If you wanted to build a character focused on passive perception, and you gained access to a legendary item to do so, how would you feel that this breaks the game? What situations have come up at your table that this would be problematic. You're likely level 15+ at this point if you have a legendary, and there are all sorts of shenanigans happening at those tiers. Passive perception doesn't have any effect on active perception checks. You'd notice just about anything that could be noticed by someone walking by, but when you actively searched for something, this wouldn't factor in. If you want to focus on something, there are lots of WOTC areas that are really strong, like building a character that can jump 100+ vertically or move over 1,000 feet per round. What would you change to bring it in line with the other options WOTC already has?

No other item in dnd that I'm aware of has a cumulative bonus like this, nor does it go go +5 so I'd max it at 3, and not have them stack. The rest is just a perception item.

@@one-barwarlord8280 I'll be curious to see what the technical editor says. He worked on both the 5e and 2024 ruleset with WOTC, so he's a solid reviewer. You can pick up a +10 to stealth with a level 2 spell (pass without a trace) for you and any number of creatures within 30 feet. I don't think a legendary item giving +15 to the passive version of a skill will create problems, especially since this is something the players could only get if the DM has it in their game versus something like pass without a trace which would always be available unless the DM specifically banned it. I'll let you know what he says when he reviews it.

In any case, I appreciate you sharing your perspective. I would sincerely love to hear what scenarios you see this breaking. There is such a huge variation I've found in how people play this game after running hundreds of playtest sessions. I learn something new in just about every single one.

I see it as more an item that changes how encounters are played out. You'd never get to sneak or hide things around the player using this if they have a decent perception. Instead I see it becoming 'my passive is 30, anything around I already see.' Which can ruin hiding things in rooms, dungeons, or even in the world around them. The item seems cool, and I like the other parts, especially hearing the past. Thats really fun

Indeed! It seemed like a missed opportunity to not try out what worked really well for me previously when I was sharing with others how to replicate it if they wanted to try it for themself.

I had one I preferred, but I split it. I also have a few pieces that are too big to fit on one of the better heights. I suppose I could just dig this one in a little deeper. Probably worth doing now rather than later!

What have you done to grow a real audience? I'm sharing what I did and how it worked for me. You're welcome to try it or keep doing whatever is working for you. I suppose its all about perspective. Going from 71 subscribers to 789 subscribers in 90 days and learning how to make videos, edit, talk to the camera, etc. at the same time is progress I'm stoked with. I assumed I wouldn't even have an audience for the first 100 videos. I'd absolutely define a 10x increase in subscribers in 90 days as blowing up. How would you define it?

@@knightvisioncreative The skills you are learning sound like a great outcome of this. I apologize for being overly critical, I think I was in a bad mood last night. You should be proud of the subs you gained, but don't let it get to your head. This isn't a blow up, you didn't figure it out and you still have a long way to go. Lock in and focus on quality content. As a consumer this is what matters: Quality over quantity. You can see this all across youtube. RUclips isn't lacking videos. RUclips is lacking quality. With the rise of mass AI bots producing videos every low quality video will get swamped. Numbers going up don't matter to me. Again, from a consumers perspective this is what matters to me. Hope this helps

​@@JFrogy no worries! Everyone's dealing with their own stuff and the internet seems to be the land of venting. I'm seeing the same thing in the art world. I'm finding it harder and harder to locate talented artists for my D&D books. I'm hoping for a change in the future, but not holding my breath. I just see no reason not to. Doesn't obstruct my vision, isn't uncomfortable, and why get something in your eye if you don't have to? PNW really is a beautiful place. I just had to go to Vegas for a conference and bam, the reality of where I live hits me super hard every time I see a different location!

Sounds like I should recruit you to pre inspect everything to see where I should hit it. The only thing I saw were giant knots, and I was not looking forward to breaking through!

Curious how you can tell from your couch that this is well seasoned? More importantly, who uses a small splitting maul for jobs that size??? Seems like you don't know much about wood.

I find it amusing that I've been working through the same tree for a few weeks and anytime a round is easier than I expect someone complains that I'm pretending it's hard, and when it's harder than I expect everyone tells me I don't know what I'm doing. Oh to be an armchair quarterback. I wish this stuff was well seasoned. Can't seem to catch a break between storms. Feels like hitting a sponge with a hammer these days.

It’s an amazing spot. Quiet, peaceful spot in the woods, yet only a 7 minute drive to Home Depot.

I didn't think the beginning was as interesting as the knot stopping the maul, and with only 60 seconds I have to be a bit choosy! I have plenty of other ones start to finish if that's what you're looking for.

Sorry to hear that, brother. I found shoulder injuries to be ridiculously slow to heal and impacted pretty much everything. Only thing worse was a sternum injury where it literally hurt to breath. Hope it doesn’t pain you too much these days.

Totally! Sometimes I need to remind myself this game is asymmetrical where the DM knows way more. You could use the same base for many games before the players catch on, if they ever do, assuming you describe it differently. Awesome, have at it!

I’ve got several downed cedars, maple, and western hemlock to get through before we head off for exotic wood. Tough stuff? I remember working with ebony, which is so dense it sinks in water. Scroll saw was fighting for its life!
