I love those lemon cypress. Any idea how cold tolerant they are and might they be evergreen in certain zones
Yes, they are evergreen in zone 7 and up.... You should get one!!
I didn’t even know target sells live plants, I just ordered 5 kinds of hydrangeas 😮 I wanted to be like a hydrangea lady like you!😅
Awesome!!!
that's what I do... works for us!
I ordered some Hydrangea varieties this year that I have admired from your wonderful videos. Your yard is absolutely beautiful and I have learned alot from you. Thankyou so much. You enjoy this summer.
That is so good to hear! Which ones did you order? I love you cat in your profile picture!!
How funny that you found that elusive hydrangea variety at Target! The flower coloration will be so striking.
Thank you!
What zone are you in? Just wondering if that makes any difference in cutting them back. I’m in the Deep South and appreciate your video, a friend gave me several daylilies and I really enjoy them. I’m going to trim mine after seeing how nice yours look.
I'm in 6b. Do you get a lot of daylilies that have time to rebloom?
Two things: I see you reaching in where you cannot see well. This is risky in my state in the US. Venomous snakes, and worse, their babies with super strong venom, can hide in these places. And I just wanted to say I had cut my daylillies back and you're right. Bad plan. Juiceu goo from the leaves gave me memorable Contact Dermatis ( like poison ivy, but worse!) I will never forget!
Oh my! Fortunately no venomous snakes here. I haven't even seen a garter snake around here!
Mrmaple👎🏻👎🏻
My daylilies don't bloom much if at all. My main work with them is to pull off dried leaves and tidy up.
Do your sunpatiens in the ground(seen in this video) get afternoon shade? how often would you say you have had to water them? Do certain spots flower better with these plants? Thankyou very much!
Really now! Those lemon sedums are a knockout! Love them as edging!
Thanks! I hope they come back, but I'll plant them again if I need to!
Nice! I’m going to check all my creeping jenny for roots and I really like the eclipse hydrangea!
Even if they don't have roots, just trim them off and stick them in some dirt and they will root! 🙂
Yes, I can see how that is the spot for urns where the mulch and lawn meet. Wow, commenting now because I could see how awesome that looks. Very nice! Those lemon cypress are so lovely! They can look beautiful for winter too!
Thank you! Yes, I'll be on the look out for more lemon cypress....They are so bright!
I absolutely love the new urns.
Thank you so much! It does just make we want to add more and more planters everywhere!!
I’ve done this two different ways sometimes I just cut them down with the Weedwhacker and they come back next spring sometimes I just let them win over which usually seems to work the best for me because I’m noticed if I let them winter over without cutting them back at all, I get more flowers the next year
I am planning to cut mine back by hand this coming weekend. I just have such a problem with leaf miners and thrips if I leave any foliage around. So glad you are able to, though!
I have a huge old nikko blue covered with blooms and sprawling on the ground. What good are a lot of blooms in years when the buds haven’t been killed if it’s just going to be a big mess. That bush so soured me on macrophylla that I’ve planted only panicles lately, but this year of course I’ve just got a yen for some well behaved blues. Thank you for showing me so many options in a real garden.
I have a pot with Lillie’s. Now I have to many in the pot and they did not bloom. Can I replant them?
I'm glad I'm not the only one who sometimes has gardening "oops!" moments. I'll be watching to see how well the split heuchera recovers. Once again, I love your choice of colors. 🙂
I love the pink colors!
All these are tough decisions and judgment calls. A lot of authorities now are telling us to leave all that messy junk in the garden as shelter for native insects such as fireflies. And clearing the prostrate foliage off the soil surface also opens the way to new weeds.
Full ad beautiful right away but still with a little room to grow--that's how I like to plant everything. 😄
Mr. Maple has a great selection for a Japanese garden! I keep thinking of where I could fit in more little Japanese maples and conifers that might do well in my climate.
That sweet potato vine is certainly the star of your deck pots, though that tree fern is stellar! I'm a long-time fan of variegated Swedish Ivy. I hope it can hold its own against that sweet potato vine.
Love the ease of switching seasons!
Thanks for the updates!
I don't think I can rely on hydrangeas as freely here in North Texas zone 8b, since we are hotter and drier, but I have planted have 3 Fire Light Tidbit hydrangeas and two Ruby Slippers Dwarf Oakleaf hydrangeas and am hoping for the best. 🤞
If anyone has a Costco nearby, they generally carry good-sized bags of worm castings inexpensively every spring.
