Wow, what a story…that was a long time together as a teen. Did he control you the whole time and manipulate into marriage? I hope you’re communicating healthy male-female relationships to the students thru your drama/conversations (i.e. group fun together as they explore what they’re seeking in a potential mate, not being exclusive so early, seeking the wisdom/insight of others who observe their dating relationship, etc). Thank you for exploring valuable topics like these!
Thank you for your comment! He had a very controlling personality, and there were a lot of factors into why I married so young, and being manipulated is one of them. Teaching healthy relationships is a focus for us! We want to teach students how to have healthy boundaries and communications with all of the people around them (friends, adults, significant others, coworkers, etc.). Since our focus as organization is on mental health we definitely encourage healthy coping and self improvement. A lot of students get into relationships to seek validation or as a way to cope, so giving students other more stable and healthy alternatives is a conversation we often have.
