Unusual Retro Controllers
These are some of my not so common controllers for 8, 16, and 32 bit systems. I purposefully excluded the default first party controllers as there's not much to say about them.

😊GUN BIRD REGULAR STUFF./Stud.
THUNDER FISH.On LEVEL 1:
2:15 don't use those mag usb plugs, they're way too powerful a magnet to be within a couple feet of a crt.
👍
nintendo quest, what a scam that movie was! dude crowd funded $40,000 to buy all the NES games and made a crappy reality show "documentary" about it
What a library and most of em are arcade perfect ports my personal favorites are Blast Wind Darius Gaiden Sokyugurentai Donpachi Batsugun Thunderforce V and Battle Garegga
I agree. I think it is up there with the PC Engine as far as best system for shooters. Also the Genesis. In my mind, all three are neck and neck.
@@retrogamerrandomness1566 don't forget the Xbox 360 home of the cave shooters
Thanks for bringing me back memory lane. Had a few of these back in the late 90's for my Sega Saturn.
Golden Axe 2 was WAY better than golden axe 1 stop it with the nonsense lol 😂
Is there one that allows more than 2 players playing at the same time?
You have like 3k there. Ita getting crazy. I was paying less than 10 bucks for sealed Japanese saturn a few years ago. Now they have gotten almost as bad as the US titles.
Battle Garegga Pink bullets? On the Saturn version? Don’t think so
14:09 * *DON PACHI*
Musha i got it for 10 dollars.china remake them good heavens.
I am very jealous 😂
Don't be. You can play these all now with optical drive emulators. Get a fenrir or similar and just go. Save the money.
Awesome collection! Armed F is much like Image Fight, super challenging yet really good at making you want to go back for more punishment, I'm guessing you've played it a lot more since this upload, if not it's worth having a jam on. I am with you on FINAL SOLDIER it's excellent.
Yes. Thank you for appreciating Final Soldier.
Very nice collection dude. I wish more of these games would get released on modern consoles for those of us that want to play them but don’t want to deal with hardware that doesn’t have HDMI or mess around with emulators.
With all the ODEs abailable now, you can play them on OG hardware. I prefer the Satiator, as it preserves the use of the optical drive so you can still play original discs. The Fenrir and others require removal of the optical drive. It's a bit pricier, but its worth it to me.
Nice collection man, unfortunately you forgot to introduce the game and the "story" of Eliminate Dawn, too bad! Greetings from Bucharest Romania! I'm sure you will present it on the occasion of the collection dedicated to Shooters... 😀
Haha you're right. My story is that I sold 90% of my Gamecube games to fund the purchase of Eliminate Down. I had no sentimental attachment to them, so I thought I'd go all in on MD/PC Engine games.
i have em all too :D
can you do a top 10 of your favorite genesis/mega drive and saturn/import shmups?
loads of videos like that on youtube
I only collect sega genesis cartridges and yes i play all of them❤
after burner 2 cover very lame change but most lame jewel master japanise cover. change which japanise cove look like elden ring game.
g vector. stellar assoult ss.
Lots of repros in there. I personally rather have an incomplete collection than support the repro business, but to each his own.
I love trying different controllers and adapters. I tend to be drawn to controllers that keep much the OEM feel but maybe with a slight twist. Unless its for modern retro inspired games where I am always trying to play them with retro inspired controllers.
Totally agree. I end up buying too many controllers as a result. Lol.
8:44 You can play Radiant Silvergun with just three buttons, so you will have to memorize all of the commands for the seven different varieties of shots.
Yeah, I can never remember. I’m always fumbling with the combinations.
The N64 controller came out a month before the Sega Saturn's MultiController. However, the latter is the first OEM game controller with a hall-effect analog joystick, meaning that it uses magnetic fields to keep track of the stick's positions. The last time we would ever get a hall effect stick in an OEM controller would be the Dreamcast. 6:36
Thats cool and all but stick drift was never an issue with any first party controller until recently. Maybe with N64, but from my experience, if it was drifting then it was already done in before that anyway.
I thought the problem was Streets of Rage 3's OST was done mostly by another guy, just some tracks by Koshiro.
I believe it was a custom program that randomized beats and sounds that he was experimenting with at the time.
its not true that snes doesn't have a lot of controllers with snes options. There was a lot of them even back in the day as turbo/slow functions were desirable features. Most controllers (save for the TG-16/pc engine and probably some others) didn't come with turbo as standard. I own multiple controllers including that asciiware one for snes. And some aftermarket as well as 3rd party.
The AsciiPad SNES was manufactured by Mitsumi, just like the OEM SNES pads. Definitely the best 3rd-party SNES pad ever!
That explains so much. I always had a suspicion.
