Echo Point (Great Short Walk #21)
A Great Short Walk, with a difference.
It's a boat ride in on the Ida St Clair water taxi, to the official start of the walk at Echo Point Hut, located on beautiful Lake St Clair. Then we camped the night on the beach, just because we could. Followed by the actual day walk out on Day 2 back to Cynthia Bay, along the shoreline of Lake St Clair.
As we enjoyed Echo Point that so much, that we came back for another crack at it many months later, but via a Kayak overnight trip.
It's absolutely beautiful part of Tassie & Cradle Mountain National Park.

After a long break from any walks, a day walk was in order up at Cradle Mountain. This hike sees me taking on Lake Wilks Track located at the back of Dove Lake. Followed by Face Track across to Kitchen Hut. Then down to the beautiful Suttons Tarn. A nice easy day walk to get back in to the swing of things. On our 2017 Overland Track attempt, after incurring an injury, we were rescued by the Tas...
Wombat on Face Track Cradle Mountain
Просмотров 400Год назад
On a warm sunny afternoon, as I was walking across Face Track at Cradle Mountain, I came upon this little wombat. I kept my distance several metres behind, as we both walked practically the entire length of Face Track from west to east. The little guy had no concerns with me being behind him, with ample opportunity to disappear into the bush, but he/she just kept on walking along the track with...
Mount Pillinger

First hike to start off 2022, and a day walk to Mount Pillinger was in order. On an absolute scorching hot day, the views that were on offer we too hard to resist. And what a cracking day hike this is. 360 degree views of some of the biggest peaks in Tassie. It's a really enjoyable hike. Looks like the authorities have decided to try and close off one of the tracks that leads off the Arm River ...

Here is a sneak peek preview of our upcoming Overland Track / Waterfall Valley Hut - Volunteer Caretaker series of videos. For 8 days in February 2021, we volunteered as Hut Caretakers. And what an experience it was. We are looking forward to bringing you our full 8 day experience. Keep an eye out for it in the near future ! On our 2017 Overland Track attempt, after incurring an injury, we were...
Cradle Boardwalk & Dove Lake
Просмотров 5813 года назад
With snow forecast down to 100 metres, this will surely be the last big snow dump for the 2021 year and it delivered in spades. Cradle Mountain was covered in thick snow, so perfect time for a day walk along the Boardwalk up to Dove Lake. With challenging weather and driving conditions, I basically had all of the Park to myself. With iconic views of the boatshed on offer, it was a solid 17.5km ...
Overland Track 2020 - Part 4
Просмотров 5583 года назад
Looking to get something out of our planned Overland Track week of hiking, we headed back in via the Lake St Clair end of the OT track, to Pine Valley for a couple nights. A first time in to Pine Valley for us, this was a very pretty walk in following the river in. And capped an enjoyable, yet frustrating, week of on again and off again hiking. On our 2017 Overland Track attempt, after incurrin...
Overland Track 2020 - Part 3 of 4

After turning back on day 1 of our 2020 Overland Track hike due to poor weather, we came back a couple days later and tried to head back in via the Arm River Track. This would have seen us get into New Pelion Hut on the day we were due to arrive at New Pelion, had we continued with our original OT plans. But we could only get so far before again turning back. This time around, the efforts of th...
Cradle Mountain - Kitchen Hut & Dove Lake Day Walk
Просмотров 4643 года назад
A day off work ? I figured I'd use it to my advantage and go for an easy day walk up at Cradle Mountain. Starting at Ronny Creek, heading up the Overland Track to Crater Lake. Then up the chains to Marions Lookout and across the Circ for lunch at a cold, wet & windy Kitchen Hut. Before heading back down Link Track to do a partial lap of Dove Lake. With wild winds up on the Circ, it was quite a ...
Overland Track 2020 - Part 2 of 4

Our 2020 Overland Track hike did eventually get underway, 10 months later than planned. Having been cancelled in March 2020 by the Covid-19 Virus, the wilderness was back up and running in December 2020. But we were greeted with pretty terrible weather conditions. With the knowledge that a big weather front was incoming, we still elected to head off and see how far we could get. Expecting to be...

For our 2020 Overland Track hike, here is our initial and usual, Overland Track pre-amble and equipment look-and-see. There were some changes to my equipment recently which have helped reduce my pack weight slightly. Though our yearly Overland Track hike just so happened to co-incide with the outbreak of Covid-19 in March 2020. We were watching with increasing concerns as the world shut down, a...
Waldheim Cabins, Cradle Mountain

If you're a hiker about to start the Overland Track, then the Waldheim Cabins are for you. Positioned right at the start of the OT trail head, these are perfect. Small, simple & basic little cabins. But warm and cosy. Nestled discretely in the bush, it's a beautiful setting. On our 2017 Overland Track attempt, after incurring an injury, we were rescued by the Tasmanian Westpac Rescue Helicopter...

