Nā Kama Kai is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Waiʻanae, Hawaiʻi. We empower children by connecting our keiki to the kai (ocean) and ʻāina (land) to nurture a deeper sense of aloha and kuleana for the natural environment and themselves.
Holo Ka Waʻa | Nā Kama Kai Alakaʻi sail Kūmau from Hakipuʻu to Heʻeia
On March 9, 2024 our Nā Kama Kai Alakaʻi sailed Kūmau from Hakipuʻu to Heʻeia Pier to join in the celebrations at the Waʻa Festival.
We make it a priority to engage these ʻōpio in every part of the hoʻokele process. From ocean safety training, to knot tying, to Hawaiian navigational terms, and more.
By the time they graduate from our Alakaʻi program, they have a solid foundation of readiness and skills to enjoy the ocean safely, whether that’s on a canoe or a surfboard. They also have a greater appreciation and understanding of the Hawaiian cultural values and lessons in these kuleana.

This Longboard surfmeet at KUHIO Beach. 4 categories Sr Men, Men, Women and Jr men. 3 of us from MAKAHA dominated Da surf contest out of 4 categories 3 took home 1st place we all won a custom Longboard. Rusty keaulana Jr Men, Rella Sunn Women, my self Men division. Remember Rella telling me Hershy we dominated this contest and we all come from MAKAHA. ALOHA RELLA
