A Brief History of Defending Your Faith
From the Biblical Theology Study Bible: The Roman Period A series of rulers in the Hasmonean dynasty, which Jonathan and Simon established, tried to consolidate Israel’s position in the succeeding decades. However, a new world power was taking its place on the historical scene: Rome. Greece had become a Roman province in 146 BC and Pergamum (in Asia Minor) in 136 BC. In 63 BC, Israel, considered part of the larger province of Syria, came under Roman rule. Herod the Great (in power 37-4 BC) was a “client king” of Rome, answerable to Roman authority. All of NT history takes place in the larger context of the Roman Empire. It was the Romans who invaded Israel in the years AD 66-73 to put down a Jewish revolt, destroying the temple in AD 70 and winning the final victory at the fortress of Masada in AD 73.

Hi~ Bristol is with me!
Does sin exist?
Absolutely! Sin is just a church word for the moral errors we make. It is when we disobey the laws of God. Those commands are written on our heart as well as enumerated in Scripture. They serve as a plumb line to show us when we stray or err.
Idk sis… most of Genesis seems pretty allegorical to me 🤷🏾♂️ Why would God make an Earth look millions of years old if its only thousands? Why does faith have to mean that we must take only one of the two creation accounts as historical account?
@@samueltaylor2757 One, it was created the same way man was. As a fully formed adult. There’s no evidence that the earth is or looks millions of years old. Radiometric dating is flawed in that it is only accurate to thousands to tens of thousands of years. They calculate based on an assumption they are trying to prove. It’s circular. Genesis is not written allegorically. There are certain styles of writing identifiable to the time as myth vs. poetry vs. narrative. Both of the Biblical creation accounts are true as one zooms in on the creation of man on day six. I really hope you keep watching and dig deep to find the answers! You don’t have to agree with me at all! I can certainly recommend more resources if you would like to dig deeper!
@@GracefulAnswers i get what you mean with the whole idea that God made adam an adult so why not the earth. I hadn’t thought of it that way. Are you still active? It looks like your last video was 6 months ago The reason I lean towards it being at least part myth/allegory is just how similar it is to non jewish creation stories. I think that God can weave his story through myth thats that made sense to the ancient people at the time. I think we get ourselves into a bit of a sticky mess when we try and apply modern day desire for historical and scientific accuracy on an ancient religious text. How do you know that the categories that we put in the text are binary in the sense that everything written in a narrative is claiming to be literal? While radiometric dating has its accuracy limits beyond 50,000 years, we don’t have any good reason to believe that life starts at the limit of radiometric dating. We have no good evidence to assume that isotope half lives become unpredictable to the point that we can say the science leads us to believe young earth creation. We can also observe and study the creation of other solar systems from earth. I’m not saying young earth creation is impossible, but rather it looks unlikely. You say that I don’t have to agree with you, but it doesn’t feel true. it feels very lonely being a Christian that thinks the way I do
You look beautiful, inside and out
Miss ya lady, hope the gamily is doing well!!
Ephraim and Manasseh were elevated to sons. The physical birthright of national greatness was given to them. You can check and see that the greatest single nation and the greatest company of nations sprang from Joseph.
So fascinating seeing these things play out over time as we read through Scripture, right?
Do you know Ken's Guide to the Bible? it is just the best
I’ll check it out! thanks!
Would you please share your weight loss journey, i.e. ozempic if any, menu planning, exercise if any, etc.? Thanks so much.
Mary if you email me I’d be happy to chat with you privately about it! Thanks for noticing! 😉 gracefulanswersministries@gmail.com
I missed the live. Sorry. Not feeling well tonight. The arthritis and chronic pain acting up. Watching now. You do such a great job explaining the Bible. This is my favorite channel. Keep it up! God Bless!
You are so sweet! I’m so sorry you’re not feeling well! Prayers!!
When fear knocks, faith walks.
Ooh I like that!
Ishmael was Abraham's first born son. What happened to his 12 sons.
They separated from the family early on- Abraham sent them away at God’s command and he set up his own family line.
Doggo ❤ thanks Jill! Sorry what is Daisy's instagram?
Hey Jill! Thanks for the video! ❤
Thanks for watching!
I love how you suggested to do one chapter at a time to understand the context better. That makes more sense to me than just doing it Willy nilly (like I was doing!)
I’m so glad!! There’s value in doing both! The fast version gives you great overview, seeing how it all pulls together as one unified text. Slowly gives the context to understand the valuable lessons each section is meant to share. Both are important!
Hi Jill. Missed this live. Life is crazy. I grew up in Florida. Love the beach. I live in GA now. I miss the beach. And you can call me Sherry lol. Or Lynn. Whichever is easier to remember. ❤
Georgia is gorgeous with the mountains! Glad you’re here watching! ❤️
I'm so grateful for this study. I know it is a bijou little group but you do such a great job and the pace is so great for me. Everyone seems to love starting with Genesis on January 1st and hope to finish Revelation on December 31st. That's not realistic for a lot of people though. Where we go next when we finish Genesis... Exodus seems the logical step to me. Then maybe we could move to the prophets or Psalms ? I think my priority is to try to see Jesus in the scriptures as the first Christians did with the scriptures they had at the time.