For the 2021 return of the V8 Supercars back to Tasmania, we decided to give the "Park N View" entry a go. This is where you can drive your car up to the edge of the race track, along the back straight and hairpin section of the Symmons Plains race track. You get the comfort of lazing in the back of your car while watching all the action. Here is what it was like for us, as first timers bringin...

Carr Villa to Legges Tor, Ben Lomond

To start the year of 2021 off in a good way, a day walk was in order. From Carr Villa up to Legges Tor summit, in Ben Lomond National Park. It's a really great half day walk, at only 9 km's in total, but some pretty spectacular scenery up on the plateau. On the summit, you are the 2nd highest person in Tasmania ( behind anyone on top of Mt Ossa ). On our 2017 Overland Track attempt, after incur...

Overland Track 2019 - Equipment Review
Great video, showing what we thought was the best spot on the OLT. We had the place to ourselves when we first did the Track way back in 2017. We were surprised that most walkers took the ferry out and missed the jewel of the OLT. Good to see a different view from the canoes. 👍 Still so much stunning scenery there.
@warwickpeople5140 I think that's why it's one of the best sections of the OT - less travelled by most. So perhaps less spoilt. A Tassie gem. Thanks for watching.
Great video guys. it’s good to see you guys back.
@jjexplore9678, yeah, it's been a while between drinks, eh? Thanks for watching 👍
do they work with long distance hiking for around 5 days with about 30lbs in the pack?
@RaiderDefenseGroup yes absolutely. I've done plenty of 5-8 day hikes and they are comfy as. Mine are still going strong after several years, and I highly recommend them.
Thanks man! havent got an answear for a while so thanks i really appreciate it!@@two_in_tasmania
They're perfect for this kind of expedition. 😊
Hi there how are you 2 doing? Just curious if you are booked in again for the upcoming season?
Nah, I haven't booked. I did look at available spots last week out of interest, but will probably give it a miss this season. Work ... life ... you know how it is.
🤣🤣🤣 So cute so cute, thank you for uploading this video!
Hi there, would like to ask if you get any phone reception in the cabin?
At the time, I did not have any reception. But I'm with Optus, so it's not the best coverage from them to start with. Might be different now ... maybe ...
You lost me at 9:05 but cool video
Yep Steve, my videos do tend to go on and on ... and on ... 🤭 Different from the 2 minute crowd. But thanks for watching 👍
Great to see you back. I might put this one on our list for our next Tassie trip in September
Yeah, it's well worth a look Anthony. 👍
Another great video to somewhere we haven’t been. As for the downward parts, we find walking poles make such a difference. Keep the videos coming.
WP, yeah, I normally hike with poles as well. But figured it was just a short day walk, so left them in my pack this time. Thanks for watching 👍
He was your guide for the day mate lol! And pretty dedicated as well, just wait a tick and I'll recon the surrounds but I'll be back just hang on a sec lol.
Yeah I reckon Stu. Nothing fazed this little guy, just cruising along.
Fantastic walk. We were up there a few weeks ago doing the same loop. We had rain instead of wombats 🤣. It made the downhill parts very slippery.
WP, yeah I had a cracker of a day. One of those few and far between days up at Cradle. Rainy days are still good though, you get different vibes and views to what I had.
Wow, that's an amazing experience to put in the memory bank! I gotta get down to cradle mountain at some point.
Swatius1, if you haven't been, absolutely get there if you can. The views, and wombats, are something else. Thanks for watching.
Wow so it’s cute
It's hard to resist these little guys, but you have to keep your distance. No touching. Cutest animal in Tassie I reckon.
We have really enjoyed your footage , Thank You Very Much ..
Glad you enjoyed it
Seems easier on camera than in reality
Yep, Marions Lookout gets the lungs pumping no matter which track you take to get up. 👍
Cool! I’m going there rn and I’m so excited. ❤
Hope you enjoy it!👍
Thank you for a great tour of Franklin House. ❤
"a bit how's your father" classic 🙂 Great video, thanks for sharing. Tassie has amazing gems around every corner. Subscribed and looking forward to checking out some more and hope you're still out on the trail.
Thanks for watching O&A. Yeah, we are still out & about, just a bit behind with the video uploads. Life gets in the way sometimes ...
@@two_in_tasmania 🙂
Hi mate. ✌ I'm looking at getting these boots. How have they fared 5 years on?
dhingus6699, my Scarpa's have held up really well. Tassie environment has thrown everything at them and externally I have no issues or leaks. Internally the lining is getting a bit worn around the ankle area, but for the age still is good shape.
Awesome Good to hear. Yea I ended up getting a pair. And am in the process of breaking them in. The only thing that I've found so far is that on wet surfaces they slip too much for comfort. Wearing a pack this could be a real issue, on a wet log or something. Losing your footing under load could be nasty.