Funny to see you feature a Hori Real Arcade VF. I literally just got mine back from being repaired last weekend. You actually don't need more than 3 buttons for Radiant Silvergun. The X, Y, and Z buttons are just single-button stand-ins for the A+B, A+C, and B+C combos.
You’re right, I just can’t keep it in my head what combo does what.
I order my collection for geners. Platform, Shoot em up ect. Do you think is it a good idea?
I think it is fine, I have done that in the past. It makes finding games faster is some ways, especially if you're in the mood for a specific genre.
An hour-long video on Saturn "shooters" and no video of actual gameplay of any of the games? What's up with that?
Sorry I should have checked with you first.
Also hooked on save states. Just to convient
What a beaut❤
If I worked in localization for a developer in the UK/USA I would use the assets given by the Japanese for the most part. One of my friends worked at Konami UK until the PS3 era and his first job was localization. The PAL version of Castlevania Symphony of the night and MGS was his offerings and he insisted on the Premium pack of MGS just like the Japanese version, he insisted on soundtracks being offered for MGS . He insisted on Symphony of the night having the same artwork as the Japanese counterpart. You know what? Those editions from the PS1 era are some of the most expensive things on ebay right now. He also did Suikoden (possibly part 2 as well). I have about 80 MD/Genesis games from all 3 regions. The only game I have 2 versions of is Ghouls and Ghosts.. I refused to buy the Genesis version of Strider. It does seem that in that era it was a movie star or wrestler on the front covers.
Wow, that’s pretty cool to have some insider knowledge on the industry. I wonder if the attitude about localization had matured somewhat by the ps1 generation. Also, there may have been some regional differences for the US and Europe as Americans collective taste was very beefcake.
So what happen to Game console, Polymega anyway?
I sold mine. I’m trying to simplify my setup, I already have too many ways to play
Do you not consider Atomic Runner a shmup?
Not really. For me, it’s a run n game like contra and metal slug. I do thoroughly enjoy those too.
Nice one! I still need to get the genny doubles of gloc and afterburner but thankfully that are cheapies. You even went to effort of getting pal Fantasy zone. I agree with your assessment on that art for the most part but I gotta go with the jp art on Darius 2 and there deffo is a battleship boss in the game. .second phase I think turns into half squid tho lol
Oh, maybe I just forgot about that boss! I actually had the PAL fantasy zone first, before I got the JP one.
thanks 4 this, it was helpful to me
I love this kinda thing. I have a full Megadrive shmup collection and I think the only Genesis exclusive was Viewpoint. But over the years I have managed to collect all the Genesis shooters too and sounds like thats coming next vid. Nice! As for New Zealand Story, the Irony is that the game on any port is very rare to get here in New Zealand hahaha. If you think the MD version is broootal try the SMS!
Thanks a lot! Yeah, I think I’ve got them all, except for the unlicensed Chinese and Korean games.
If you are interested, I host a FB group dedicated to old school shooters. Look up 8 16 32 Bit Shooters
Forgot to say but we did get Wrestle War in Europe. They just changed the bloke on the cover from Hogan to a generic fella and removed Bruser Brody, the road warriors etc completely. Makes no sense why they didn’t just give the US the same cover we got and release it.
Yeah, I wonder why Sega was so bad at deciding what to release domestically. I feel this was true not only for the Genesis, but also the Saturn. Among other poor decisions, they couldn't get their act together.
@@retrogamerrandomness1566 it was very strange the moves they made. Eternal Champions clearly should have got a Saturn version for me as it was popular in the west but it’s been totally ignored until this day.
We got the Japanese art usually here in the U.K. but with the likes of Outrun we got the US art. Crackdown however we got totally different art to both regions and I like it better. SSF2 using the art from the SF anime in Japan was a genius move.
Whole heartedly disagree with you on Golden Axe…love the Mega Drive art for both the first two games!
A bit too much skivvy for me!
@@retrogamerrandomness1566 I think I prefer the art of the Japanese release for the 1st but hands down the western art wins for the 2nd.
Dissapointing
Get that stuff off the carpet lol 🤦♂️
Wow... I have a few of these but it's not really possible to buy a lot of these today, just waaay too expensive. Maybe a Satiator is a cheaper way to go.
Satiator is an excel option. I prefer it over the other odes as it still allows for using discs.
Fun fact Imperium has a weapon the the jp version doesn't have and visa versa.
Did not know that!
If you're getting the unlicensed ones too don't forget Magic Girl.
Nice tour, some great items you have here. Always cool to see what fellow PCEngine collectors have in their collections :)
Nice collection - had a tonne of Arcade sticks over the years. Nowadays i've gone the multiple pad hack mod route linked to a multiple input modded Hori 8button PS3 Stick. I also modded my Hori EX2 internals - pad hack with a retrobit 6button controller similar to your Astro stick mod. Plays great - cant beat arcade sticks for shooters and fighting games.
