    • @miuramike8310
      @miuramike8310 9 лет назад

      +Matheus Tex This was filmed on the Stelvio Pass in northern Italy, close to the Swiss border. The are 48 hairpin turns on the eastern side, it's summit is 2,757 m, or 9,045 feet. When I went there as a 13 year old it was so stunning & exciting to ride up it in my uncle's 1973 BMW 3.0 csi, he lived in Lugano, Switzerland and my summer vacations usually involved getting driven around by him at speeds that would land you in jail in the US, which is where I'm from. Going on the German autobahn was always incredible, but nothing compares to the Stelvio Pass. No, I never saw a Lamborghini Miura on it, but we did race a Maserati Bora some of the way. This road is so narrow, it looks like it must be one-way, so it's pretty scary when another car comes flying around a corner at you and doesn't slow down. There wasn't much traffic when I went, but several times we did have to back up or pull off the road to let another car or bus or truck pass. There are also plenty of places where there are no barriers to keep you from going over the edge, so it's no surprise that this is also considered one the most dangerous roads in the world. If you are hungry when you reach the top, or have vomited on the way up, there is a restaurant with incredible food (this is Italy after all!) and views that are hard to top. I'd love to do it again, but next time I will rent a motorcycle so the narrowness of the road won't be an issue. Every summer it's closed to cars for one day for a bicycle race. There's no way I would pedal up it, but going down would be a thrill. Maybe I should wear a parachute incase I go off a cliff?

    The Miura in this scene was driven by F1 driver Jean Pierre Beltoise. (L'Equipe Remy Julienne did the rest). The car was brand new, and about to be delivered to its new owner. So the team borrowed it, and returned it in perfect condition (albeit with a few extra miles, which wouldn't show as you can see the speedo is not working!) The car thrown off the cliff was an engineless wreck bought for a few pounds. It had actually been in a fatal accident in which its driver, an arab prince, had died.

    • @henglongtanks1
      @henglongtanks1 9 лет назад

      Very interesting! So the film producers patched it up for the film (after the accident you mentioned)?

    • @tonystower
      @tonystower 9 лет назад

      JPB UploadsUK Hi. The car seen driving throughout the intro was never damaged. It was brand new and still had factory/delivery "Prova" number plates on it. The film makers surreptitiously borrowed it, (and returned it pretty quickly!). If you look carefully, as the car disappears around the curve of the tunnel, the "explosion" is a flash charge set off next to it as it passes. The car then shown hitched up on the blade of the bulldozer is a scrapper bought directly from Lamborghini, having been in a fatal crash. Weirdly, when the crew went back the next day to "tidy up" all the wreckage down the mountainside from when it was tipped over, somebody had been there in the night, because not a scrap of it was found!

    • @tonystower
      @tonystower 9 лет назад

      Tony Towers Incidentally, not only did the Miura survive, Charlie Croker's Aston is still around, in perfect condition, and so is the red E Type, which belongs to Philip Porter, Chairman of the E Type Owners Club, and it is often seen at classic car shows, still with its 848 CRY number plate.

    • @tonystower
      @tonystower 9 лет назад

      I talk to the owners and club members at various shows. David Salamone, whose family business supplied pretty well all the cars (except the Miura) is a very affable guy. Philip Porter is a wonderful source of information for all things E Type and Italian Job. And, best of all, Tara Collinson, Son of Peter Collinson. A wonderful guy.

    • @tonystower
      @tonystower 9 лет назад

      ..... And as we now know. the Miura from the opening scene is currently for sale. I England. It'll probably be sold for a couple of million. Which means I'd need another one -and -a -half million. However, I'm told "you should never meet your heroes", So perhaps its for the best.....