I've got a pair of these and the midsole is disintegrating.....
Mali, yeah the internal lining is starting to wear a little in mine as well. but nothing drastic. Still in good shape externally as well.
cheap pu midsole rots inw water get altbergs use eva midsole
hey mate love you videos thanks , are you heading out for mid march 23
Simon, nope. I haven't applied for an OT pass this year. Though I'm still looking to volunteer again ( future video coming of OT Volunteer we did last year ).
Thanks for the review and comparison. You can twist the mouth piece by 90 degrees to close it and prevent from leaking when you don't use it. Though I've never had any leaks anyway with it set to open.
What an interesting shaped mountain. But an amazing view from the top! Thanks so much for sharing it. The only mountains I've seen the top of are Mount Wellington (drove there) and Mount William in the North-East, which was about a ten-minute walk. When we got to the top, my dad declared "This isn't a mountain, it's a pimple!"
Yeah if you pick your day correctly, the views are amazing from the top of this one.
May I ask what you two do for a crust?
CJ, I'm in I.T. Which was the main reason we were able to move interstate - I was able to bring my job with me.
So you when back via the way you came up?
Yeah, we did. From Trappers Hut there is only one track back to the start of the hike. But above Trappers Hut there are a couple different routes to take. We just went in and came back on the same track - the main track.
That hike up to Trappers hut is a bit of a killer, not sure which is worse that or getting to Marions lookout?
Yeah, they both get the blood pumping, eh ? You are rewarded for the efforts though ...
Thanks for the videos. I did the overland track with my then partner in January 2003 and plan to do again in December/January 2023 or 2024
Yeah, cool. That's something to look forward to. By that time, there will be a new big hut at Windemere and maybe even Kia Ora. Both of these are under construction now, so the whole track will have big comfy huts. I've just come back from the OT again and did the full walk, so consider walking out the final day rather than the ferry. Such a beautiful walk along the lake's edge. Thanks for watching.
That is one my weekend hikes that I am planning to do in January 2023. Along with the Overland Track December 2023
Definately worth a look. It's a steep pinch to get up about 15 mins into the walk, but once up on the top of the zig-zags, it's such a beautiful walk.
Omg it looks so beautiful. What.time of year was this. I've just come back from tassie and we had 26 degree days. It was crazy warm. I definitely wanna come back.and see some snow.
2Cray, this was in the middle of August after a real cold snap. Super, super cold. But such a beautiful place, especially when it's snowing.
Hello! Love this video. My hubby and I will be at cradle mountain next Monday 14th. You mentioned there are a number of ways to get to the summit. At this time of year which track do you recommend? (We will definitely be wearing shoes 🤣)Thanks!
Hi Maria, there are so many options, and all provide you with special views. This time of year brings no concern regardless of the track you take. As it's been very dry and warm of late. Go up one track and come down on another. Hope you enjoy your walk.
I've seen a few of your videos now. Well done. I have a quick question. Which hike is easiest and quickest, Hanson's Peak or Marion's lookout? If you start from near Dove Lake Boatshed
That depends on the destination Mannie. Marions is probably slightly easier as the chain section is 3 short easy parts. Hanson's chains are a lot longer and steeper requiring more pulling yourself up. But probably less people up Hansons, as most day trippers go up for their short dash to Marions and back.
@@two_in_tasmania destination is return back to the carpark near Dove Lake boatshed. So it looks like it's Marion's Lookout for me. The view from Hanson's peak looks a little more spectacular to me.
I remember watching your video mate haha very lucky take care now and all the best for 2022 and the next hikes....support locals and subscribe it's free 👍😉🍺
Hey guys. I’m in Canberra thinking of taking all my belongings (easily a small truck load), my car and my dog. Do you have any hot tips/ costs to consider? (Like how much for example). That could be a deciding factor for me. Thanks in advance.
Gremlin, our best tip would be to downsize as much as you can. Removalists charge a.l.o.t., so the less you need to shift the cheaper it will be. And be very specific with the removalists - make them aware of everything that needs to be taken with a detailed list so they are aware, as they'll try to gouge more money out of you if you have large or odd sized items ( for us it was our kayaks - even though we mentioned it previously to them, so get it in writing ). If you cant fit everything in to you own car, there is no escaping the fact it will be a hassle and stressful. But accept that, and all the effort will be worth it once the move is done. So worth it. Good luck.
