130 grain Barnes ttsx/ 7.62x39 real world performance #deerhunting #huntingrifle #whitetaildeer
My son and I took 5 deer with the 130 gr Barnes/ 7.62x39 load I developed for this season. This is a review of actual performance on deer.
It's safe to say this will be our go-to load for this cartridge.
We got consistent performance on all 5 of the deer we shot with it. All shots resulted in pass through, so no projectiles were recovered, but all deer were recovered with relatively minor meat loss.
Being meat hunters, we were very pleased with the results.
Thanks for watching

Quartering a deer without skinning #deerhunting #hunting #venison #michiganhunting #gamemeat

Opening week temps were too high to hang our deer. So we went with this method instead. This was the third deer I did this way, and we're sold on the approach. It will only get easier and faster with practice. It's a fast way to get the quarters on ice and ready for travel where they can be further processed. What do you think? Do any of you break your deer down this way? Do you like it, and wh...

This is a look at the Firefield Rapidstrike 1-4 X 24 LPVO. A friend of the channel was kind enough to let us share his new optic.. I don't typically do reviews on new gear, so this is a welcomed development. We take a look at the sight, the reticle, the red dot, talk about some features and regulate it to a Smith & Wesson M&P 15. Thanks for watching!

My great friend Dragan shared his new AR 15 for this video. I couldn't shoot it too much, as deer season is underway. It's a sweet gun. It's very shootable as evidenced by the total of four rounds fired. One was to get initial reference and the next three for record. This carbine length AR shot under three moa from a field expedient rest! Thanks for watching, and good hunting!

What rifle will you choose to hunt with this deer season? #huntingrifle #deerhunting #hunting

We all come to that point where we have to pick a rifle or two for deer season. This year, it comes down to ( for me anyway) the handloads that have yet to be used on game. That mostly means the 130 gr TTSX load for the 7.62x39, as it's the least powerful choice among this lineup. However, based on my testing, it should work well within reasonable ranges. How about you? What are you looking for...

