Can you believe that this is the main road from London to Exeter, Plymouth and Cornwall?

National Highways have been working on a bid for funding to convert the three lane A303 Ilminster bypass into a dual carriageway for at least two years. Despite the fact that the current road alignment has sufficient room on each side to widen it to dual carriageway standard, their study for the bid involves looking at alternative routes! When I asked them why they were wasting time and money on this exercise, I was told they would not get Government funding if they did not look at alternative routes! This lack of common sense is one of the reasons why our transport infrastructure projects are so expensive. Sadly now the Stonehenge tunnel has been canceled by the new Government it is unlikely that any further A303 improvements will happen for the foreseeable future.

Redesign the drivers seat as it’s too hard and extremely uncomfortable and the courier seat is even worse. Luggage storage lockers too small and no extra space to store water, cleaning equipment while touring. Poorly designed and badly thought out coach .

WELL, I'd like to join all those on a memory trip. This route into Fishpnds, is like I'm sat in my Car, and driving it along that road, as I did for 25 years, late 70's to 2002. As a Insurance agent. I was so emersed into it, I kept moving my cursor away from oncoming traffic and changing lanes before the Car Driver did. Those Edwardian houses along Fishponds Road, still look quality, and well kept. It was a happy time in my life, and I met many decent friendly people.

Does not look side roads to me mate, looks FAB main roads with great green trees each side, lovely drive, is a superb scenic drive although going through Pontlottyn is a bit much but intesting, even so, still really good, never been on that road before but I would like to, of course been on the 465 but not as a dual carriagway? First class road and drive, What a Bute!

Wow! much better road than I remember? it was 30/40 years ago, but looks good, Hopkinstown still a bit iffy, but you can't have it all.

You must have been lucky normally loads of traffic on that road

Used to ride this exact route on my motorbike daily back in the eighties (well ... ok I used to turn off at Lodge Causeway but it's almost the entire route lol). Must be 35 years since I last did that route, still so very familiar to me. Wonderful bit of nostalgia remembering those times.
