Super happy with the way this little fella turned out. I was fairly certain that underneath all the oil, dust and other muck was a really nice saw wanting to get out. Bullfrog carb was cleaned and rebuilt. Points set correctly. Tank flushed and fuel filter replaced and here’s the result. Another fine addition to my Mac collection.

A really tidy late model PM700 I’ve just got up and running after a very long break. New fuel line and tank gasket. Carby cleaned and kitted. Running again like Robert McCulloch intended. 🙂

A very cool 72cc geardrive running 1/2” pitch chain I acquired recently. This one was originally used for cutting timber sleepers on the railway of the Northern Territory in Australia. Another very cool ssw to add to my McCulloch collection.

This one was a bit of a mission. My customer was blatantly ripped off by the person he bought this saw from. It had a cheap knockoff piston & cylinder kit. Two fins broken off the flywheel. Most concerning was that the mtronic has basically been ripped off the existing carb. Wiring was all just left loose. It was then fitted with a knockoff 660 carb. Obviously with no mtronic. This series of stihl’s, the MS290, 310 & 390 are in my opinion far superior saws to the later 291, 311 & 391. More solid in construction and easier to work on. For a landowner grade saw they’re actually pretty good.

A very tidy little 034 on the bench for a service & tuneup. These are without doubt one of stihl’s all time best little saws. Teamed with an 18” bar and good chain they can do pretty much any firewood job.
A Stihl MS 462 that’s been run to destruction.

I have a 455 rancher, and my studs aren't accessible from the oil tank. I drained the tank, hoping to see the back of the studs, nope! I'm a little confused. It's like it's a plastic cover over it that can't be removed.

@@luebkeb it doesn’t show the rebuild. It shows the finished product. I’ve done other videos on the build procedure.

Hi from Oamaru south island New Zealand. My saw is rooted in the fuel primer pump as rubbers degraded. What are the options?. Would you have any idea of replacement parts?. Cheers Carl
G’day Carl. Only a couple of options for old diaphragms. Either soak in brake fluid or rub WD40 into them. That usually brings gs them back. 😊

I start off at 1 full turn out on both H & L screws. That’ll definitely start & run a decent saw.

Hi, did you need to replace the cover seal, or does it generally stay in one piece while removing the cover?
Sometimes the gasket will crack and you’ll have to replace it. I was lucky and managed to remove it in one piece.

You better hope that clutch don’t come off revving it up! It’s like playing Russian roulette. I did that once and a piece of clutch parted my hair. I was lucky I only got a few stitches. In my skull.
Really informative video, thanks. Just wondering if you have seen any problems with the injector on the 500i since you made this video 2 yrs ago, I am thinking particularly of ethanol-related deposits blocking the injector. I would appreciate any opinions you had on this. Thanks and happy new year.
The injectors themselves seem to be very reliable. Luckily I’ve not seen any that have been exposed to ethanol fuel. It’s certainly something that I advise against using.

Hy, where can I buy an original cylinder and piston? No longer manufactured. Or where I could find a kit similar in performance?
eBay has complete 262 XP kits. Make sure you buy a Metor piston. They're better than OEM pistons.
