is there any way to turn this lcd screen off? I get migraines from screens and would really help me to know
@Vpopov81 not that I know of. Closest to it is a mostly blank screen.
I recently payed off on one and my lord the trouble I had Wowwwwwwwww. I change oil like every 3-6 months, forget the driving. Press on gas it trembles, but that God it takes me to work and back till I get rid of it.
Bought my 2017 used with 19k miles. Now have 91k miles. I change the oil every 3k miles with cheapest Walmart oil and filter, and have only had to replace batteries, alternator, brakes and transmissionfluid...about to change spark plugs and coolant. Routine maintenance is paramount to long life.
It takes balls to eat your own corporate mascot this game was so fucking metal
I'm an idiot and bought a 2016 Equinox, 2.4L and has AWD with 222k miles on the odometer. I assumed seeing the high miles it must be reliable. Wish me luck lol
@@Lincolnator721 hopefully it's great for you. There are good ones out there.
@@timmypstyle I hope so, I'll get the special oil cap like others have mentioned and keep up on the dexos engine oil changes
@@timmypstyle I just went for a 100 mile drive and my best average fuel economy is 29.7 MPG. How accurate is this? I had a 2015 Kia Soul which fuel economy gauge was always 4-5 MPG too high, going by my manual calculations. So, it would say 33 MPG but was actually 28-29 MPG. I'll say even 24.7-25.7 MPG would be impressive for this vehicle!
@Lincolnator721 If it's all wheel drive, I'd say 26-27 since that's what mine got. If it's front wheel drive, it very well could be close to 29. Only way to tell for sure is calculate it at the gas pump, or get a device that calibrates to your vehicle like the one i have. I have one(scangauge 2, which is a code reader and has gauges) on my 06 trailblazer and have had it on 3 other vehicles. Once calibrated, it's only 0.1 or 0.2 mpgs off.
@@timmypstyle 26-27! that's very impressive. I might consider the scanguage 2. I'll start off with calculating at the gas pump. Loving the way it rides. Smooth yet also firm, and pretty quiet even
I have a 2012 equinox with the 6 cylinder and it’s been a great car. My grandson is driving it now.
@@stevenjames5419 that's great! This video is only about the 2.4L 4 cylinder ones. The V6 ones are pretty much average reliability.
I love GM W body cars!!!!
@skylarscales9922 unfortunately this one became undrivable recently from rust and other issues and got sold. I do miss it already tho.
@@timmypstyle I’m sorry to hear that. Maybe someday soon you can get another one!!
@skylarscales9922 I dunno, I've had 2 now. An 03 SS and the 06. I liked the 06, but the transmissions are weak in them, and they develop electrical issues/glitches. I think my time with Monte Carlos is up. Maybe an 06 or 07 SS 5.3L later, but I have probably 10 other cars on my list I'd be trying to get before I'd go for another monte. I still have my challenger and my 06 trailblazer. But next toy car I'd want is a 98-02 trans am ws6. That's actually my dream car. Had a 96 trans am 20 years ago but hydroplaned on a curve and totalled it.
there a good car
@mikedavis8071 no, they really aren't, unless you get a V6, which this video is not talking about. The 2.4L has had 3 class action lawsuits, they can burn over 1qt of oil per 500 miles in some cases, bad PCV design that can lead to rear main seal failure at any time when it's 20⁰F or below outside, which will lead to a blown engine in probably 75% of the cars that experience the rear main seal failure. New replacement engines are made exactly the same, so even the newer engines that have been used to cover engines under the lawsuits are prone to the same symptoms. Also many need timing chains replaced at round 100k miles, plus transmissions and transfer cases are below average reliability, plus the eco mode actually results in the oil burning problem starting earlier than cars that haven't used eco mode as much. Plus shifter buttons stop working after very little use on most. They definitely are NOT good cars.
Bought used 2014, gas, oil eater, but hey, an oil bg flush works, along with bg's fuel 101 cleaner to clean injectors, and boost gas mileage
The biggest problem is the setting on oil change indicator at least on 2012 was way too long and people would run them dry almost like I did...but it runs good but uses a quart every 1500 miles...I change it every 6 months now
Finally a video explaining & showing how to work it. I bought my Equinox used & it didn't come with a user manual. Had no idea how to work it. Thank you so much! Life saver!
This video helped me a lot. Thanks man. Just added this to my 1995 Tacoma.
Excellent informative video. Thanks so much for posting.👌🏼👍🏼
I didn’t use it. I bought it this way I mean the transmission runs good but when you try to use it in manual, it does not work at all. It does not shift gears or it goes into second from first. It’s weird. It’s like messed up really bad I think but when I was driving it today, I put it in manual mode and it didn’t go past the first gear and I put it in driving and went back to manual and then it swap gears over.
