Wow love the almost 3D look you gave your map, its visually interesting. Actually I'm currently working on a worldbuilding project and I'm just making the map, the history, the lore. Having a lot of fun with the map actually and I come back to your channel for inspiration quite a bit, keep up the work.

Great to see you, Owen, and watch your mapping! I like the cliffs as you did them ~ they feel significant, giving an air of Watching Over. Visitors from the sea have to be quite determined to overcome those cliffs, don't they? Goofy naming ideas? I dig out my scrabble bag of letter tiles. Roll two dice and pull out the number of tiles, then create a name. I don't have to use all the letters, but at least half is my rule. Sometimes it's stupid. sometimes it's fascinating. Sometimes it inspires me with a totally different name because ... whynot?! >g<

Another amazing map. Im wotking on a map that is divided into three, that can be a bookmark or a map splitted for some other reason.

You've got to do such silly stuff to set your imagination free. It cheers you up as well. I like doing such things. I wrote a random generator that generates ridiculous location names, and I draw maps with a dozen of them sometimes.

If you think of fantasy in modern western terms, yeah - maybe 4 people in a house. But usually you think fantasy in medieval standards and then it's easily 20-30 people in a house (end the 'houses are crammed together). Besides - it's fantasy, so you decide and then 50-60 people is feasable! It's only 5-6 families 🙂 Thus it could be only 150 houses, clustered into quarters/groups... Anyway, cool video - thanks...

Gray marker makes for a great shade, Or for the desert use an ochre or nearly dried out orange.

Thanks for the tips! I like drawing maps for my fantasy novels and these are super easy steps to follow. Your tips help to make my maps look like the fantasy maps in books I grew up with.

Great tutorial and great map. I cant get the tree selection for coloring to work, but other than that, my map came out fine.
