That must have been an enormous cow to get a skin that big... Like I'm imagining they bred dozens of generations of huge-ass cows just to get a skin this big, of good enough quality, to build a drum of this size. This drum was probably literally hundreds of years in the making...
The chirping Bird 🦅.. Awesome… I’m guessing they are used to it by now..& Maybe even deaf.. but still ..Is this the way they wake up each day?? Headaches I Pray nobody has… ♥️✝️💕🇺🇸

It's 2,6 Shaku, normaly in G, here ca 30 cent lower. And he's playing Hi Fu MI Cho the 1th piece of the Myoan Taizan Ryu Honkyoku. In all Koten Honkyoku (traditional repertory) there is no improvisation, every phrase is fixed, written down and memorised.
Tuning a drum with this diameter would have one of two bad outcomes. Either it would be... ...too low of a pitch (below 20Hz) so that a human would not hear its resonant frequency and therefore only hear muddy overtones, or ...too tight where the resonant frequency would be an above 20Hz audible pitch but "pinched" in timbre, causing far too many overtones, and therefore sounding like a muddled cacophony. Symphonic bass drums are limited in diameter for good reasons, two of which are resonant frequency issues listed above. Drums larger than symphonic bass drums are often intentionally inconsistently tightened about the circumference so that there's no dominating pitch and therefore a variety of bass pitches sounding all at once to create a deep, balanced brown noise (look up brown noise if you're not familiar with it). Furthermore it allows the percussionist to select different sounds by striking different regions of the drum head.

Wondering where they found a cowhide to cover the end of that thing!
My favorite drum and it's artist. Incredible!
See why I hate living in the United States.
Birds in the background: "damnit, he's making that racket again".
OMFG this is reason enough to love Japan
Jesus hit it already
they need to put this on a semi trailer and hual it through downtown with him playing
Two frames is all the camera could capture between the link of the drummer and his instrument. Incredible!

You're so right, this video can NEVER do honor to this instrument...one way to do that is to get one...but then I pity the neighbors 🤣

@@dovos8572 Yea, eh, way too expensive. I'll stick to the synth sound insead ;)
This is only video on YT worth to play while sail with ship. I've been searching about 1h for something like this ♡
that would be an intense workout ...
Nice sound. Would be better if you maintained the slow pace, hyperactive fast speed does not go with such heavy and deep sound.
If you heard in real life it sounds way better than just aimlessly hitting it
That's beautiful
Simmiliar as Mosque Drum

I love youtube for this.
Needs tuned.
listen with very good headphones and you clearly hear that this drum doesn't need any tuning!
Please consider watching this, I hope it helps ruclips.net/video/Koe2qEQUSZY/видео.html
Your brain needs to be tuned