How do you fix this problem where it don’t work I bought it and it’s not been working since we got it and the only way it will shift if I put it in drive into the manual gear I have to do it while I’m driving, but the buttons do not work. Do you know how to fix that by chance or how I would get that fixed so when I’m towing something I can actually use that
Finally a Clear answer that doesn’t involve BS. Thank you 👍🏽
Thank you! Your video was super helpful!
great explanation, thank you. I just bought my first equinox 2016 and havent read the manual yet and decided to watch youtube first to get up to speed a little
does anyone have a video or instructions on how to replace the knob ? mine doesn't work anymore.
My 2015 equinox ltz has the 3.6, 63000 miles and seams rock solid.
@williamrose662 yeah the 3.6L is 100x better than the 2.4L I4. This video is only about the 2.4L vehicles. The 3.6L only has timing chain issues, bit not too many have the issues. Still good to have them looked at around 100k miles.
@@timmypstyle I some how found one with 62400 miles on it. Its 9 years old.
@williamrose662 Nice! I have slightly less on my 15 challenger(60,300) but I bought it in 2017 with 37,000 on it. I no longer have my equinox tho. Sold it and bought a 2006 trailblazer with 114k miles almost 2 years ago. It has about 131k now. And just sold my 06 monte carlo a few weeks ago with only 106k on it. Bought it in 2017 with 62k on it lol.
Good stuff big guy. Thanks for the help.
I am trying to set the option screen to speed limit ama the tire pressure choices

Hello I don't have the USB or cd or aux lit up😢 it's grayed out I bought this used 2012 chevy equinox helppppp! Can't play songs off my phone but I can call ? So this is confusing
@@MichelleStultz-wl1ho I'm not positive, but I think the 2012 models weren't able to play music.
On the 2013 terrain Denali they aren’t touch screen…unless mine is broke
Thanx. Same Radio, Too. IRON HEAD!!! 🤘🏽
These vehicles are junk. 2.4L engine are trash. Oil consumption. 2 qts of oil on a recent 450 mile trip. Replaced 8 engine sensors in the past 6 months. I have put 4K miles on vehicle in 6 months. 151K 2013. Needs a timing chain and guides now. I have put $700 in parts on this vehicle in 6 months. Won’t start P0017 code. Crank to Cam correlation. I was given the vehicle and should have sold it for $750 to the first taker. Or I should put a Toyota engine and transmission in it from a 2002 Sienna. That would make it bulletproof. Haha
Thank you for the forewarnings. Knew about the need for regular oil changes. You try to research any car used or new. Sad but its gotten to the point if its not a honda or toyota you wont have piece of mind. The domestics have too many problems. You are right the Equinox is a nice medium sized Suv, but reliabilty needs big time improvement.
How do you change the language on that?
@anthonymcnary7068 honestly don't know, sorry
It’s kinda suspicious everyone had a reliable vehicle I think some are real and some are bots
I must not have the same radio in my 2014 GMC Terrain. Because I don't have a Bluetooth option after I pair my phone with the stereo.
my first GMC never again timing chain broke at 80000 fuckin junk GMC knew it where's the recall...
I have a opportunity to buy a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox · LS Sport Utility 4D for 5k with check engine light on should i do it
That depends on a bunch if things. Mileage, if you're paying cash(many who had car paymebts were paying for an un usable car after a couple years and couldn't afford to trade it in because of the high rollover onto a new loan) , and what the check engine light is on for.
Vehicle is trash. Common sense alone tells you this. You are going to have to replace the motor by 150k. Cost 4-7k. Race Honda build is the same cost with bullet proof parts. Get this trash off the market. They should refund anyone who owns this garbage.
Hmmm, mine has over 240k on it and no real issues.. it needs a new fuel filter and a few other things though
Glad to hear it! These issues i mention aren't going to happen to every vehicle. It's just a very high percentage of failures compared to other vehicles failure rates.
I have a 2014 with 241000 miles on it no issues
Glad to hear it!
I just got a 2017 equinox today I love it
Glad to hear it! But if you have the 4 cylinder engine, please still keep a eye on the things I mention in the part 1 and part 2 videos to help keep it running well. Do not go over 3500 miles per oil change, watch your oil level by checking it weekly. Then if you don't notice the level dropping, change that interval to 2 weeks and keep that routine. If it starts burning oil, you will catch it before it does any damage. Also do not use the Eco button, as it has been directly linked to the piston rings having issues earlier than vehicles that don't use eco mode.
watch enough of these "don't buy this or that" vehicle videos , you should not buy anything at all and just get yourself a horse instead. remember to always take these with a grain of salt, people are ALWAYS fast and loud about complaining. The experience of a handfull online does not mean ALL vehicles will have these problems.
