Philip Williams Home Inspections
Добавлен 1 июл 2015
Hello Friends!
I hope my videos give you an insight into how I think... and my passion for all things related to homes, repairs, and inspections.
Since 2008 I have been self employed doing home repairs and remodeling projects. Before that I worked for a company doing roofing, remodeling, some new construction and foundation repair work.
Also in 2008 I graduated from Emporia State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business management.
I currently reside in Chase County, Kansas.
Learning never stops. My goal is to share with others some things I have learned along the way. (And learn from you too!)
Thank you for watching.

Splitting Wood With a Maul / Axe at Chef Stan's Strong City

A short video of me splitting some wood at Chef Stan's Restaurant in Strong City, KS. This tree had been cut down for about 2 years and the chunk I'm splitting is a where 2 branches "Y" which is always a tough spot. Why did I post this?.... just for the heck of it.
Roof Leak Found

It is not uncommon for shingles to blow off. For this reason, be careful to use enough nails (as recommended by the shingle manufacturer) and do not sink the nails too deep. To quickly seal shingles down in the cold months, use clear "Lexel" sealant. Footage taken at the Pioneer Bluffs, Matfield Green KS
Riding Mower Spins Then Stops, Wont Start, Compression Release, Troy Bilt
Просмотров 107 тыс.4 года назад
Mower not starting? Does it spin a little then stop suddenly? Most people assume it's a bad battery or starter, which it could be, but often it's a faulty "compression release mechanism" which is attached to the camshaft. .....This device slightly opens the exhaust valve upon startup which reduces the compression. Once the engine is running, this spring loaded device remains out of the way by c...
Crawl Space Humidity and Condensation
Просмотров 1664 года назад
Why I believe crawl spaces need to be kept closed and sealed along with a fan blowing air to the outside which will keep the crawlspace under negative pressure and prevent dirty air from getting into house. For more info or questions, you can email me or check out "crawl space ninja" also on youtube.
1839 Log Cabin. Permachink
Просмотров 884 года назад
Kind of rare to find a Cabin built in 1839 which is still being lived in and the original structure hasn't changed all that much. This is outside of Nashville. Some cool things I want to share is chinking, graining, and the hand chiseled fireplace stones. Enjoy.
Patio Installation, Rublestone Pavestone

A patio installation measuring approximately 15'x17'. This is kind of a step by step slideshow giving you the main points involved with any patio installation. It is for entertainment only and understand I am not a "professional" patio installer. The key principles for a successful walking patio are: Use the appropriate gravel and sand. Use at least 4" of crushed gravel "crush n run." Use a pla...

Plumbing Drum Trap

a cast iron drum trap. It finally rusted through and started leaking. Some are made of lead. They kept a good water seal which prevents sewer gasses from entering house. However, they clog up and are hard to clean out.
Shellac Primer , Zinsser
Просмотров 25 тыс.5 лет назад
This stuff is amazing! If you want to paint a glossy surface and you want to make sure the final coat of paint will stick, use a shellac base primer. Made in part from the "lac" bug of some remote parts of the world, this primer provides EXCELLENT adhesion and EXCELLENT stain and odor blocking. It dries fast, has kind of a powerful unique smell during painting, and is really thin. The paint fum...