That may be one of the worst scope placements I’ve ever seen
It's an intermediate eye relief scope, and it's the best you've ever seen.
Cool. I had been looking for a review on this particular Rapidstrike, with the mounted red dot, but I hadn't seen any until yours. All the other ones have been of the 1-6x24. Excellent review, it looks like you covered everything.
Thanks , I hope it helps!
I'm just getting into hunting and was wondering if 7.62x39 would be viable in the PNW forests. Thanks for the video
That is the first time I saw anyone hit center after one shot!
If AR owners buy then install the element 5 bolt catch you can work the bolt catch with one finger on the right side - loading a single cartridge in the chamber is better done by pointing the barrel down then drop the cartridge directly into the chamber and you can use the charging handle to lower the bolt down on the cartridge in the chamber then a bump on the forward assist set the bolt down on the loaded cartridge - as for hunting all of this should be done before leaving the vehicle.
Thanks for the comment! However, bumping the forward assist is much too loud for my style of hunting. I'm climbing a tree hours before daylight within 100 yards of bedded deer without being detected, and the method shown in the video checks all the boxes.
@@apexpredatoroutdoors8308 I can use my thumb to push the foreword assist and it locks in place so where is the noise from that ? You make a mountain out of really nothing. I offer hunting guide services in Alaska, and I have Easterns come for Yukon Moose hunts or Brown bear hunts and many of these fools are all jacked up on nonsense. I have had clients tell me to shut up and don't talk, so alright I shut up said nothing for the full 14 day hunt thy paid for sending them home without a moose and leaving me $25.000 for the hunt. It is the same nonsense allot Green horn hunters have in believing walking in the forest makes the deer and other animals run and keep on running but the same fools can't explain us walking back to came and finding bear or moose tracks over are boot prints or shooting a bear or Moose on the trail we came in on
I like the system overall but not all the claims that surround it. What is this more efficient than? The sound of your increased breathing shows that it is still a physical load.
Everyone has increased breathing while climbing. The microphone is literally inches from my mouth/ nose. It's one assembly without need of separate carrying considerations. Total weight is about 2 lbs, and it allows for every aspect of accent and decent required (climbing, redundant fallrestraint, rappel) It's more efficient than pretty much any other method of climbing typically used for mobile hunting. It's not just quieter. It's not even capable of metallic noises. It's faster without straining to be faster because it's a small variety of simple motions, all within the administrative work area of the hands. It's the only system proven to allow climbing with one hand.
This is a really awesome design!
Thank you!
About the dumbest way I have ever seen anyone hunt with a sling setup. Sounded like you were going to have a heart attack from being so out of shape. Take it easier and just hunt from the ground.
Thanks for the comment!
Hi I wish I had seen this before. I need to make one of these, they are still out of stock. please let me know.
Who is out of stock?
The only reason I want one is because of resident evil 2
Afraid of weapon
Don't be afraid. It's ok.
Your the first person I've seen doing this other than my self, I've been doing it since the restrictions where put in place and have had good results here in the farthest east you can go in the thumb area, but I'm concerned about burning the throat of the chamber due to shorting the case, what's your thoughts.... Also I'm leaving the C.O.L. the same as factory spec. Due to the fact i don't want to mess up the chamber trying to turn it into a forcing cone like in a revolver.
Thanks for the comment! Great minds think alike! I'd say erosion shouldn't be a problem as the round isn't that hot/ high pressure and the number of rounds fired while hunting is pretty low.
What we lookin' for Pa???
Trees with limbs that prevent climbing with 2 tether.
What state is this, and what's the deal with measuring cartridges? I'm in PA and live in one of the few counties in the state that were limited to shotgun only. 3 years ago they began allowing straight wall, but I've not heard anything about case length. As far as I'm aware our law reads shotgun or straight wall no necked cartridges. I'm asking because PA does dumb shit all the time and right now there may be just straight wall... but I wouldn't put it past them to do some.dumb shit like case length just to add legislation and feel important