I'm wondering about your experience with the Bold Approval daylily. You did an unboxing with it last year and I got one this year. I was so excited for the bright color and diamond dusting but mine strangely didn't survive and I was refunded. I'm sad so I was hoping you had better luck.
Hi! My 'Bold Approval' is alive, but didn't bloom. I'm not sure if I should leave it for another year or move it... It only came back with the two original fans, so it is looking kind of scrawny! I really wanted to see it, too!
What a beautiful area your side garden has turned into. Day lilies are awesome I don’t really have the space for that kind of display but enjoy seeing yours. I love how easy creeping Jenny is to propagate and adds so much to the look of the pots
Thank you!
Gorgeous spring color, so welcome after winter!
I'm looking forward to seeing how your Japanese garden develops. All the plant selections there are so interesting.
It has been so much fun learning about them!
I'm watching all your videos using this method. I need to try this in North Texas to keep things fresh in our blistering summers!
I have no clue about the differences in the Next Generation, but I enjoy seeing what you do with your bag in a pot in a pot method! Why don't more people do this?
The Knockouts can live in sunny containers if they are large enough to allow for the eventual 3' size of the rose. That color is so beautiful!
Thanks!
Thanks! This is brilliant!
Your plantings are so lovely!
Do you have the name of the big yellow and buff daylily? I have that one but don't know the name? The tall ones.. Do you have one named Valley Monster?
That is Valley Monster 🙂
@@TheGardenMouse I bought mine years ago but the tag had been lost. My mom and I called it Donna James cause we bought it from her. Ever since I have been on a quest to find it and learn the real name!!! Thank you soooo much!
@@nancyyoungs933 You're welcome!
As long as there is no pesticide spray you can eat the beautiful leaves of day lillie's. Each color has a different flavor !!!
I have never heard this....Have you tried it?
Never heard of eating the leaves! Lily buds, including daylily buds, are a longstanding part of Chinese cuisine, used in stirfries, batter fried, etc. They are quite palatable raw. But who would want to waste those beautiful flowers for a small addition to a stirfry or salad??
I am a beginner and love the railing planters; however, no one has explained to me the different "layers" or "stairs" as I call it inside. My first one was 27 inch long and I planted 3 lantana plants that I bought from the nursery on the top flat step. That's it. After watching your video, I bet the side lower channels are for "trailing" flowers like petunias?? I didn't know what I was doing. Can you explain the different levels and how you determine how many plants you put in each? I'm also in New England, zone 6b, so I'm happy to finally find someone in the same area. Thank you in advance
I love the new urns that you have chosen for both sides of your shaded front entrance. The size of the urns is perfect, since you have the larger urns out front. I love your entire finished look. Enjoy it!
Thank you!!
So beautiful
You are so inspiring. Your videos have really helped me. I just uploaded a little short of my garden if you’d like to see it ❤
You planted the urns nicely but I find they are far too small in proportion to the door. They would look more substantial atop a box with both box and urn painted the same colour to appear as one large piece. That’s my take but of course it’s your door/entrance. It looks like a lovely home and property.
Yes...Bigger urns down the road. 🙂
I always feel like more of a gardener when I divide plants! It’s so rewarding knowing it had to be done and you should wind up with an extra!
I have seen the Coast of Maine soil at my garden center and I like Bumper Crop. I don’t think I would turn my back on Miracle Grow though,
I have seen the Coast of Maine soil at my garden center and I like Bumper Crop. I don’t think I would turn my back on Miracle Grow though.
My gosh, that is gorgeous, nice and full with color.
What state and zone are you gardening?
I'm in Rhode Island. We were just moved to zone 7a, but I don't know if I really believe that, so I'm still telling myself I'm in zone 6b. 🙂
Oh that looks so much neater, I need to do the same thing. Thank you for the idea! 😊
It really does help. I find the daylilies are so hardy that they really don't mind the hard cutback, and I like how it looks so much more!!
Beautiful garden and blooms ❤ we’ve been getting so much rain. My daylilies are getting washed out. Though the rain is really good for the tomatoes.😅
Yes, the daylilies dn't look their best in the rain!
Beautiful, Thankyou for sharing.
Wow! So many pretty daylillies! Thanks for taking us along on this tour. Thanks also for the tip about Blue Ridge Daylillies. I’ll be checking on that end of season special.
I love hydrangeas too!!❤
