How to properly use the new Lenovo touchpads/trackpads
I had a lot of trouble using the touchpad on my new Lenovo Thinkpad T540p, so much so that I was thinking of returning the device. Then I realized Lenovo's new touchpads require a different style of use than what we're accustomed to. After changing how I used the touchpad, I've had a much more enjoyable experience!
Note: You can alter a lot of the settings for your touchpad by going to Control Panel -- Mouse and then look for the touchpad tab (might be labeled as "Synaptics", the company which makes many of the touchpads out there).
Let me know if you have any questions or problems!

Thank you ❤
Thumb is much stronger. This hurts your fingers.
Very usefull, thank you very much
Can you explain why my screen is constantly being minimized? As I'm working I touch the pad somehow that minimizes the screen and It's beyond frustrating!!
Great , helped me get used to the pads .
Thank you, very informative. Have been so frustrated with these and hated using them, but now finally understand how they work. Surprised how difficult it was to find this information before stumbling upon your video.
I would have never guessed a two finger click was a right click. Very helpful!
At about 2:36, after demostrating zooming in and out, you said something about returning the screen size to normal. How did you do that? Thanks, Enzo
Hey Enzo! ctrl + zero. Hold down the CTRL key and then press the number zero key. It's a keyboard shortcut that resets zoom in most browsers. You can also hold CTRL and then press the plus/minus symbols to zoom in/out respectively.
If you want to jump straight to the solution, go to 3:54. Sorry, it was an unplanned and off-the-cuff video, so it wound up being too long. Thank you for all the kind comments over the years!
came here to say just that lol and thanks ! much help! i don't know WHY i didn't do this years ago...
I'm used to using a Mac, and this thing is enough to make me want to smash it on the floor... I very carefully click with one fingertip to open a new tab or different tab and it opens the two finger / right click menu. I wasn't VERY annoyed by this unit until I started trying to edit with a CAD program... I rarely goes 3 seconds without an issue. None of the gestures are intuitive. The zoom is two fingers scrolling instead of pinch and squeeze, the scroll rate seems like it's never the same... like it has momentum / inertia, but it's like ... Too slow, too slow ... tooo slow TOO FAST ! This is worst than using an old Dell from 1995.
thank you for explaining it, to my surprise I was not aware of it at all using my lenovo thinkpad which is touchpad sensitive :-)
How du u left click explain that right
WOW thanks so much! very helpful.. I can finally use right click!
i don't even know that the whole touch area can be a mouse it self.😂😂
I'm currently laughing at myself 😂 because i didn't know any of these gestures
great help, thank you
So basically how every other laptop works?
thank you so much for this ..
I prefer tapping to clicking. The only time I click is if I need to drag.
Can you get to the fucking point dude
Having a 2020 model e15 I was wondering why I'd loose sight of the curser, now I know.
why are the touchpad to the left and not right ?
@5:43 your voice was high pitch
Can't thank you enough for this vid! I just bought an old Thinkpad Yoga S1 and I'm starting to enjoy the touchpad now.
Thanks for this. It drove me mad for a couple of hours. I wonder why Lenovo don't explain?I
This would have been a lot more helpful if you showed the screen and what your actions on the touchpad were doing on the screen. I just want to learn how to highlight and copy text using the touchpad. It’s so frustrating how difficult it is. It should be easier.
My laptop is nearly 9 years old and 2 weeks ago after a windows 10 update the track pad (with 2 buttons) decided not to function properly. At first I didn't know what was wrong but after much trial and error I sorted out what to do to make it function. After I watched your video I realised that the update had changed my pointing device driivers so I went and rolled back to the previous drivers and all was fine until another update repeated the problem. I stopped all updates until May 20th@ 2022 and all is fine. However, I'm getting a new laptop shortly so your video will be a great help. I'm just curious as to why laptop manufacturers don't tell you how to use the trackpads. Thanks a lot.
Select and drag objects are not shown in the video
all im trying to find out is how to scroll up or down with two fingers, and nothing is working : (
Wow! You could write a book on how to cross the street. :)
thanks man
Thank you! Made my life so much easier!
There just isn't enough lipstick to cover Lenovo's klunkpads.
Gudd explanation
Thank you very helpful
I still think that having two physical buttons for the left and right click is simpler and more tactile especially for those with a print disability surely Accessibility is out of the window with such a device. Thank you for your video and instructions will try to simulate the right click by pressing to finger on the touch button Hopefully it should get the context menu app where I can choose options like open, open with, send to etc.
lenovo is worst PC I ever had. Their touchpad relatively is better among the lenove, right now I got cheap lenovo PC 2 years ago, I still couldn't figure out how hold and drag. A lot of time I want to throw in the trash. To save me a 20 bucks cause me a lot of trouble on daily life.
Your english is so good
Being born and raised in America helped ;)
Thank you very much. This helped much. Long time I was thinking this touchpad must be defect or what, when the right-clicking was terrible by clicking to the bottom-right corner, time-to-time it was really terrible and not working. I did not know that it was needed to click anywhere just using two fingers! You saved my day, thanks a lot.
If I want to write @ ,where will I click?
Man thanks so much, not sure why people would downvote this, it's a very helpful video. (I've been suffering for days after going from X201 to X230 and this solved this and even tought me tricks to work faster)
How do you move windows
Thankkkk youuuuu i was super piissseeeddddd before :D
The Thinkpad XX40 had to be the worst Thinkpad Lenovo/IBM ever made. Sure it’s have a decent spec but trackpad alone make it the worst and having a new weird keyboard design doesn’t help
thank you soo much my brother🙌
Awesome thank you!!! Addressed EVERYTHING I was doing wrong and my mindset.
Thanks man
This was so good! I was so frustrated with a new haptic feedback touchpad on the Lenovo Yoga 9i. This totally helped me out, thanks!
Hi recently bought this laptop and when i press at the middle of touchpad it stops at all and didn’t back at all
Jenuh belaja...tq