Same
Ok but what if it will only continues to run if you restrict air
How much do they cost cash in hand
Like 280 new and 212 on sale
I would have rather had one of those than the new ones today! Within the past 20 years I have went through 4 high efficiency gas furnaces! And they've all had severe problems because the condensation pumps would clog up the condensation coil dripping inside the furnace they also contain two pressure switches which always seem to go they don't even last five years before they start going. And the heat is really not that hot! I went back to the 80% non condescending single stage gas furnace and I've never been happier! Oh and by the way I put it in myself! Had a friend who was an electrician inspected to make sure everything is on the up and up. And I save myself $4,000!
@@frankjgornickjr3676 I did the same as you, put in an 80% single stage, no regrets.
Bey that kickstand pinched ya huh
When we lived in a house built in the 30's by GM in Flint Michigan we had a furnace that was a coal burner but converted to nat gas. Man that thing was big and not efficient at all!
Wife and I just removed our undermount sink last night from granite - what a job. One trick that worked for us was using an old 12" drywall tape knife to gently hammer into the crack between the granite and sink. They are quite thin, rigid, and long and worked perfectly. Highly recommend using a rubber mallet to hammer though because one of my hits with a regular hammer slipped off the tape knife and chipped the counter top!
What air filter do you have in use for the Gravity Furnace? My furnace is ground level in a 3 story apt building and dust from a busy city road is getting into the opening of the furnace, then lifting into the apt. I'm thinking of putting low MERV filters in the vents coming into my apt. Thank you for any help!
Great video thank you. I have a question for you about a riding lawnmower to belt. I changed out the one belt that goes on the transmission basically near the battery. For some reason this troy belt horse is gutless going up slight little hills and I mean slight little hill any suggestions?.
Mines doing the same thing but I turn it back until I feel compression and i hold the intake andwhen I turn it over it will spin for a second and sound like its trying to crank and then lock still like in the beginning of the video? What should I do?
this is awesome! thank you
I've been wanting to get one of these? How is it so far? :)
Very helpful, thank you! I don’t know much in home repairs at all, and sump pump issues in the winter is the worst!
Do these go in trailers alot? I think I've seen these in a couple double/single wides. Does that make sense?
You are a life saver! I was just about to give up and buy a new ride mower! Thank you it worked 👍🏾
Thanks man this worked for me 2
Also I've serviced gravity furnace,s that have had a blower section installed in the return side,of course belt driven
Yes we service these quite often over the years. Part's are pretty expensive. From the gas valve, power pile. Some modern thermostat,s can operate these systems. We have worked on 2 different types of power piles. The wafer which is wide, and the we call it the round fat power pile lol they are hard to find here in the Detroit area. Matter of fact I'm going to check One out tomorrow. A no heat call. The first thing, I'm checking the heat exchanger
Thermopile system. No electricity needed
Elm: Widow maker wood.
Be careful with lights controlled with 3-way switches with knob and tube wiring! The neutral and hot would flip flop as the switches were turned off and on. It's known as the Carter 3-way and was a very common practice in older homes.
True. Great explanation.
We had a loose neutral conductor on the drop wires, and all our power strips started smoking! I shut the power off at the panel. I called JCP&L, and the lineman tightened up the neutral with a special electrical clamp. He stated to me that the service line "pole to house" was too thin and needed thicker wire. He said they would be back for repair but, never did. This was over 10 years ago.
Tastes awful.
That was awesome having same issue thanks
At least wear the proper gloves
It's Greenwich ohio
😂 WOW! THIS VIDEO IS WONDERFUL! I put my 2004 Craftsman 18.5 hp to rest for the fifth time or so and this video made it see another day. Thanks for the information.
That's an octopus? My family home had an octopus gravity furnace! That still works today! As I grew up in the home, it was always comfortable even on the coldest Chicago night! But that one is tiny compared to the one in my brothers home.
Wire insulation smaller
Something he didn't mention. From the splice outward is the jurisdiction of the power company. The home owner has little say in what the power company uses. Other than to tell them that he has upgraded his service from 100 amp to 200 amp. It's up to the power company if they want to change the drop.
Now that is cool
I've also heard them called the abominable snowman furnace because they used to be covered in asbestos
How do you know if it’s 120 but who cares about that, how many AMPS is it? No you don’t know! Knob and tube ran a main line 30-50-100 amps and then branched off of that which is why there are usually only 4 or 5 fuses for a WHOLE HOUSE. So, DO NOT DO THIS - AMPS ARE WHAT KILLS YOU, and you have NO IDEA how many amps are there running through that wire. How many times did you say you would get in trouble or you shouldn’t do it well HELLO then STOP! BEING AN IDIOT. I have reported your video as being dangerous. This would be safer and recommended . ruclips.net/video/AG5KPuPRLSo/видео.htmlsi=WNmranppL7B_rJir
I have the same problem, all I have to do is rotate the top back off the compression stroke counter clockwise until it stops and then it starts right up.
My mower was running great but when I park it all the gas runs into the motor i have to pull the spark plug and turn it over till sll the gas comre out
thank you excellent idea
I still have one. It’s been working just fine for almost 50 years.. I have a question. Does the pilot light always stay on even in summer? I don’t see a pilot light when I was just looking after some bad weather.. maybe it’s never on?
you should shut the piolet light off in the summer to save on gas bill.
WHAT ARE YU TALKIN ABOUT ...SERVICE DROP TO HOUSE .....TAPS TO STACK WIRE ...
Or you can look in the NEC book and it states that .
Mine did the exact same thing, and it turned out I had to clean every electric connection from the battery to the starter. Now it starts and runs great. I went as far as ordering a new cam and it wasn't needed.
Bravo 👍👍👍🥰🥰💐💐💐🙏🙏🇩🇿
I have a craftsman with the same 17hp briggs motor. Thanks for this!!!
It's $60-$75/gallon now
This was a perfectly made video. Short an full of info. Also happened to be my exact problem, easy to test . Iv also had luck with manually spinning the flywheel. Less work then air filter method
Excellent video. One question. Why do you recommend going from 1 1/2" to 4" PVC pipe right outside the house, could you run 1 1/2" pvc pipe for 10 ' underground before going to 4"?
I noticed too that pushing off really helps im 165
Excellent video. Very well explained.
It worked for me as well ! I tried all the things you mentioned first ,battery, starter and then I found your video ! Thanks man !
I have the same problem but mine will not start.
