An extraordinary story of courage, faith and humanity - a man who survived the murder of his parents, vicious slavery and racial prejudice to find love and acceptance in 1910s Scunthorpe.

The story of Scottish missionary James Chalmers and his second wife, widow Lizzie Harrison from Retford in Nottinghamshire, as well as his first wife Jane Hercus. All three died in bringing the Gospel to Papua New Guinea where Chalmers was finally killed and eaten - but the Christian Gospel had been established.

The Methodist missionary John Hunt lived in several villages around Newark and Lincoln before going with his wife, also a local woman, to Fiji in the 1830s.
