My Solar Eclipse Experience
Join me on the kayak as I ramble on about one of the most amazing things I've experienced, the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse! Describing this event and/or viewing images and footage of it does not do it justice. It's something you have to experience on your own. Still, I'll go into detail on what led to me taking my family across the country to view this event. We drove to Texas originally and then clouds became very likely so we headed towards Southern Illinois the day before the eclipse.
It's a long video, but if you want to jump to the actual footage and photos from the eclipse I have chapters marked in the video.

Pickerel Lake Park - Fred Meijer Nature Preserve

Keweenaw Peninsula - Bare Bluff in Autumn
Просмотров 15Месяц назад
Clouds interfered with a predawn hike up to Bare Bluff to catch the sunrise but the colors of autumn more than made up for the lack of sun. This is a relatively easy hike from the parking area and I highly recommend it. There's some elevation changes, but it's not bad at all. The view of Lake Superior from the the cliffs of the bluff is so peaceful and, if it's clear, you can see the Huron Moun...

Every November, Silver Lake State Park opens it's ORV area and shoreline of Lake Michigan to horseback riding. This provides a great opportunity to ride through the sand dunes, along the shore of Lake Michigan, and through the waves of a Great Lake. Winter Woods

This winter there's been so little snow. One of the few good snows took place during mid-January. I was able to fly during the snowfall and capture these snowy woods in Ada, MI, on the Thornapple River.

Lighthouses on the Frozen Shore of Lake Michigan
Просмотров 1432 месяца назад
In January, I spent a few days on the shore of Lake Michigan capturing the lighthouses at Grand Haven, Saint Joseph, and South Haven. It's been an unseasonably warm winter from a warmer than usual El Niño this year. This resulted in ice pancakes and fractured ice as opposed to the usual completely frozen lake shore that is common this time of year. I was fortunate enough to journey out on one o...

Golden Gate Bridge Flexing in the Wind

This past weekend it was really windy in San Francisco. I'm shooting a big timelapse piece on the whole city and thought this sequence was cool enough to stand alone.

This was the most validating video to watch. People that have not seen one just can’t understand why I can’t stop talking about it. We had just over three minutes in Evansville… totally going to watch again. We plan to watch somewhere in our home state, Alabama during the 2045 eclipse. I would love to travel to see one before. Just like everyone says, pictures and video just don’t catch it. It was indescribably magnificent. Thank you for sharing… yes I watched every minute of this video. I’m going to check out that podcast.

Thanks Ray! So glad you got to see totality and thanks for watching the entirety of of my video. I've spoken with a few people who didn't know that there's a big difference between partial and total. Even 99% and 100% is so different. Hopefully stories like ours can help inspire people to see the next one whenever they are able.

Yes there are bridges now that are bigger, taller and longer than ever before, but it was this bridge that set the bar on just how massive these types of bridges can be. Therefore the Golden Gate Bridge will always be number one in my book.

I remember during the 80s when the Golden Gate had to be shut down because it was swaying, Swaying noticeably. The local news set up cameras at both ends of the bridge showing the roadway undulating and rolling up and down.... strangest thing I've ever seen there. I have yet to find any footage of that....

I didn‘t see it at first. But you need to focus on the red painted light „line“ that builds a bow between the big pylon in the front and the one in the back. You can see the sides of the bridge swinging up and down pretty fast! Looking into the middle of the pavement didn‘t make me see it (as someone else told to do). Liked! Unfortunately a lot of people nowadays have the attention and the observation skills span of a fish.

  • @stevebulota4687

Back in 1987, when the bridge turned 50, there were so many pedestrians walking across that the main span actually flattened out. Engineers did some calculating and said there was no danger.

Wow I see it if I look directly at the road towards the middle of the bridge, it moves up and down! That's crazy, and to think that this was engineered before a time when things could be simulated on a computer before construction. Amazing.

Just Cade I need to look at the line of street lights in the back to be able to see the bouncing 😉 I also found out the bridges architect was from german origin. But lets also pay tribute to the simple people and construction workers who worked their asses off to place this giant beauty safely where it sits today👍

They do! I've rode my bike across many times. On the west side (right side in this video), is the bike side and the opposite side is for foot traffic. Going north on the bridge, it's an easy escape from the city into the Marin Headlands.