Michigan, and you can thank Snyder for it.
Once my astigmatism got to the point, it was difficult for me to shoot my red dot out past 100yrds, I decided to try lpvo's. Range officer suggested I try something cheap just to see if I even liked using an lpvo. I got the Firefield 1-6 for $150. Liked it enough to purchase a couple more expensive ones for other rifles. But 2yrs later the Firefield still sits on a BCM build that gets put through monthly Outlaw Rifle matches and a few rifle classes here & there. Glass quality compared to other more expensive ones is obviously lacking, but in no way hinders my ability to use it efficiently. Almost 4K rounds later, and it has never lost zero. It works well enough that I haven't taken it out of rotation like I initially thought I would.
Excellent! Thanks for sharing your experience, and I'll pass the info along to the owner.
Thanks for the review let us know how it holds up.
that's why I was looking at the 450 Bushmaster.because of the stupid law. that's like the muzzleloading season muzzleloading isn't muzzleloading anymore.Tamia Muzzleloader should be a old time Muzzleloader not in line.as far as the crap damage go from the deer the raccoons and the crows do more damage in the deer do .they say I can have 20 permits for taking does out .I don't have that many deer out here to take out plus why would I want to hurt someone else's hunt that has land next to me.I hope you win I hope you win more than what you want to go in there for .good luck.
I have to ask, how much powder do they hold, and have you ever chronographed them?
It's a starting load of x-terminator, but no, I haven't chronographed them. Data says 1,800 fps.
What is the optic for that? I am trying to buy my first AR and am looking for the best hybrid set up.
That's a 1-4 Firefield Rapidstrike. I posted a video of it as well.
SBD
I like your idea, however, I purchased the Sladder last season and tried numerous times to perfect it. Unfortunately, I never was able to become proficient climbing with the Sladder. I was not stable enough in my legs and they continually tried to kick out from the tree. I had problems getting my 12 size boot in the stirrups. I'm 6'2" and weigh 235 which might be a contributing factor an at 62 years old I'm not as physically fit as I have been in the past.
Thanks for the comment! The sladder seems like it could be challenging, to me. I'm 60 and luckily still fairly fit. However, I really appreciate the input as it helps me see things I would otherwise miss. I'll be working on more stable options after this firearm season is done. Stay tuned, and good hunting!
Years ago guys were doing this with 45/70 to comply with Indiana rules. Believe they set bullets out to original OAL or close
Glad I have an 1894CB in .44 RemMag.
Have you ever checked to see if the barrels are interchangeable? The Savage stevens 320 has zero options for a threaded barrel for sabot slugs I'm wondering if the winchester barrel will function properly.
Unfortunately no. I had the gun for one day, and didn't get to that.
Been using 444 since 1977, best gun evere, never had a deer take a step after shot
Nice variety, God bless from Iowa 😊
Thank you!
The barnes 7.63x39 loads, are those handloads? How do they perform?
They are handloads. We'll see how they do on deer. So far, I've just tested them on water.
ruclips.net/video/v8Z__Q11ZyY/видео.htmlsi=cHKY6_i6QV00syb8
It was interesting to see the long eye relief scope on the AR. Handguards are not great for maintaining an accurate zero. You mentioned that it's for short ranges where a slight variance of zero isn't going to matter much.
This handguard is not like other handguards. My zero does not vary at all. This one is supported year and front, and maintains zero year after year. It shoots moa (even with the low power scope) 3 shot groups with the 130 ttsx. Check the video again to see the forward support. I can't detail what's inside that makes it work, but it works exceptionally well. Thanks for the comment!
Same as last year, and many years before that. Sako 85 grizzly 308. Boyd’s at one stock wearing a nightforce. 3-10. My fav ❤.
I'm infatuated with the Model 70, love at 1st site.. the caliber seems Moose size...😊
I took a moose with it, and a bear, along with coyotes and many deer. Thanks for the comment!
338 Win mag what's the meat damage like
No meat damage if you stay off the shoulder. 2,900 fps or less at impact is the magic number to minimize meat damage regardless of caliber.
These are all 338 kills. The one that drops was hit in the shoulder. ruclips.net/video/yntLCtFIoSo/видео.htmlsi=gsaLNL7xJuWbW4rC

