My oldest friend has a 67 Newport Custom.... same colors. 383 struggles to haul it around, so he's putting a 440 in this summer. He's owned many Mopar's including several muscle cars over the last 50 years, and he says this is his favorite Mopar of all. I like it too...and I'm a Ford guy.

Beautiful car, but that choke needs a proper sorting. That car should start in 2 or 3 seconds of turning, and then be on the fast idle. After a minute or so, kick down the fast idle to the middle detant in the choke cam. I have lots of experience with Chrysler carburetors, both the Holley and Carter carbs.

Sounds like my 64 Galaxie fastback with a 401FE and 3" exhaust with Flowmasters. Too much popping and snapping for me. Nothing really wrong here, I just put some Dynomax super turbo mufflers on it and the popping went away, but I can still hear the Howards Cams hydraulic roller cam 286 292 dur and 560 lift.

does the 318 have cats or just flowmaster 40s??

i have a 1984 with a 318 mopar if i did two flowmaster 40s no cats and true dual would it sound like yours???

You can actually hear the gasoline rushing through the garden hose into the carb and then exiting the exhaust mostly unburned. LOL I had a '68 Chrysler Newport convertible with the 383/4V. I loved that car more than any other except for maybe my Plymouth Duster.
