The model was painted using Gunze and MRP paints, and the stock Eduard decals. Thank you for watching!
👍👍
Out of all the aircraft modelers on this website, id say you have the best teaching style
Wow, that is an incredible compliment, thank you Chris! I’ve got a long way to go, but I’m working on it.
What is your paint-thinner ratio for that smooth/gloss and nozzle size/PSI? Your finish looks outstanding!
Thank you very much! I can’t take too much credit though- it’s just how good the MRP paint is, I’m shooting it straight from the bottle. I was using a .2 airbrush, and probably around 15 PSI. They are strong lacquers, but they work beautifully!
@@cj_modeller Sorry, was not precise, I meant GX gloss and flat varnishes?
Very nice build and in particular the paint job; I've always thought that the U.S. Navy F-18's panted up in ghost gray camo with the black Jolly Rogers paint scheme looks so BAD ASS! And, you nailed it!
Many thanks my friend! This scheme was too cool for me to resist!
Very nice weathering job. And, you have another subscriber
Much appreciated!
Nice build! Some interesting weathering techniques. Thanks!!
Thank you for the kind words! I appreciate you watching!
Man that looks great , I'm inspired to build a north African spit!
Thanks man! They are the best, 100% do it
That Satisfying CAMO!
Hah, my favorite color combo!
WOW awesome build and a great details of products used I really appreciate this information.
Hi
Great video. Skilled modeling and entertaining commentary. Reminds me of Boxman. Keep em coming!
The highest praise lol, thank you! Working on more as we speak
Hey I wanted to try that liquid ink trick but you said wet the plane with X-20A thinner...wouldn't that just burn through the paint and remove it? Even if I put on a varnish wouldn't the X-20A thinner eat through that? Love the idea - just looking for some guidance.
Hey Mark, your intuition is good here, thanks for the comment. Basically, if you’re going to do this I’d use lacquers to give the strongest possible surface. But yes, even then, X-20A will eventually eat into the paint, but I’ve found MRP gives me enough time before that happens that I can complete the ink application without issue. I found that It also matters how much X-20A you use, and if you flood the surface it eats away faster than if you just use a very light coat. Gunze may be even more resilient, too, but that’s another story.
@@cj_modeller I used Real Color Lacquers but the X-20A still ate through it even on a light coat on my test subject. I put a gloss varnish on it and I'm waiting for that to dry and then trying again. If it doesn't work - I may just go with salt weathering stencil and give that a shot at a later point. Thanks for replying.
One other note - I was using 91% IPA so that could be a reason it ate through it quick.
@@marklee3066Ah, interesting, that surprises me somewhat thanks for mentioning it. I’d imagine the 91% IPA is stronger than X-20A but that’s just based on smell… Regardless, the chemistry on this stuff can be unpredictable. For instance, I can’t really do salt weathering on MRP because even with just water the salt eats into the paint. But Gunze doesn’t react at all. The only other thing I’ll note is that Kris Sieber, on his F-14 that kind of popularized this technique, used Gunze. Either way, I still really like salt weathering so If you have to go that route it’s certainly no loss.
Nice build, what paint did you use for the blue nose?
Please show how you did the nose spiral! Amazing!!!
Haha it’s just the kit decal actually! Applied carefully, but it wasn’t even that bad! I’ll do another 109 soon and film that part for sure
Well done building and painting Like your work on the video as well👍 what blue color was that?
I am impressed! I started building model kits when I was 7. My first kit was a WW2 Hellcat dive bomber. Now I'm 49 and it makes me happy to see young folk like yourself keeping this hobby alive. Well young man😊
Thank you very much Andrew! Don’t listen to the naysayers who say the hobby is dying- it is very much thriving!
Great job!
Thank you!
i use pledge before and after decals. this i use a satin or flat poly finish
You can easily over weather/splotch the paint job.
Very true, these are challenging paint jobs!
A+mazing
Thank you!
Why are the stickers on the other side mirrored?
Hey Speed, they’re flipped so that they can always be read left-to-right, if that’s what you mean?
Beautiful work! Thank you for explaining your techniques. Question, what's the purpose of the texture stencil? Is it to add a rougher surface texture? How does it work? I'm very new to the hobby so I have not seen something like that.
Hey man, thank you! Good question- so the texture template is really just a form of “pre-shading” like people do on their panel lines. It just adds some variation to finish and makes it look less flat and more interesting. You’ve just gotta be careful not to paint over it completely though. Note when I say “texture” I mean just visually, the paint itself should still be nice and smooth. Also, you can get a similar result with a stretched out scouring pad to save some money! Let me know if you have any more questions!
@@cj_modeller interesting! Thank you for breaking this down for me and the insight. I'll give it a try this weekend. :)
Ayo CJ, fuggsgoin on? Keep this up....enjoyed it
Yo! Thank you my man, I plan on it
Looks cool.
Thanks!
Отличная сборка и отличный ролик.
Thank you!
I’ve got Meng’s E and F versions in the stash. I checked the E version and the decals say “Fighter Weapons School US Nany”
Hah yeah, there was some sort of legal issue there right? Annoying, but I’m sure there are aftermarket solutions around
The ink method is pretty inspiring, great video!
Thank you! And it is, it’s probably one of the few truly game changing techniques to arise in years imo
Nice build and thanks for the tip on the super glue!
Meng makes pretty good models that I have seen so far. I built the meng M2A3 Bradley and it was by far a very detailed easy model to build and was spot on with accuracy. Just my thoughts.
I have the same one in my stash. Awesome job. Idk but there is something to be said with a super hornet all weathered up sitting there standing tall with those big square intakes. Def enjoyed the video gained a sub from me
Interesting build and infusion of comedy. Great work yet again. Shame about the footage loss (it happens to all of us who make videos at some point)
its beautiful
Nice work 👌
Very nice......just need to get a Growler and redo the weathering video lol. Sub from me.
Great video, I like the added comedic commentary too. You've gained a subscriber from me!
Wood blocks from Amazon........😮
🗣🗣🗣Bring back the real voice
I agree: the Legacy Hornet looks way cooler than the Super Hornet. Good job on this "Mutha", btw.
😂 “Hairy stick mafia”
Enjoyed the Video, I really like the Meng Hornets, built the -E myself and really had a blast with it. Fear the Bones!
Excellent build! Could you spell the name of the author of the Tomcat book you mentioned. The book does not appear to be linked.
It's "Super Detailing the F-14 Tomcat from Dai Nippon Kaiga by Kris Sieber" (i think!)
@@paulhargreaves1497 Thanks!
Nice build. I have one in my stash. Looking forward to build mine as yours in the future. Nice sharing technique.
Nice work mate 👍
Thanks man!
Great video! I have now subscribed! Make a new video soon! Thanks!
Nice work! Learned a bunch.
Thank you!
question : you are chipping the aircraft but the decal on thos places look like new ?
Amazing detailing😊
Thank you!
I'm colourblind so yellow is my favourite colour. I think that adding the copper has given it a green tint. Other than that it looks great. 😊❤😊
Definitely going to use this for a diorama!
CJ, what’s that sheet with the weird camo you used for primer coat.