I never said all of them have problems. But the 3 class action lawsuits over the same engine issues will tell you all you need to know. And now lawsuits with all of the truck/suv engines over the same issues. I explain all of the issues between both part 1 and part 2. They are 100% facts whether you believe them or not. I made these videos to help people understand what they might be getting themselves into, and to help those with issues try to figure out what parts theirs might need looked at. I am ot bashing at all, bashing is using opinions to say if something is good or not. I'm just bringing facts in front of peoples' faces. Every company cut corners after the 2008/2009 bailout. Even ford, because they took a government loan out beforehand so they still had money. But they still sold off a bunch of their companies to stay afloat. Either way, you can look at the comments of good vs bad experiences and see that it's not just a "handful" of the equinox and it's platform that are bad. And I also see the many posts in the Facebook groups I belong to about these things blowing their engines. Also if you notice, I have replied to MANY people on my videos who have said theirs is still fine, and I am truly happy for them. I wouldn't be saying I'm glad to hear they aren't having issues if I was bashing these vehicles. But I do tell people to still watch out for the issues I mention, and to check their oil level often, so they can keep their vehicles running well. Because I am doing these to help potential buyers and current owners understand the issues they may face as an owner.
Wait if time sorry
Bro ,was hoping this video was to fix a broken one.
I have a 2014 2.4 terrain slt awd, bought it with rebuilt title when had around 30k miles. Only paid $6,999 that was around 4 years ago, so figured low mile suv with awd I could use for winter. Wife liked it, so she's driven it daily and has around 70,000 miles now, so we got our money worth. I have no oil blow by, I did put a gm venting oil cap to be safe. Only issue, would stall startups, then run fine, never stalled when driving. Found a youtube video saying add a oil thickener, I added bardahl no smoke, about 1/2 the bottle, approx 8 oz, has never stalled since adding the oil thickener. This was 3 years ago I discovered the oil thickener stopped the stalling. If I don't add it after oil change it stalls, so is just part of my oil changes now, uses very little oil between changes. I'm happy with what I paid and been reliable. No engine codes at all.
Glad to hear it! You definitely got your money's worth.
I purchased a 2014 Equinox 1LT in 2020 for 5K with 180K miles on it! I now have 210K miles and the only repair I made was replacing the water pump. I don’t have any oil consumption issues and I change my oil every 5K miles.
Glad to hear it! Did it ever have it's engine replaced? That's great if it's on it's original engine.
@timmypstyle It still has the original motor. It was a fleet vehicle with good maintenance records. The only reason I purchased it because it was 5K and it was the color I was looking (dark grey) with the black interior! So I got a real good deal!
My advise, check your oil every time you go to get in your equinox. Mine has 243000 miles and runs identically to most of the comments on this video and has the same problems. It was an economy SUV that wasn’t clearly quite designed for the average Joe. If you’ve had a few beaters before you purchased one of these then you might have learned how to maintain a high maintenance car like these Edit: my eco button cause my car to straight up misfire when idling. I’ve replaced VVT solenoids and still does it. Don’t need it tho lol
Thank you for your comment.
Just say you don’t know how to take care of your car 😭😂😂😂
I just got a 2010 Equinox and this was so helpful! Thank you!
My 2016 Terran has over 130000 took me cross country 2 time and down south a lot and I’ve had no issues but I am looking to get a new car but she was a damn good ride
Glad to hear it was a good car from you.
My 2010 equinox awd lt has 230,000 on it, I have replaced essentially everything including the motor. This car is an absolute beast, taken me across the country many times, winter in WI is a breeze, and I have never felt safer. Only problem is it breaks a fuckn lot, shit just breaks after a while. Just replace it and keep runnin.
I own a 2013 Equinox 2.4 and I have no issues with it. Mainly because it has always had synthetic oil and regular maintenance. At just over 160k miles, it's still running strong.
Glad to hear it. But it IS still susceptible to having every issue I mention. But the regular maintenance definitely helps.
My daughter has one. It just got it's 4th engine.
Wow. That's probably the worst case I've heard about these.
@@timmypstyle she called me just now. No joke. The car is stalling and jerking. I said take it back. They also put a new radiator for some reason.
@user-pu1gw4kp3o wow. That's crazy. I know jerking is a symptom of the VVT solenoids, but not the definite culprit. They go bad fairly often too. If they used her old stuff n the new engine, it could be a possibility. But if they replaced those along with the engine, most likely not it.
One thing for sure. Butt hurt people are everywhere. They have no idea what they are commenting on.
My 2015 has 190,000 I guess with the mileage the oil consumption would be normal for a 70 model 305 with bad rings 😂I literally use a Quart Every week No matter What Hope My Engine is Like a Rock Originally had 28,000 🤷
I hope it is too. But honestly; you got a good life out of that thing already.
