In Accolades, a wide range of musicians, composers, and songwriters praise and present their treasured gems. Contributors from Steve Albini to “Weird Al” Yankovic, from Julien Baker to Margo Price, present accolades to cherished colleagues, to amazing actors and authors, to admired activists and athletes, to precious poets and esteemed engineers. Belgian-based illustrator Tom De Geeter thoughtfully curated this lineup of contributors. He interviewed and asked them just these two questions: who do you want to honor and why?

In episode 83 I talk to Tom from The Cool Greenhouse about Ben Wallers, also known as The Rebel. He is the frontman, guitarist, vocalist and songwriter for the band Country Teasers. His lyrics often deal with taboo subjects such as racism, sexism and xenophobia from first-person standpoints. Lucinda’s music changed my f’ing life. ❤
Love and miss you so much, Duke . You did more than enough for Four Tops legacy. I hope you, levi, Lawrence, and Obie are together again. In my mind, there will always be the four of you. I miss all of you so much❤❤❤❤
True
What’s the music/ artists on this soundtrack? Please/ thank you
"Got a bottle of knob creek and a litre of ether and the 2nd Mobb Deep creeping outta my speaker"
I walked down the road from my home to Woodlawn Cemetery to visit Duke’s grave. Never have I seen so many flowers in person.
On his tour with Spray Paint, he could be seen near stage dancing like a maniac
Totally!
Rest In Love, Sir! Abdul Kareem "Duke" Fakir December 26, 1935-July 22, 2024 "The Four Tops"- "Still Water Runs Deep" United with your brothers in song. Thank you, Mr. Fakir for being "The Keeper Of The Castle."
RIP Duke
Really nice. I love gilla band and it’s rare to see an interview with the members. One of the best Irish acts going right now and a huge inspiration for me. I’ve never heard of Joe Meek before, thank you for the interview 🙏
I fully agree! I'm 68 yo, been listening to rock, pop and country most all my life and only discovered Lucinda about a year ago. I don't fully understand how that can be. I also relatively recently discovered The Louvin Brothers and Mo McMorrow. But Lucinda, wow, what I've been missing.
Why are you recoding your private phonecalls and upload them ? No one cares that you heard of Iceberg Slim and watched the chapelle video.
I’ll just forgive your ignorance because that’s legendary MC Paul Barman speaking. He worked with MF DOOM, Deltron 3030, Prince Paul, and a bunch of other legendary artists. You sound like you’re real fun to be around 🫡
The intersting thing about James and Gerald, that even though they shared the studio gear together as Drexciya, many of tracks were made solo. The Roland D20, wich was such a big centrepiece of Drexciya early years, was probably Geralds main synth, as he used it in his later projects even after turning to new gear after 94. Seems like the combination of sonics of different machines inspired themes of the projects for Gerald especially. I consider Gerald and James true geniuses, mainly becose of how they navigated and used the gear they had, without following trends of the time. The big analog electro boom of 2000s is only because the use of old analog synths from the 80s was huge part of the unique character of their music. Along with inspiration from European genres like minimal wave, new beat and disco.
Academic ahh pimpin ahh capitalist ahh sqaure ahh. Gonna check out that record tho. Gotta be some good ahh samples on there
Most excellent. ❤ 😂 🎉

Great suggestion thanks!
HE GREW UP. HE MET SOME PEOPLE, IN THIS CASE, "RONALD BELL", AND HE PASSED HIM SOMEWHAT OF THE TORCH. HE ALSO SAW THAT IT WAS A HIGHER PLANE FOR HIM BEING A DRUMMER!!!!! YOU DO YOU ZONE. I'VE GONE THROUGH SOME THINGS THAT MADE ME RETHINK MY LINE OF FLIGHT ALSO, SO I HEAR EVERY DROP OF WHAT YOU'RE SAYING.
I HEAR YA J ON THIS ENTIRE INTERVIEW.
WASN'T A HUGE FAN OF THEIR LATER STUFF. EARLY KOOL AND THE GANG FOR ME. SALUTE TO THEM AND MR.ZONE!!!!!!!
I'm only halfway through, so maybe his name will come up, but I need to know what Brother Ali has to say about Aesop Rock.
The last few Atmosphere albums have not resonated with me as much as the pre 2016 stuff. Rhymesayers as a whole kind of took a dive after giving prof the boot. (Aesop Rock is still killing it though)
dang... as a fan for nearly 25 years.. I think atmospheres last album is one of their best of all time. To each their own of course.
@@lawrenceshdow so many other realities is pretty good but whenever, word and the day before Halloween were kind of meh and didn't have the replay value of older stuff. I just can't believe how many artists are no longer with rhynesayers. Evidence and brother ali both have their own labels now and not sure what happened with grieves.
Check out my songs
I believe Duke is speaking of Otis Williams of the Tempts!

I had no idea someone in Fleet Foxes was a Merzbow fan. I love that. Which track was used in this video?
A band I was in opened for Nina in Newcastle uk. I was unbelievably starstruck & she was so cool & nice. I asked if she could play too much in between & she did, she even mentioned me by name before she played it. At the end of the night she came over to us & said “thanks for being awesome”. I was so proud! 😂

There's an awesome cover of Gene Clark's Strength of Strings on the album FIligree & Shadow by This Mortal Coil...one of my favorite albums of the 80s. Also, Crack Cloud is my favorite band of this decade. They're amazing!