That’s so sweet! So glad you’re here! I’m planning to jump to Matthew. Then back to Exodus, then Mark, then Leviticus, etc. I will lump smaller books together but that’s the general plan. That way we don’t get bogged down in one area. Going this in depth it works well to move back and forth. It’s a long term project, but time ticks on regardless, so why not do something while it goes? :)
@@GracefulAnswers Sounds good 👌 I have said before that I’m in the UK and can’t usually be up for the live streams because of the time difference, but I have been watching on replay every week. Love your work 😻
@@ChristinaBobina27 I so appreciate you watching!!
Not feeling well tonight so I missed your live. I’m catching up on the replay. ❤
I’m so sorry you’re not well! Prayers!!
Do you think a person needs both a Strong's Concordance AND a Thompson's Chain Reference Bible?
Probably not. I’d move on to a different reference material instead, like an atlas, commentary, etc.
Hey!!! It's great to see you up and feeling well again!!! ❤
Aw thanks!!
Please post a video of all of your Bibles and References.
Yes ma’am! Will do!
Would you post a video of all of your Bibles?
Sure thing! I’ll start working on it!
Would you do a video on all of your Bibles. Also share your testimony and any tips you have on how you are able to homeschool while also doing your online and Sunday school ministry. Thanks so much!
Love to! Good idea! I’ve been collecting for quite a while and would love to share what I like and don’t!
I can do a whole video on homeschooling, too! This is our sixth year!
Why do you not recommend Strong's Concordance?
I personally prefer to use a digital version. I have a topical Bible (same idea) that’s a little more user friendly. Nothing wrong with Strong’s! Handy tool!
Oh my goodness! How am I supposed to focus when you're dancing with the puppy!!!!😂
Honestly no idea how I get anything done with these pups around
Sorry I missed the stream. I was hanging out with friends.
No worries! Catch it any time!
Hey Jill👋🏾 just missed stream catching up on replay 💕💕
Glad to see ya!
Very helpful- thank you!
Glad you liked it! :)
So sorry I missed your livestream Bible study. I need prayers. Brother had a stroke and my brother-in-law had one a few days later. Crazy times. Watching replay.
I will absolutely be praying !! I’m so sorry!
Thanks for the shoutout at the 1:19 mark. 😊
Any time!
Another great lesson!!
You’re so sweet!
Jill the 40s are the BEST decade!!!! Happy birthday!🎉
Looking forward to it!
I loved this lesson!!
🥰
I hope you had a wonderful birthday. I’m on the replay. I’m nor feeling well. But I love these Bible studies you have started. God Bless you and your family. ❤
I’m so sorry you’re sick! I hope you feel better soon! ❤️
Great job, Jill!
Aw thank you!! You’re so sweet!
Imagine being Esau, the one that your mother hates 😢
That would be brutal. The father was the big decision maker so being his favorite had perks.
I am so glad you point out Jacob’s blasphemy when bringing God into the ruse with Isaac. Anyone else get Big Bad Wolf vibes? Come closer, the better to feel your hairy hands, the better to smell your musk… 😂
I will never not think of Big Bad Wolf now!! lol
@@GracefulAnswers Glad to be of service 😂
Is it possible that the repetition of the sister/wife ruse was an Hebrew literary tool?
Good thinking! But Moses actually clarified that this was a separate occasion from Abraham’s. There are other differences, too. The way they are caught is different, there’s no agreement with Rebekah ahead of time, and we see the progression from a half-truth to a bold faced lie. Also, Isaac’s fear was less founded in that no one took Rebekah and God’s promise included to Isaac that God would be with him. That should have solved any remaining fear in his mind, but he lies anyway. But I do like that you’re thinking about repetition as a literary tool. When we talk about repetition in that sense, it’s a word or phrase that is repeated for emphasis.
@@GracefulAnswers I’m thinking the actual ruse being repeated is the literary tool that brings to mind the similarities and differences between father and son as well as the progression of the story of the people of Israel.
@@ChristinaBobina27 absolutely!!
I’m so glad you’re here, by the way!
Christianity is a money scheme. Salvation is an invisible product sold by your church & evangelical RUclipsrs like this.
I kinda believe that people get so angry about Christianity because the faith has often been used by tyrant governments to hurt certain groups of people and is still used today especially in the US by oportunists and con men to scam vulnerable people and there are Christian fascists in our own government who wish to make life harder for certain minority groups. There's also the fact that the church has failed to properly address and be held accountable for atrocities like the crusades and how some missionaries actually did more harm than good.
I can see that. Broken humans using God to hurt others has to be extra offensive to God and breaks my heart.
I love getting the history behind my faith and you threw in some verses. That's awesome hearing them in the historical context. I'm new here