Hi folks, enjoyed the 4 episodes. I guess the advantage of being locals u can at least shuffle things around to suit the conditions. Cheers
Yep, we sure can Colin. Things would be very different if we had to travel interstate to do the OT, so we consider ourselves very lucky. Thanks for watching.
Your wife is beautiful. Lucky you.
Love it
Have you considered investing in a video stabilizer?
Yeah, I sure have Nutrino75. Looking to upgrade my Gopro to the latest model as soon as I can :)
😅 Had to smile when you said the lake near Pillinger would be a cracking spot in Summer.
Amazingly, a friend of ours did her knee at almost the same spot (frog flats) during our winter hike in 2012. We had to carry her all the way to New Pelion, well into the night before she took the same chopper ride to Hobart the next day. We had to climb Pelion East for phone reception that morning. I slept well that night.. 😵
@geoffson2wheels , wow. Frog Flats packs a punch eh? We met a guy at New Pelion who did his ankle at Frog Flats and was airlifted out as well. That was 2 years to the day of our mis-adventure. Thanks for watching.
Loving these! Arm River track was certainly a lot more challenging then I expected also. Looking forward to seeing what you get up to in part 4 ☺️
Yeah Amy, we'll get back to Arm River and complete it. Such a beautiful walk - even just as far as Mt Pillinger where we were got up to. Part 4 is coming :) Thanks for watching.
I prefer the Back Country packs as I don't have to carry any pots etc and you can eat it out of the packet and don't have to worry about washing up. 12 meals 2 metal cups and a spoon was all that was needed.
Terry, you must have a better stomach than me. Perhaps I've just been using them for a little too long, as they have become unpalatable to me now. But yeah, they are so convenient. Thanks for watching.
there is a flat spot about 1.5km past that Lake (Lake Price) where you can pitch a tent... (and you're only about 1.5km - bushbashing - from Basil Steers Hut No 3)
Great tip Richard. Thank you. We'll keep that in mind next time around on this track. And I love those sneeky little huts that are 'out there' for discovery.
I did the Arm River in April - barely any water compared to your trip!!! (We could leap over the creek at the carpark/trail head)
Richard, we have been to the trail head many times and it has so many different faces. We've seen it with water much higher than our crossing day, and other times with nothing at all. Pot luck I guess and time of year. Thanks for watching.
@@two_in_tasmania I'll be there next Friday :) hoping the water level isn't too bad!
Hey just wondering if you guys have ever considered doing the Overland Track from south to north for something a little different My friends have done it that way
Definately Karen. One day we'll do it in that direction. I'd love to do it in the snow as well to get the views from the opposite angle. Thanks for watching.
Climbed it yesterday but only got to the down and up section that had deep snow. Watched people fall through up to their armpits. Not knowing what was underneath, I decided to not go any further. After watching this video, I probably would have kept going. I was thinking based on the rest of the accent , I assumed that there was 10 feet deep crevices. So upset with myself.
Coffee, that top section ( particularly on the east side ) can have deep drop off's, so that was probably a good call in my eyes. That would have been pretty spectacular though in the snow. Thanks for watching.
Fantastic vid. Very interesting thanks. I must have missed your pack weights... what were they in kgs when you first started I.e. heaviest? Cheers
@DaveDiesel, around 21kg'ish for me and maybe a touch more for the misses. Thanks for watching 👍
looks bloody miserable dav. legend hiker!
Nah, not miserable at all. Fantastic to get out there and get absolutely battered by Mother Nature. Couldn't show the worst of it when it started turning ugly. Good for the experience bank.
Wow that's certainly wild weather Dave but glad to see you still loving it! It's really good for us to see the walks around Cradle in all types of weather. Total commitment on your part, well done! Sad to say our month long Tassie road trip had to be cancelled again due to border restrictions for a 2nd year in a row but hopefully we'll make it there next year! Take care and keep on sharing your vlogs, we're really enjoying them. 😊
Angie, that's a bummer for you guys, but Tassie is going nowehere. We'll be here when all the doom and gloom is over ! And with a slightly reduced number of footprints, we might even be in better shape for your return. Thanks for watching.
I remember when me and most of my family and friends accidentally took a 3 hour hike at Cradle Mountain. My legs were sore! But it was worth it in the end. We saw lots of different animals. I don't remember what track it was but it went on forever. 10/10 experience though. Would totally do it again.
Yeah, Cradle is that kind of place, isn't it ? Is is so easy to lose track time of time in such a magical environment. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the tour!
