I purchased 2 of the G44s, one for my wife and one for my daughter so we could all go out shooting on weekends. I later decided that since ammo, even the 9mm is getting expensive for the amount we shoot, to purchase a .22 for myself. Although we love our G44's I decided to buy the Taurus TX22 because it was $100 cheaper. Once in hand and to the range I know I made a mistake and should have spent the money for the 3rd G44. Nothing wrong with the Taurus, but you can tell it is a lower quality pistol than the Glock. Between the 3 of us we shoot about 700 rounds per weekend. Even though I am not as happy with the Taurus, I figure it'll pay for it's self in a couple months anyway.

Thanks for giving this an honest review without resorting to saying it's just a grandma gun or only for weak people. You're probably the only reviewer that hasn't said that! That does this outstanding gun a real injustice. It's just a great gun for anyone interested in a 380ACP for carry or even home defense. Nicely done!

Really interesting comparison. I'm 74 with thumb arthritis, so my son recommended the EZ on the basis of his experience with the performance center one his girlfriend owns. So I bought a standard EZ .380. That pistol is the first semi-auto I've owned that - to date - has been 100% reliable out of the box. Very impressive. The only thing I can complain about is accuracy. I can't get it to group any better than yours did, at seven to ten yards. Maybe a little bit with bench shooting. But I can't trade it off, it's too reliable. So, I can either change the sights (?), or upgrade to the PC version.

After years of effort, my wife finally agreed to buy a firearm for concealed carry. I had it in my mind for her to buy a revolver since she had never fired a semi-auto. At 5' 2", 115 lbs, loading a mag and racking a normal semi-auto would be tough for her. Also, a revolver is not complicated and easy to load. Well a family friend, who happened to work at Premier Shooting, recommended the S&W M&P Shield EZ in 380 Auto. (The 9mm version hadn't come out yet.) The same features described in the video above were pointed out to her and she was impressed. None of my concerns about a semi-auto surfaced. (The price at the time wasn't bad either at $356.99.) But, she wanted to shoot it first to get the feel of it and to check the recoil. Since Premier had a range inside their facility and provided a same model test weapon, we loaded it and shot approximately 50 rounds through it. Wow, it turned out my wife was the reincarnation of Annie Oakley. The center of the target was obliterated and the grouping was incredible. We bought the gun. I've kept the target and have shown it to friends and family, she did so well. I was so proud of her and she always gleams when I do that. I wish I could provide it to show all of you. (By the way, she also purchased a purse designed especially for concealed carry. My wife doesn't mind it, but I don't like the grip safety. It functions very well, but you need to really grip it well in order to pull the trigger and get off a round. In an emergency, you may forget the grip safety and not be able to shoot it if you forget it. I wish S & W would offer it with a double stack mag and without the grip safety. If they did I'd buy one in 9mm.

Brand new, right out of the box the mag springs were so soft they dont work. The slide doesnt lock open, the last round in the mag can bounce up and down, 1 or 2 rounds per mag will jam. Smith and wesson said there was nothing wrong with it and wouldnt even switch out the springs and a new mag costs 40 bucks IF i can ever find one around here. Worst purchase of my life. My glock 19, springfield 1911 gi, gsg22 mp5, mosin nagant, lever action 1887 reproduction 12 gauge, walther p22, ruger lcp, charter arms 44 special bulldog, ruger ar556, all excellent for years. Hi ... just having fun with the Israeli (IDF) draw style, it's one of the training styles I teach here at DP. Chambering on the draw can be done while extending into the isosceles, or close-in on the body just above the holster. Personally, I like carrying chambered and the Glock has the safest striker-fired system on the market. (But, it still looks boxy like a Volvo!) Clint

What do you think of the Striker Control Device for Glocks? I like the concept of being able to pin the striker while reholstering kind of similar to pinning the hammer down on a DA/SA hammer fired gun as an additional layer of safety - but I've never handled or seen one in the wild.

I disagree with the reviewer's one-sided advocacy of the manual thumb safety on the Shield series. At least point out the drawbacks, which are the potential for failure to de-activate under stress, and the increased need for training to imprint gross muscle motions. Also, between the grip safety and the trigger blade, and with adequate training, the thumb safety is redundant.

Hi ... thank you, and I agree on the safety redundancy issue (that's why I love Glocks) ... but, I've found that new shooters are very attracted to lots of safety features - - the more the better, and for that reason I highlight the many redundant safeties on the EZ. I let folks know that S&W also makes the EZ without the thumb safety feature, but most chose both safety features anyway. Clint