Thanks, and good luck to you!
@@apexpredatoroutdoors8308 sooo any luck?? It usually sounds like ww2 over here in mecosta but it was more quiet this year.
@joh466 one down so far. There are a lot of deer this year! Good luck!
@@apexpredatoroutdoors8308 nice job! We have a ton of deer but nothing mature unless it’s a doe 😂 we have never seen such poor genetics on this farm sense before 2015 sadly
@joh466 we had an absolute monster mature 8 point on camera (daylight) on the 13th, but this is big woods hunting. There are other mature deer we've seen on camera, but this weekend seems high pressure. We're hoping that thins out Monday.
Hi, Great video. You gave me so many ideal! I’m a vehicle mechanic by-trade so please forgive me for the lack of a complete understanding of all that you say….. If I was starting a 80% build, the Jig has Hash-Marks for the A- Pocket: (my thinking) 1) If I didn’t cut “To The Bone”/ cocking +++, How can I leave (depth to the top is your set screw you put in the Handle Bolt) I could “slowly” trim the pocket + .0? as needed later. What do you think??? 2)The Alen screw you used in the Safety Mod what tap did you used, 😂😂😂 ok the dill bit too? Again I’m very thankful for your informative Video 🎉
Setting up , cutting, checking and repeating, would be extremely tedious, and only achievable on a milling machine. As I recall. The overtravel screw is a #6-32 and I had to use a larger than normal trap drill size. The safety is extremely hard steel, and very difficult to drill and tap.
Thanks for the fast reply. The safety Center section is = 0.322 and the Cut out is = 0.237, please tell me how much your Take-up screw take up of the needed 0.237 against trigger end. A video showed a small Tig Spot and a file on the safety would do the trick🎉 What’s your take on that? From the top of the Lower to the “trigger Bed” is =1.19 +-? The Final Cut on the B scale. If I only cut just aft of the trigger retaning pin forward to the 1.19 a then to a good clearance for the Take up and trigger mod. Maybe Im overthinking it but you started it!😅😅😅 Thanks in advance for all the help
@JohnnyGSE the small tig spot sounds like a good way to go.
What the hell are those?! Looks like a dancing bush
Wooly alder aphids
@@apexpredatoroutdoors8308 they come as blankets?
@ClintLCL ha ha. I have no idea. These are the first I've ever seen.
You got the golden egg gun.
Yall got some stupid laws
Great video. Honestly might try it. Beats buying a $400 saddle plus climbing steps.
Your not 6ft your 5 10” with socks on lol 😂
I saddle hunt. It’s not that hard. That there is a mess
That's development of a concept. Of course it's a mess.
DNR suggested to me to cut down 45/70 ammo the same way...too much like work, and frankly, rather ridiculous. Just purchased a .350 Legend instead...
One man's work is another's hobby. It took very little time, but I'm a tool maker by trade. Good hunting!
@@apexpredatoroutdoors8308 My complaint with the DNR is the .450 Bushmaster is an offspring (ballistically) to the 45/70 the case length limit in this case makes no sense. Take a look at the 30-30/.350 legend, and .360 Buckmaster/ .35 Marlin comparison. Whomever thought this case limit law apparently did not take ballistics into consideration. Glad it worked out for you...
@ralphbernieri3362 the DNR did not make the law. They just enforce it. You can thank the former governor Snyder and the state congress at the time for the law that makes no sense. I'm not sure why people are upset by it, because it's better than before when you couldn't use any rifle at all.
@@apexpredatoroutdoors8308 Funny, no one even wants to discuss the reasoning behind it, or who was responsible. BESIDES they make exceptions like telling someone to cut down a shell! THE DNR advised me to do that! Besides, I bet you a double cheeseburger a lobbyist pushing an agenda for ammo/firearms political influence. The law allowed handgun cartridges, but not in a carbine/rifle type weapon. SO, they change the law and now modern loading allows "legal" ammo to match/exceed older bottle neck ones...it;s a rather silly joke again invented by unaware politicians.
I'm glad I live in Missouri.
What kind of groups are you getting using this press while shooting?
I have 5 shot groups from my AR (7.62x39) that go 1.5", and my 30-06 does about 1" give or take. However, they both just have 2.5X scout scope and aren't target rifles.
M ok
Better than ok. I was told I'd be arrested.
Govareno Mente == Government. (to control the mind). Next time they might want to measure your johnson. This is getting ridiculous.
Thanks for the comment! The etymology of "Government" comes from the Greek words meaning "to steer" actually.
Get one thing clear, the CO's don't make the laws they enforce them. Just read the book for what you are hunting. You can hunt coyotes with varmint rifle throughout the state. Be damn sure of your target and what is beyond it. You can't call a bullet back. Someone else would bitch about the speed limit on the freeway😂😂😮
1. After reaching ground, how did you retrieve the ends of your rope that were 10-12’ up? 2. Are you repelling directly on the friction hitches? If so, any concerns with overheating the hitch cord? How often are you inspecting/replacing hitches?
I have a pull down cord to retrieve the tethers. I have been rappelling on the friction hitches, yes, but I go slow. I am also on 2 separate friction hitches for the first part of the rappel. I use the upper tether stirrup hitch in conjunction with the hitch to the bridge. I look at the hitches and the rest of the rig before each hunt. The sterling trc has a high temp sheath, and hasn't overheated yet. Not saying that it can't, but so far there hasn't been an issue. I have been replacing the main hitch cord , (bridge to tether) for 1 season and then using that cord for something less critical.
I just looked at the temp rating of trc. They're claiming 900 ° f.
What I'd like to know, is what kind of bureaucratic idiots come up with rules as ridiculous as this one? But that's what you get, when you have WAY too much government, at any level; supposed adults with nothing better to do with their time than to come up with sheer idiocy...and the taxpayers are forced to pay them a salary for their stupid pettiness! When it comes to government bureaucrats, less is definitely more!
Based on the history of the law, it was the local farmers that wanted it.
It's because of population density. Sitting in my blind I can see the house across the road and measure it 487 yards. The idea is the smaller straight wall rounds die out around 300 yards.
@@clintonvalentine1400 Wow! That"s pretty dense population for farm country! Not used to that at all! Thanks for the explanation, and good hunting!
I live in NY and I know NYS has a bunch of nazi gun laws, but at least they allow any center fire rifle for deer hunting. No stupid restrictions on calibers etc. glad you were compliant!
Thanks for sharing. The trees that I can safely climb in my area tend to be quite big (sometimes 2ft in diameter) and have really rough bark which chews through the heatshrink in no time -- your seemed to be holding up quite well. Where this you get this "tape"?
